Growing up during those times was ABSOLUTE MAGIC , . Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure it wasn't all a FABULOUS DREAM " All You Need is Love "
I wonder if Paul would remember me. It was summer 1966 and the band lived in St Johns Wood (off Camden Town) where I lived with my baby. We met while taking my dog Dusty over Regents Park and he would take Martha his Old English Sheep dog who played chase together every day. Paul was seeing Jane Asher at that time. We used to sit under a big old oak tree and chat while the dogs played. He was very sociable and said he never believed Alan my baby was mine and that I was just a paid Nanny to him :-) I said your going out with Jane Asher and he replied, no I'm not her mother is teaching me to play the clarinet. "Ooops" OK I said and that was forgotten. I met all the band that used to march through Regents Park in line wearing long black trench coats. They were sunny happy days and fond memories. I'm a little younger than Paul. "TOPS" video BTW. Thank you.
To be alive in the 1960s was truly a huuge blessing.....Koufax....jerry West.....McCartney Is the Greatest of them all.....His catalogue of beatles an wings songs has no equal....his inspiration from heaven was and is never ending.....the heavens just keep filling his brain with song after song after song......the MOZART of our time....x 2 ! His legacy is sooo profound that no words are adequate
For those of us who lived these years with the Fabs this is pretty correct. John was always one to question or parody social cows. Paul was always careful with PR. George was always very deep. Ringo remains a guy everyone could get along with. Probably more fitting with the public image. I loved these four. They were bigger than any group before or since despite statistical comparisons. In the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.
Very interesting, I lived through all this. Spent three days with the Beatles while they filmed Magical Mystery Tour in 1967. I was in the street when they played on the roof of Apple Corp in Saville Row. I was at Earls Court when I bounced for Led Zeppelin, Wings came out of the Celebrity Box to say hello to Stuart George, who I was with and knew quite well, he was David Bowie's bodyguard and owned the security company that looked after the concerts. I printed his T shirts and he let me bounce at the gigs for fun. Happy days.
Paul was and is my favorite. His amazing skill in songwriting, producing and singing is tops. He formed Wings a terrific band. He has talent with many musical instruments. Also a talented book writer. There will never be another musician like Paul. He is a tops entertainer who gives it all. Still performing is amazing even though he is in his 80’s.
I saw Wings, Edinburgh ‘75, got a friend’s ticket by chance. Very impressed. Just because you’ve got a big name behind you from past work, getting renowned for stepping forward is a bigger deal, & frankly, Macca did it, because he lives music & he’s a professional in in his field. Well done, Macca, You are a composer par excellence- as Mozart, Bach, et al. You were my ‘Beatles Star’ from my age of 8 years - I’m 69 now and my sentiment about you hadn’t wained! Jane Russell
I really loved the Beatles as a musical endeavor and band. I loved all of their music and each of them as performing artists. My mom, younger sister Joy and I were fortunate to have seen two Beatles concerts in one day on September 3rd, 1964, now sixty years ago, at the Indiana State Fair. That was a thrilling event I can recall vividly. The second concert was recorded by a fellow concert goer. I dutifully followed the Beatles right up to the bitter end. I was sad they couldn't reconcile their growing numbers of sharp differences. But as many Beatles fans attempted to continue to follow all of them or at least one of them, there was still plenty of former Beatles' music for the listening. Thanks for detailing Paul's efforts. There were some works he'd created that were new to me. Good show!
I love all the Beatles. They must have gone through so much. Believe it or not, I really liked Linda. I thought she was great for Paul. I'm pretty sure that I may be right on that.
Post meeting Ono, Lennon went downhill personally and musically. Paul and George continued to write superb tunes, and Ringo to remain the nice guy he is. Everything on Earth has its day, but the Beatles' music lives on 😊 .
I have surus xm radio in my car. I haven't changed the station from the Beatles in three years. Best 3.00 a month I've ever spent. It's for five years too.
I have to agree with most of the comments here what a great documentary it came across as very knowledgeable and very personable and very down to earth and it just picked. Paul McCartney was definitely a genius at what he did. God bless him. I hope he lives many more years and God bless the.
PAUL HAS A GREAT MIND AND SOUL. HE JUST NATURALLY GRAVITATED TO CREATING SONGS WITH LOVE SPRINKLED THROUGHOUT. IT MADE HIS MUSIC SO MUCH FUN AND INSPIRING, YOU JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF HIS MUSICAL GENIUS! THE HEART WANTS WHAT IT WANTS! AND, WE REALLY DO WANT LOVE! AND, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT JESUS KEPT TELLING THE WORLD IN HIS PARABLES. LOVE IS WHAT MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND!
I agree with the previous comments. Paul was the leader of the band. John's voice was phenomenal. But I think his past led him to not trust others. But I know he loved Paul, George and Ringo. They were brothers from other mothers. George felt slighted for sure. He had his own songs he wanted to record but was denied. I think John was ready to leave because of Yoko. Which he left Cynthia for. That was a mistake. All I know is the early songs was pure gold. Long live the Beatles ❤
Having a band myself for 15 yrs. I can tell you its no picnic having 4 different personalities all getting along great! Not gonna happen.lol! It was bound to happen with or without Yoko.. but we still have their music!
This was happenstance for me sitting alone (as usual) watching the US Open tennis tournament with my iPhone tuned into You Tube Loved every minute. Nostalgic for sure bc my late husband and I became engaged the night of the Beatles appearance on Ed Sullivan show We were married in July 1964 so The Beatles were the musical history of our married lives
An amazingly super productive creative that also knew how to successfully maneuver in all those worlds in society that most musicians aren’t even aware exist
You know, its never mattered to me why the Beatles broke up. They had a good run and it was probably the best thing that could have happened. If you think about it, they had done it all in the 7 or so years they were together. The music on their final album Let it Be was a far cry from their first album Please Please Me. Everything in between those albums was a nice progression. Does anyone really think the Beatles would have remained significant throughout the 1970s if they stayed together? I don't think so. Music was changing and I'm not so sure they could have maintained the Fab Four persona. When I hear about band members that can't get along, I have to laugh. They are human like the rest of us. People get this idea in their heads that band members are always together 24/7 hanging out, partying, jamming and never going home. That's simply not true. They are all individuals with their own personalities, with families trying to get through life. It's like any other job, just because you work well together doesn't mean you like your coworkers. I detest everyone I work with and can't wait until I go home at night to get away from them. But we all work well together and get the job done. But then again, I am a grumpy old man who has worked there for 39 years. They are all young punks addicted to their cell phones
He announced it in a Q and A he did with himself in the inner sleeve of McCartney. It was worded as if he was leaving the band. That's why people thought it was him, he worded it that way in his own PR. They had asked John not to mention it because of the release of the upcoming Beatles album and so when Paul unilaterally announced it as if it was his own decision John was hurt.
Extremely interesting documentary of an all time legend. Hard to believe he is 82... with the vitality of people half his age... what a great guy, and what a huge contribution to the world.
I know right? I'm nowhere near his age and don't even have half the strength he does. Just when I think he is going to retire, he just keeps going. LOL.
I learned lots about Paul's post Beatle's music and his efforts to continue pushing his song and music writing boundaries.. It's hard to realize he's 80 or so now. I'm a little younger but I grew up with the Beatles from their fist magical records. Moments ago, I was really touched by the lyrics of "Baby I'm Amazed" as they were brought to my attention in this short documentary. I appreciated Linda so much more as a result of her appearances throughout this video. Paul is truly a treasure for what he has instilled in so many people's lives. I lovePaul like a brother, as I do John, George, and the great Ringo Starr.
The Beatles will always be the most successful band in Rock history . Even there solo work was great. Paul Mccartney and Ringo Starr are still touring in 2024. IORR.
I can remember when I was about 3, singing Yellow Submarine when it came on the radio mom kept on while she did her housework. That’s the year it came out.
Other than being a great music talent I always thought Paul looked 10 years younger than he was during the 70's and 80s which helped his popularity with younger fans who didn't remember the Beatles in the 60s.
The Beatles was John Lennon's band...anyone who knows anything about the Beatles knows this...on there album...the Beatles story they all say this...the first hits were all sung by John...there would be no Beatles without John...he is the greatest Beatle ...they are all great
Paul McCartney,a awesome singer and song writer, have been a fan since 1971,i remember the song hey Jude when I was 5.My brother 0:00 Barry Parsons played back then,he passed away,july19,2019,was63.💐🙏
I was barely a teen when Wings was hot and I had every 33rpm album, Band On The Run is still my favorite but McCartney kept making great music, years later in my 50's I finally got to see him live at Yankee Stadium compliments of my son. We saw him two more times after that at The Barclay Stadium in Brooklyn NY.
Paul got blamed for years because of the lawsuits & him not going along with the others with the crooked new manager. John was the first to want out, & as much as it's controversial, I do think Yoko contributed by getting so much control of John. Yoko getting him hooked on heroin most certainly contributed.
I grew up with the Beatles songs,Blackbird,Eleonor Rigby,Fool on the Hill,Here,There and Everywhere,Hey Jude and The Long and Winding Road are my favorites which I always sing n karaoke🙂❤❤
THESE GUYS WERE VERY DIFFERENT ALL WERE BRILLIANT WITH INTELLECT UNDERSTANDING OF LITERATURE /WORLD CULTURE/ HUMAN NATURE/ EXCELLENT TASTE/ AND THE UNDERSTANDING FOR NECESSITY OF VARIANCE OF STYLE. THIS GROUP NEVER WROTE AND PLAYED IN ANY WAY OTHER THAN EXCELLENT!
John AND his disastrous choice of Klein was the final straw. Lennon really wasn't very smart when it came to business. Lennon or one of the other Beatles admitted that Klein was a disaster!!
It’s a good documentary on these four “kids”, especially a young Sir Paul. It’s no one’s fault they broke up, it just happened. Sir Paul had the best voice and was as ready to perform as always. We will never know what John could have accomplished.
It's easy to blame a deceased member. All I have heard for many years is how difficult Paul was to work with. I heard he wanted too much control over everything including business and creative ideas. I just see live at 72 years old in a different perspective I guess. Sure John quit but that doesn't mean it was his fault since there was so much internal turmoil.
always difficult to compare the Beatles. Best band ever, i always preferred Paul to John just because he was my idea of a performer. John appeared folksy, George quiet yet super talented. Ringo such an accomplished drummer..like Elvis it was yesteryear. sadly gone
Awesome video! I learned a lot about the perseverance of the music and life of Paul McCartney, my favorite song is “let me roll it” he recorded with Wings
However it went down, I believe Paul was sad the Beatles broke up, that is, I believe he really wanted things to not change …. I’d love to tell Paul I believe him, I do
His talent for songwriting with Lennon and rock n roll performance along with great vocal ability were his strong suit. I never regarded his solo work worthy of my time to explore.
Paul is a one man band. So many timeless classics. I do have to disagree with Paul when it comes to the Beatles last big hit/masterpiece, The long and Winding road. He preferred an acoustic version but Phil Spector's take on the classic is the superior version. That orchestral background was a perfect touch.
After 44 years, Jhon still compeat with him. This men were the two greater musicans of all time. The TWO of them all. Of course Paul was much more prolific than Jhon. Even when he was alive. But the master pices from Jhon creation still in the same page. Or more.
Between yoko Ono and Allan Klein, John Lennon’s choice of people was incredibly skewed. His treatment of Cynthia, Julian and his allegiance to Ono and kleins destructiveness revealed a deeply flawed mind. Nevertheless he was an amazing talent and vocalist
Love them ALL, but mainly PAUL! Please let’s do our part ( to save the Planet ) by honoring Meatless Mondays ! Look how creative veggy foods can be ,in “Linda’s Family Kitchen “ Yummmy , just like Paul !
TUELY AND ACTUALY, THE NOTEN / CREDIT, D O E S BELONG TO PAUL! IT WAS PAUL'S IDEA, TO FORM A MUSICAL GROUP, AND LATER ON, CHNGED MEBERS AND OTHER DEVIRSIFICATIONS, UNTIL? UNTIL, THEYFINALY FORMED THE = Beatles = yes paul was the back bone of the Beatles! And John was insanely jealous of Paul, professionaly - musicaly - and of his tallent( s ) !! John elected himself, to be the band leader! Yet couldn't play on as many musical instruments, as does / did Paul! and intime, it all proved to be so! wings / Paul ( 1 ) - - John ? ? ? ( 0 )
I never liked the Beatles as an act or their music. I grew up dancing to Motown and the Beatles music for the most part had no danceable rhythm due to the fact that it was constantly changing time. That being said, Yesterday and Maybe I'm Amazed are truly great songs. I also have to admit I was totally shocked by the shear volume of the chart topping music he has produced since he began his solo career. Even if it's not my taste. Kudos to him.
🎸 = I'm not just sayig it, as I knew it? I knewit, all alonge etc?! I always did know it! Why? Because Johnny' linked, to Yoko! She wanted John, simply & strictly, just for herself! And John didn't notice, that she was actualy operating on him, extremely very much, the greedy way! Yes, it is true, Paul left the Beatles. But why did he leave them? Because, of various different, unbarable / unacceptable circumdtances! So Paul left? Did he prove himself to the public musicaly, as much? Johnny was not even a fraction of it! Not even a decimal of it, as Paul continued Paul, Yes, it was Paul! Yes Paul, he was actualy the back bone of the Beatles! = 🎹
Agree Paul held the Beatles together after the death of Brian Epstein. Paul assumed the role of the band leader and producer together with George Martin.
Billy . . he was the real reason that led to their eventual breakup . . Forensics doesn't lie for those interested. Billy had that slight shit-eating grin that Paul never had, while there had never previously been any kind of animosity with John or among the group of the original 4. Contractual obligations however were pressed upon them at their weakest moment when there was already someone who had been a stand-in for Paul after he won a Paul look-a-like contest and was a good musician -- though he never created the same style of introspective music that Paul was famous for. John and Paul who had worked so well together that they shared credit for all of their songs, never again were able to do so post 1966 and they did not get on well. Billy always believed he was a better than the others, and this contributed to the break-up. The interview of Paul or Faul as George liked to call him (faux Paul -- Faul) in a crowd of people shortly after John's death is particularly interesting, as he did not know that there was not only audio, but a camera also rolling, held by someone above the crowd nearby on a stairway. "Yeah, it's a drag isn't it?" he responded without hesitation when asked about John's murder, though he claimed to be distraught when asked about it during his appearance on Letterman. However, when he leaves that interview and goes skipping through the crowd with his head high and not a care in the world -- clearly, he had no concern at all. Even if they had a severe falling out somehow, their history of accomplishing so much together would have created a heavy emotional impact on Paul at John's recent unexpected murder. The fact that he had no real concern or condolences to offer makes no sense, unless we realize this is a different individual, someone who never got along well with John or as an integral member of the group. The Italian forensics group that set out to prove the rumors false based upon photographic evidence, came to the conclusion that they were looking at two different individuals pre and post 1966 as published in the Italian Wired Magazine with forensic details.
