I think Primal Scream is their best song, but this is definitely Motley Crue's best ballad. Vince Neil sounds amazing in this song.

Song meaning: When informed of this, Nikki Sixx laughed because of the gruesome meaning behind the song. As Sixx would later relate in his Heroin Diaries memoir, "You're All I Need" was inspired by some real-life violent impulses. Convinced his girlfriend at the time had been cheating on him with actor Jack Wagner, who was then enjoying a taste of pop stardom with his hit single "All I Need," Sixx wrote his own song - then played it for his ex. "I took the cassette over to her apartment and I didn't say anything. I just had a little cassette player and I just played it for her, and she started crying, and I walked out the door," he later told Rolling Stone. "I was like, 'Well now, that's that.'"[2] However, the rest of the band praised the song and it was recorded for the Girls, Girls, Girls album. In Nikki's book The Heroin Diaries, a journal entry states that Tommy Lee was playing the song on the piano, and Nikki wrote the lyrics for the piano part.

I would add that even doc mcgee listened to it, called Nikki & told him "It's a good song "....Nikki said "You didn't really listen to it, did you? listen again & call me back"...... awhile later Doc called & told Nikki.. "you're a SICK FK! "

The video is very disturbing. It was actually banned from airing on MTV because of the video concept You can also look at this song as a metaphor for letting go of toxic relationships. With anyone ...friend spouse or family.. or anything t could just be Nikki expressing his violent fantasies lol. Either. Way I think it's a good song. It's haunting. Keep in mind, Nikki was in a VERY dark place during' Girls Girls Girls 'era.

I've been a Crue fan since I was 13, even wore a Crue shirt at my first professional presentation. I am now 47 years old and I have to give it to you darling, you nailed the message right in the box! I've been married for over 20 years and I must say it has not always been nuts and honey 😁. We stepped back a few times and gave it some air just to find out there is us and our kids... no one else to vouch for us. Our method to the madness is not fairly suited for most, as is our manner. What is most important is that you must watch for those signs that tell you it's time to step back, and that doesn't mean you are retreating or surrendering. It means that you respect yourself and the people you love just enough to place love and dependence on the balance in order to make a choice in what's best for EVERYONE.

This is also not the entire song, I will double check and edit if I'm wrong, but there is an entire verse missing, probably shortened for playing on MTV. Edit - Ok, here it is, couldn't remember for sure but yes, cut out. I’m not saying you’re wrong but what I heard was Nikki was dating this chick who ended up cheating on him with John (or Jack) Wagner the tool who wrote “All I need” after Nikki found out he recorded this and went to her house giving her the tape and it was over between the 2.

@@cliffbooth1029 Yeah thats what heard, so the video itself might have been what Sixx read about, but the song was about a real life situation with an EX and this soap actor who had a song out call ''All I need'' in '84. He obviously didn't handle it the same way the guy in the video did.

This is what I was talking about, seeing soccer moms walking around dept. stores singing the chorus to this, because it was playing on the overhead speaker system, and they didn't know the song, just the chorus. It was really "dark" and morbidly hilarious. 😅

Acoustically it is an incredibly beautiful power ballad. I heard of a couple wanting this song played at their wedding (until they were told what the lyrics were). I wish there was a way Crüe could play it live, maybe as an instrumental.

Hi and thanks for your reaction. I believe this song and video was made in the 1980's, now I'm not sure if domestic abuse was really talked about, or if people were informed about it and the serious problems which can result from it, but clearly this song highlighted the deadly effects of it. I really enjoyed the music and the singing, but like you said the lyrics and video are really hard hitting, and they should be to show and hopefully educate people about this form of abuse. Thanks for sharing, have a lovely evening.

Nikki Sixx the bassist wrote it for his girlfriend who cheated on him, and either gave her the lyrics or Played her a demo, then left. I think the song helped him get his feelings out,and I bet the next guy she dated IF she wanted to see someone else she brokeup with them instead of Cheating on them she probably Broke it OFF with them First. The song is off the Girls, Girls, Girls album AND Tour of the same nname '87-'88. They have a song on the same album called Wildside and Tommy Lee has a Drum Solo in the video where he spins around like a Ferris Wheel while Playing the Drums. You should see that. He got his first Tattoo of Mighty Bursting through a bass drum om on his Right Shoulder, in 1982 . After looking at it For 7 Yrs got Mighty Mouse on My Left Bicep , just Mighty with a Puff of Blue Smoke Behind him. A Motley Crue and Guns-n-Roses Fan, Neal Linville P.S. Niki Sixx is the one with the Spiked Hair right before you see the Boyfriend burning pictures in the Fireplace

Nikki Sixx wrote this song for an old crazy girl friend. It was love/hate. He told her he wrote a rock ballad for her saying how much he loved her. He sent her the demo... and she wasn't too happy to say the least. He said in his book when he found out she was pissed he laughed his ass off. This whole song was just so Nikki could get a good laugh. He needed it though. As you can see in the video, he's fucked up on heroin

Wherever I hear this song I always think of Jodi Arias ! Mainly because she was obsessed with him and in this song it mentions "so many times I said you'd only be mine". Now Jodi Arias said" if I can't have you, no one will". Very similar story and stuff like this seems to happen a lot more than people think. So I think motley crue wanted to tell people how relationships can turn toxic at anytime and can turn deadly especially if the person is obsessed or has an obsessed personality like Jodi

My thoughts; Yeah, there’s a lot of fucked up people out there. Hurting women and children. Sadly, it will probably never change. Criminals and predators are given more protection and love than victims. So why would it change. There’s even predators names on the back of NFL players football helmets because of the way they died, they became martyrs?? Fucked up world we live in.....BTW,, shoulders 😍😍

you dont understand the story in the song , he gave all , and she took it and took advantage of him , all the while lying and cheating and blaming him for her actions ! I`ve lived this ,all but the killing part , though she had me considering suicide on more than one occasion , while she ruined her life chasing one worthless piece of dirt after another , only to ruin her own life and run herself into an early grave , to this day I still miss ! he snapped , he was`nt the monster , she was !

This is based on a true story by Nikki Sixx himself. Nikki was currently dating a woman that he really loves a lot during that period of time. Nikki was at the hospital or somewhere when he was alone. He finds something fishy with this woman that he dated that day. So he followed and saw her cheating with another guy. So he composed this song and when the song is finished. The first thing he did is go to the house of that woman who has been cheating on him and Nikki Sixx himself let her listen to this song. Ps. I have listened to this song for years since I was a little boy and I felt this song was not too painful for me because I never felt what love was like back then. Eventually, I have found the love of my life time in the year 2019 and I have been married since 2021 and I get to find out that she has been cheating on me behind my back for more than 3 years. And right now in 2024, when I started back listening to this song I have been crying so badly till I felt like killing her and felt too suicidal. Right now, this song is now becoming a story of mine.
