Hey comment section! You're wrong, Maexxna is bad. You're wrong, Gargoyle is bad. You're wrong, Creeper is good. You're wrong, Naxx has many good cards, such as Undertaker and Sludgy.
I'm from Taiwan, so naturally I'm playing on the Asia server. I play ladder mostly casually from time to time since I'm more dedicated to arena so my highest rank was around 10. I can say that at least for that level the meta seems to be generally exactly the same as what I've observed from Trump's videos for the most part, consisting mostly of: Zoo Warlock, Miracle Rogue, Control Warrior, Combo Druid, and a rise in Freeze Mages. Another interesting thing to note is that with Warlocks at that level there seem to be no Handlocks at all. It is almost always safe to assume any Warlock you see will be Zoo which usually turns out to be right.
I don't think Trump has realized the power of poison seeds yet. The card kills your minions *before* replacing them with 2/2's meaning the death rattles go off first. With a board like the one at 17:40 he could have poison seeds and turned a board that he was losing heavily in his favor. His board would have looked like 2/2, 2/2, 2/2, 2/2, 4/4, 1/1, 1/1 and he could have mark of natured his 4/4 to kill the three 2/2's on his enemies side.
It's interesting that you mention Stoneskin Gargoyle being the way it is for the Naxx-champion matchup - if I'm not mistaken we get Plague Quarter next week, with Stoneskin Gargoyle being the first reward card - and the Gargoyle could prove very useful against Heigan, given that on heroic he does 3 damage to the left most minion for 0 mana (that is, every turn).
Maexxna is actually good/very good card in my opinion compared to emp. cobra you are paying 1 mana for 2 hp. Can eat some removal to make other cards safe, the stats are good. It's so nice in hunter beast deck. Turn 9 Maexxna + Misha - Turn 10 Houndmaster + Faceless :3 Higly recommended to give her chance. The deck I have build is fairly succesful.
For 6 mana i don't think it's a good card since there are alot of better 6 drops out there that are alot better than maexxna, i mean just look at cairne, bloodfist ogre, savannah highmane and even gelbin is a better card.
I personally think it's a beast. Of course, there are incredibly hard counters, but what card doesn't have those? It's incredible in a control deck, and is healthy enough to 2 for 1 even large minions.
this video is proof of how bad trump is at this game. he adamantly refuses to see how strong gargoyle is, despite the game itself clearly showing him how strong it is. open up your mind trump, and accept new things. it is the only way you'll get better at the game.
If only the first class challenges were Priest and Shammy/Mage ;) I would love to see a F2P Priest even though he disclosed in a video that he won't attempt to do one :( But hey Trump likes a good challenge and maybe he'll do it someday... hopefully.
Trump, you would be surprised if you knew how much nax helped zoo already: nerubian egg can be buffed by dire wolf, shattered sun, power overwhelm etc. So that's a new huge body for zoo. Haunted creeper + knife juggler is so good when you can pull it off. With only just these card changes I shot up with zoo from rank 19 to rank 15 in less than an hour!
Not meaning to be annoying or anything, but did your Maexxna actually get alot of value? You had to spend cards on it to get its stats higher like that, did you divine spirit and defender of argus? That would sorta be like 3 for 4. What is your current experience with maexxna?
Dominic Waters In terms of card value it was a 2 for 4. But the real value was that it took the opponent 2 turns to deal with it which allowed me to control the board for the entire game afterword. I have to admit that was an ideal situation and I still don't think it's a good card
Dominic Waters His response to you was pretty good. But to add on to that, argus on it's own can be great, assuming he had another minion on the board it got 4 points of value in stats, plus it's a 2/3 so actually 9 point in stats.
I had a stoneskin gargoyle that I buffed up to 14/14 on my priest, they're pretty cool, as long as your opponent doesn't have a hard removal in their hand :D Also, I don't like Poison Seeds. It's only use is if you have a board where you have little to no minions, or the egg, and your opponent has like a board full off stormwind champions, rag, dragons, etc. Then it's worth the 4 mana. The biggest problem is that you don't get to attack with your trees until next turn. So your opponent has the advantage because they can take out your trees with their trees.
17:30 poison seeds would have been great here, since it would trigger your egg and spider. OR, you could suicide the spider to combine the 2 1/1s into a 2/2 in stead. Either way, it would have been a great play.
Maexxna is a great card if not silenced. it has more hp then an ogre and also it can kill any minion. But it can be easily silenced and killed with a kodo/shadow word pain, also it can be easily stolen by priests but also it can get charge from warsong commander and ofc not to mention its a beast =p
Maexxna isn't terrible, it's a fantastic card. Especially in a priest deck that runs divine spirits and inner fires. You silence it? Ok, i'l just make it a 8/8 16/16 or 32/32.
You can most certainly build a deck around poison seeds. I have. I call it "deathrattle druid. you play all of the minions that have good deathrattles ( like drawing cards, or hopefully making creatures. then turn 5 or six poison seeds, hopefully giving you a board full of tokens while your opponent has 2 or 3. then you win with savage roar or power of the wild buffing all of your dudes
I think this is possible, but too optimistic right now. In order to have a huge board numbers advantage you would probably need to run a token druid. I like the idea though. Maybe even a turn 8 play with two eggs would be ok, but it seems kinda slow and very situational.
Trump is really not impressed with the AI and the new Naxx cards, lol. But as someone who really enjoys playing priest and druid, I think the gargoyle with that heal mechanic is gonna be crazy.
I think because the AI isnt that clever. Sure it make efficient trades (sometimes) but the real difficulty is that they just have op hero powers, like heroic maexxna who with 0 mana return 2 of your minions to your hand
maexxna is a good card if you trade with it, it can kill like, 2 Ancient of War MAN The poison seeds fits really well in a Deathrattle deck and you can clear the enemy board with a starfall
To my surprise, I actually managed to get value with Poison Seeds in arena. I had a 2/1 and a 1/1 on the board, they were both buffed by Soul of the Forest. My opponent had a 6/5 and a 4/5, neither of them with any deathrattle. It was an excellent situation to play poison seeds and I could even follow up with a Keeper to kill one of his Treants. I ended up with four 2/2 treants on the board in addition to the Keeper and my opponent only had a single puny treant. That turn gave me an incredible comeback that ended up winning me the game. However, this was the only game I got value out of Poison Seeds and in all other games I used Poison Seeds like a terrible Polymorph. Still a bad card :)
It seems to me that if you want to make use of Poison Seeds you should put it in a deck that has lots of deathrattle. That would expand the range of situations in which it's a good play. Also, late game it combos pretty well with starfall :D
lol I'm surprised at Trump, the Gargoyle is a freaking amazing card. I guess that makes him a Spike then, since Spike really only cares about winning. I'm more of a Jonny-Spike hybrid (MTG personality test). Love to win, but also love me them combos and Gargoyle is just BEGGING for stuff like Blessing of Kings for ridiculous value. Also kinda funny to combo with Light Warden, Defender of Argus, Divine Spirit etc. you know name. EDIT: Oh and the new Rogue card is the tits. Played against a Zoo yesterday where I was pretty far behind, only had SI:7 and Spider on the board. use SI:7 to clear taunt, ram spider into his doomguard for the trade, bounces SI:7 and replay it to frag his other dude. The shenanigans you can do with the Ambusher are wonderful if you can limit the RNG. (and a 5/5 for 4 is just insane for Tempo rogue)
The issue is that it's only good with buffs, and a lot of the high end players believe that naxx will cause a lot of players and decks to run heavy silence.
Not every card has to be amazing on its own. The gargoyle is fantastic for things like bashing paladin's recruits (especially with windfury) or buff with taunt for a wall the other guy has to break down all at once. I just find it interesting (never said it was bad, there is no wrong answer) that Trump is so clearly a "spike" - the player who prioritizes winning over all else. It's actually pretty apparent watching how he drafts in Arena and goes for greedy/value plays. For reference - the MTG archetypes (which apply to CCGs in general) are Johnny (Combos) Spike (Winning) Timmy (Likes cool/flashy cards) and Vorthos (cares mostly about flavortext/art)
The legendary is not a bad card. Niether is the 1/4 gargoyle. I made him into a 5/12 taunt that the bot kept running his face into and sacing all of his creatures just to have it back up to full the following turn.
Talking a lot of poop about the Gargoyle. I don't think it's supposed to be dropped by itself asap. It's more of a combo card. Drop it later and buff it and you have a nice 'tank' if it isn't silenced. Even if it is, something bigger wasn't silenced, so it's not so bad.
The heal part is near useless as it heals at the start of your turn and it is basically a shitty 1/7 with taunt, expect it has no taunt and needs to be buffed. It's crap, like really really crap. Even if it was a 1/5, I probably wouldn't play it
it as always comes down to putting too many cards into one thing that can be dealt with rather easily by many classes, you're not wrong, however it's just too annoying/ slow and even when you buff it up, you'll have to buff it a lot to make it worth while, which just brings it back to the first point. it's just not worth it and there are many other cards that are better with and without buffs that are just better to play. and the other problem is of course what if you draw it early, and not your other early stuff. it's incredible against zoo and aggro, but not strong enough against the other decks in the meta to warrant putting it in.
The gargoyle is pretty good if you can buff it and give it taunt. I steamrolled the class challenge by drawing a stone skin, mark of nature and mark of the wild in the first few turns. 4/11 Stoneskin with taunt is nigh immortal.
I buffed gargoyle in the match to get poison seeds and made it a regenerative 3/10 with taunt being buffed by mark of nature, give all minions 1/1, and a defender for that value and AI didn't stand a chance.
Stoneskin doesn't need to be buffed, it's already really good as it is, it's ment to get buffed on the playing field, like giving it taunt is really good, it's good in priest and druid decks
I didn't think gargoyle was half as bad as Trump says it is, against the AI at least. I had no idea that the ooze also copies buffs. That makes that card x10 times better than it already was.
I played through Naxxramas using a priest, used my Shadow Cabal Priest to steal one of the tarantulas off of him, and it gave me King Krush. I was winning anyway, but it made me laugh.
Started hearthstone this year...and damn....the thought of not playing through this campaign because blizzard decided to remove it just saddens me. This looks just tailor-made for Halloween 😔
I wish the Gargoyle had some more fun unique ability, like reduce damage dealt to it by 1. The weblords I love tho. 2 cost for a 1/4 ok, but that ability definitely slows down the battlecry minions. lotta battlecry in aggro, but seems to be good meta against control too. =) *cough* Azure Drake *cough* I've already have people in ranked matches ragequit when I drop a 2nd or faceless it lol
There are actually a fair few druid decks building around poison seeds right now, mass spiders and anub. eggs = full board of pretty strong creature rather early on in the game. Not super viable imo, but interesting none-the-less.
in the Druid class trial i had the stoneskin as a 6/12 that heals to full at the start of each of my turns ied call that a bit op and most likely why its so weak to start with.
What makes you say Maexxna is so bad? It's basically an infinity/8 card against minions. sure she can't do much damage to the enemy hero, but it could be great against things like Ancient of War. Any minion that has less than 8 attack will at least 2 for 1 with it, and the only spells that could really deal with it 1 for 1 would be poly/hex. it would suck if it was silenced sure, but that means the silence/poly/hex isn't being used on something better too.
I don't think Trump realizes that Faerlina has no hard removal so it is essenttially 100% safe to just buff up a stoneskin gargoyle to all hell and it never dies. That thing wrecks face against her.
Yeah it's just retarded i'm always unlucky in games where you have to be lucky to get items like hearthstone and counter-strike go. And to save up for a legendary takes way tooooo long because i need other cards aswell.
just thought of something.... turn 2 Haunted creeper, Turn 3 Sword of justice then get the haunted creeper killed and get 2 2/2's on turn 3 and a sword of Justice.(with 3 charges)
2nd boss basicly just kill me with hero ability I was trying to throw all my cards, but she was using her hero power every single turn and it hits exacly in best targets. I was so disapoint.
I can't handle your excitement for 'Stoneskin Gargoyle,' Trump. Please calm yourself, we realize it's a fantastic card; so good that it can replace 'Alexstraza' in a 'Freeze Mage' deck.
Clockwork Knight Emp Cobra is infinity/3 for 3. I don't see how Maexxna is any better than the cobra at best. And 2 damage is nothing against a hero compared to Ogres 6.
Zupahmann The 8 health is the difference between the Cobra and Maexxna. Cobra will usually trade 1 for 1 with basically anything. Maexxna could trade 2-3 for 1 against anything with less than 8 attack. Not too bad. I'm not saying it's a great card, but I quite like it still.
Would anyone mind telling me why it's so common to only take one "Fan of knives"? I've noticed most high-end players only seem to take one but I've never understood the reasoning for not taking two :/
