Heartstopper's Kit Connor & Joe Locke | Communication Skills Reaction & Analysis 

Hi, Kit has actually said in another interview that he is very close to Joe and they became such good friends, that they trust each other 100%. And with that trust, it allowed them to throw insults back and forth at each other during interviews, which they love doing, to see the reaction from fans which makes them laugh.

Also, I do know, that Joe gets very nervous with interviews. However in his private life, he is a very open, confident and sassy young man. It is just with TV interviews that he feels slightly uncomfortable. Not surprising considering that Heartstopper was his first ever TV role, it was his acting debut. Whereas Kit has had a lot more experience in TV and films. He was in Rocketman about Elton John. And Kit has done a lot more interviews, so he is much more used to these PR events than Joe. You only have to watch the fantastic clip online during this year's Pride march in London, where Joe dances and flips the finger at a group fo homophobic protestors at the march. That shows you Joe is a lot more confident and sassy than he appears in interviews. Joe has said that he is much less shy and less adorable than his character Charlie is in Heartstopper. Still a lovely young man.

This was so good!!! You should definitely react to some more of them, the recent interview in February with British GQ is one of the sweetest ones they've done and I would totally recommend it for a reaction video.

I think that Kit comes of as very well-spoken, especially when he is working, because by working as a child actor, he’d have spent a lot of time around adults compared to other kids his age, maybe frequently as the only young person in a given environment. I think besides feeling more comfortable in front of cameras/on sets, as a young person that teaches you (even just through observing others around you) how to communicate, when speaking but even through body language, your thoughts and your personality and warmth. Seeing Kit in press interviews/red carpets vs the video when he is interviewed by his trainer when working out vs being in the background or interacting with his friends/young colleagues on set in vlogs/social media… you can see that he knows how to “turn it on” when it’s time to make himself seen and heard, and he also seems to prioritize his internal world to stay energized/activated and “save it” for the scene when he is filming. I totally believe him if he says he’s an introvert, because of his acting as Nick… what he was able to convey about that character’s internal story was mind blowing, he is very in touch with the emotional and intellectual side of things and leads with that in his acting choices. He’s said he’s not really trained a lot, he’s learned about acting through working and watching other professionals on his sets, and prefers not to over-prepare for scenes or he starts to overthink his performance instead of it feeling natural, so his approach/philosophy is very instinctual. It leads me to think that he himself is very oriented to his internal world, and also that he is an incredible listener and observer when in social situations, which has taught him how to access and express that internal world in his acting, when working and being himself but “on” (professional environments like interviews, on set, meeting fans- he universally comes across as warm and authentic), and when connecting with friends or loved ones on a personal level. I think Joe is very similar to Kit in his warmth, ability to listen and observe others, but just less experienced in this type of communication. He may come across as a bit anxious/less self assured, but I think it’s just because he hasn’t spent those years observing colleagues yet and doesn’t have that little code switch that actors develop to keep their nerves from showing too much in things like auditions, new environments, fully on auto mode yet. He seems like he gets a lot from being around other people, and I think he’ll quite quickly have found it, because he does seem incredibly thoughtful and well spoken, and we’ll see that authenticity stay in interviews while his anxieties become less visible in his body (though he’ll still share frankly about them, the way Kit dies). He’ll interview and be on the red carpet in a way that will display his personality even better, and I think he will also come across as someone who is very engaged with the person he is speaking to, making connections with others easily when he is “on”, even more than Kit, because he will ultimately find it activating. On set, he doesn’t need as much to stay focused inwardly between takes, but I think his screen acting is going to go from excellent to mind-blowingly good very quickly!

true! but after watching Tobie Donovan's vlogs from the filming of the show, I can definitely see how that's actually the case!

Kit may be an introvert but he has a lot of social skills. Joe is a bit more frank than is Charlie (his character), and I believe he may be using the word extrovert as a stand-in for frankness and calling people out.

I suspect Kit may be an extrovert in the Jungian sense

I mean extrovert means you get energy from being around because and introvert means you get your energy back from being alone. I am a very get very anxious in social situations which tends to cause me to be alone a lot but I get so energized when I am able to hangout with people.

Kit's been in the industry longer so he's probably more used to these interviews and stuff than Joe is, which could affect things.

i definitely agree, mostly because they themselves have said this, it can really be seen with joe without the interview cameras.

Kit has been acting since he was 8, both in movies and TV shows. I saw an interview, when Kit was 8 years old (when he was in a movie called "Get Santa") -- that kid was incredibly poised and articulate!
