I love how protective Nick is of Imogen this season (reminds me of how Tori is with Charlie) like he basically adopted her as his unofficial little sister being the big brother figure to her that he doesn't have in David.
Nick might seem older, but Kit Connor was only 2 years older than his character during filming. Sure beats having actors in their mid twenties playing highschoolers xD
I haven't even had a chance to watch anybody's reactions yet because I always make sure that I record and edit mine beforehand... So now I am so excited to go and watch everybody else be disgusted by him 😂
@@nicksaysboo17 The visceral shock at Harry of all people calling Ben out is absolutely priceless and relatable. Like things are BAD if Harry of all people is calling you out. 🥴😭
I was actually shocked in watching interviews with Ben's actor (Sebastian Croft). He was so nice and charming. It was hard to believe he could play such an *sshole.
Bash is Ben's #1 hater lol I got to see how cute and nice he is in Tobie (Isaac's actor)'s vlogs. He's an amazing actor, bc he and Ben are COMPLETELY different
I really appreciated that given its short run time, I didnt feel like the show was rushed. I felt every character got the right amount of development and screen time.
Agreed, the 8 episodes was the perfect length imo. Any longer would have allowed some of the storylines to get stretched out, which they did not need to be.
Some fun stuff - including things not shown in the video: - Kit (Nick) is more noticeably different due to puberty but also Kit bulked a lot between seasons partly based on “fans” making awful comments about his body not “looking like” Nick from the comics - The kissing montage were all improv scenes and the reaction to the hair ruffle was genuine from Kit (not Nick), as he didn’t know that was a note given by the director - For the two month anniversary scene, Charlie’s blazer patch changes during the special effects moment, like Nick’s did during Charlie’s love fantasy in s1 ep1 - Charlie’s dad is definitely the more supportive one, particularly in the graphic novel - Isaac’s mum for the parent teacher interview is played by the actor’s real life mum! - The park they meet up and kiss at in ep2 is the same one where Nick was scared to kiss in s1; pretty sure of it anyway - Charlie’s ban on seeing Nick lifted after the exams finished, so he just went back to having a regular curfew - Joe (Charlie) is a huge fan of Olivia Coleman and really angled hard to meet her last season, so having scenes with her this season would have had him fangirling inside the whole time - As others have said, in the comics Tao didn’t know they were together for part of the Paris trip, so yeah the logic for the show here isn’t great really - Tao and Elle’s museum trip montage was also improv!
One of the funniest things about Charlie's comment about Marvel is the fact that his actor, Joe Locke, is cast in an upcoming Marvel role (presumably Billy Kaplan aka Wiccan) 😂😂 And if he does turn out to be Wiccan, SOOOO many people (myself included) want Nick's actor, Kit Connor, to play his on-screen love interest, Teddy Altman aka Hulkling.
@@frederiquem6725 while I think that'd be amazing, until they actually announce Kit as Hulkling, I'm just going to assume it is nothing more than a fan cast.
the two months of dating thing in episode 1 is actually starting from harry’s party in season 1 episode 3 (april-june), so the kissing montage of cute moments was the passing of a couple of weeks :) 💫
1. Great job! 2. The kissing montage infers a time jump of probably a month. 3. The movie theatre popcorn and snacks were an homage to Wes Anderson's visual aesthetic 4. Charlie, to me, has some sort of empathetic personality disorder where he does whatever the other person needs. Charlie is basically doing Nick's homework, which is why all the teachers seemed surprised by his improvement, but also why Nick struggled with his math GSCE. 5. As someone mentioned, just like last year, some of the stuff they used word for word from the comics doesn't make sense with some of the changes they made. 6. Hair and makeup budget increased, so everyone is looking a bit older than they should be, but looking fabulous.
So, season 2 of Heartstopper actually takes place right after season 1. The little montage of Charlie and Nick in the beginning of episode 1 was just the span of a couple of weeks. This Paris trip takes place at the end of the school year; so they’ll have their Paris trip and it’ll be the summer holidays after. When they said they were dating for a couple of months they were talking about the months they were dating in season 1. Nevertheless, I enjoyed your reactions (as always) and I can’t wait to see your reaction to the last 4 episodes! ❤
Um... so Kit Connor, the actor playing Nick, is 19. Was 18 when this was filmed. 17 when season 1 was filmed. Yes, he's buffed up a bit, but it's literally been a year. Puberty is weird. Look how much taller Charlie got in one year. 😊
Actually his three rugby friends Otis, Sai and Christian actually figured out Nick liked Charlie quite early on and that scene should have had Otis and Sai cussing Christians and saying "Why did you say they were mates, he might have told us"... I'm glad we actually got more of them this season but if there was one thing I would change i would have added more of them and their friendship with Nick.
I'm living for all the Buffy clips! Glory being punched around is so satisfying. It's been 20 years and I still can't stop myself from rewatching season 5.
The Tao thing is ( wasn’t sure if you caught it ) but his dad dying is part of the him being so crazy about feeling like he’s being left, so Charlie “ not prioritizing their friendship over his man or Ell inviting her friends to the party” he’s seeing all normal things in a way that says they are Ganna leave him. When the mom said when we lost your dad it all clicked, ok I get it now why he’s being like this.
this gets mentioned again in episode 8! i love tao, and his character makes so much sense to me. though he does act a little erratic at times it still makes sense
Have to admit…I’m one of those annoying gays that finds most LGBT content to be really cringe….but dammit this show manages to melt even my usual ice queen heart….
Your reaction to Harry saying something NORMAL AND CORRECT had me gagged. Because honestly, that was me! I had to play that twice before i realized it was him!
Lol I showed my little sister season 1 last night and she loves it but she kept quoting Mrs. Weasley from Harry Potter. She thinks the actor playing Nick could pass for a missing Weasley kid. 😂
The thing someone in the comments told you about Ben being brought back because of the actor (Bash) is just a fan rumor/theory. It’s never been confirmed by anyone involved in the show. People just assumed that because he isn’t in this part in the comics. But it’s a lot more complicated than that and there are plenty of reasons for the show to deviate from the comics with his story. People just get stuck thinking the show has to stick exactly to the comics and if it doesn’t there must be some external reason. But Alice has made quite a lot of changes because she thinks it works better for the story, and I think Ben’s arc this season was definitely one of them.
I was almost 40 when I came out to my parents. I was both petrified and reassured that they would be okay with it and they were! My dad in particular has been trying to learn about LGBTQIA+ and is currently educating himself on pronouns. He gets it wrong about 90% of the time but he’s trying and being over 70, I am giving him some slack. My parents aren’t the type to wave the ally flag in a parade but if anyone requires adoption, they will take you in. And regardless of your age, they will enforce the 3inch rule on the bedroom door 😂
I got the impression that the two months of dating was the same two months that Nick mentioned when he came out to his mom. He told her he and Charlie "started going out a couple of months ago". It might have been a time jump, but when I first saw this, I just thought it was that time since they actually started seeing each other, maybe even since the kiss in episode 3. It's really hard to gauge the time, though, without specific time markers. Also, thank you!!! I also got Principal Snyder vibes from Mr. Farouk.
The "you bunch of 16 year olds go wander around come back here in a few hours" thing is actually pretty normal in my experience. My school trips to Paris, Amsterdan (just a day trip) or the week on an island in the North Sea, are a while ago, but we were also told to mark the hotel on our maps, walk around the city, and be back in a few hours. Or told, the bus is here, you've got three hours to visit the Sacre Coeur, and walk around Montmartre, see you later. :) I've noticed most European fans are like "yeah, this is my experience, this is normal" and the Americans are all "OH NO THEY'RE ALL GOING TO GET KIDNAPPED AND DIE!" 😉 Imogen dumping Ben gives me life. Imogen is inexperienced, insecure like any teen, but also self-assured, she has enough confidence in her own judgement of what is and is not acceptable.
I haven’t seen many comments about it, but Ben isn’t still in season 2 because they like Bash (although they are very close cast). There was an interview (I think a written one) where both Alice and Bash decided Ben also needed his “Heartstopper moment”. (Spoilers; even tho he doesn’t embrace it). His story needed a different end than the Sports day thing. The same way Isaac’s Heartstopper moment is when he really that asexuality and aromatism is an probability for him and that nothing is wrong with him, Ben needed a Heartstopper moment but it wasn’t supposed to be an easy forgiveness thing. Also for Charlie himself; having that confrontation with Ben and being able to actually tell Ben just how much that treatment affected him. As for Tao; I totally understand that because of season 1, it’s easy to get upset at him and blame him but Elle didn’t tell him she likes him, she vaguely tried to flirt and when it didn’t work she began distancing herself, and she used Naomi and Felix as her “get out of naming out with Tao” card. Like she was like “I’m busy so I can’t hang out because of my exams but also I’m going out to a club with my new friends”. It’s neither of their faults tbh they’re both teenagers going through a complicated situation of having feelings for a best friend and not wanting the friendship to be ruined. It’s normal and realistic to have some teenage miscommunication (temporarily). Anyway I’m rambling
What you said about Isaac took the words right out of my mouth about him looking at couples and feeling left out which is what I thought instead of him not feeling that way about someone or not know much about asexual you read my mind there
I really loved this season and how it dealt with new situations. I was so scared of them just being like a broken record and bringing up all the issues of the first but the pace, the tone, the emotion, etc. just honestly was handled so well in this.
People saying Ben is only back cause the actor is popular are just making this up. The Ben storyline is something the author couldnt wrap up in the comic because she didnt have time (and cause he was not as nuanced in the comic so much more difficult to do). Like, after the Harry birthday party he dissapeared from the comic. That doesnt work in a tv show. So the author and the actor had lots of chats about what they would do for his character in s2 to find a right balance in his storyline. But no it wasnt "the actor was just popular".
@@nicksaysboo17 In Tories story, the book Solitaire (not a comic), he comes back as well if I remember correctly. He hasn't gotten better there at all, if anything he gets worse. But yeah, in the comics he kinda disappears.
I just rewatched your reaction here before looking at part 2, and I just wanted to say I really enjoy your commentary, critiques and observations -' chuck Harry on the fire'😂😂. Also your add ins with the editing are fab! Thanks for the chuckles..... now I'm gonna watch yoy get hammered by part two 😢
You were spot on about Isaac, but your timeline is a bit askew. Nick & Charlie met when school resumed after the Christmas break and in the current series they are heading toward (what we'd call in America) Summer vacation. So they've only known each other about 4 - 5 months.
A GCSE is a national exam that people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland take at the end of Year 11 (10th Grade). Typically you sit it in 8-10 subjects. The results determine where you can go for post-16 Education and are taken into account for university admission etc. The level is that of a US High School Diploma. In Year 12 and 13, many people go on to sit A Levels which are equivalent to AP courses in the US.
The Show starts the day after the beach which is right away when the season one ends but the kissing montage ( first 5-8 minutes) shows timing passing … that is when the 2 months happened. Summer will start after Paris trip
It’s crazy how good these young actors are. Especially the bully types… cuz they really do a good job of making me dislike the characters. Can’t wait for more!✌🏻💖
Great video. Total sidebar to all of the more relevant issues BUT... as someone who did languages all the way to A level (which are the next two years after the GCSE exams Nick finishes here) I went on three overseas trips with secondary school (twice to France and once to Germany) and they *absolutely* would drop you off in a city and let you wander around for a few hours or most of a day unsupervised - that's completely normal. It largely works on the basis that if you can't be trusted to be left like that they don't let you come on the trip to begin with! :D
Yeah same. I had German and French so I got to choose whether I wanted to go to Paris or Berlin, people who took Latin got to go to Rome. We had so many school trips, like, a week long biology/geography research trip to an island in the North Sea, a day trip to Amsterdam for Geography and History, etc etc, I ended up choosing Paris. And yeah, they told us to mark the hotel on our maps and sent us on our way to find food, or explore the Champs Elysee, or the Rijksmuseum, or cycle in pairs all over an island.
It's funny you mentioned Kit Connor Hulking up because he's been mentioned as in the running for Hulkling in the MCU who is half of a gay couple with Wiccan that is already being played by Joe Locke.
Watching this back, I now have a new perspective on tao. He just really doesn’t want to lose someone he loves (platonically) and cares for. But with that being said, I thought I was buggin the way I was so stressed over these people and their relationships! No one is ever fully transparent about how they feel.
25:06 funny how half of the marvel fandom actually wants Marvel to cast Kit Conner as Hulkling aka teddy since there’s a rumor that Joe(who plays Charlie) might be Wiccan(Billy) in a marvel show coming soon
My intro to Olivia Colman was way before she was an Oscar-winning actress (ashamed to say I haven't watched "The Favorite" yet--keep waiting for when I'm in the mood for a period drama). My intro was "Peep Show" and "That Mitchell and Webb Look" and then later "The Rev". The first two shows are straight up comedies. The second one being a sketch comedy. So my intro to her was as a comedic actress but I loved her immediately. Her face is incredibly emotive. I highly recommend "Peep Show" even though it is cringy AF, it's so funny. For less cringe go for 'That Mitchell and Webb Look" and specifically look up "Number Wang".
I saw her first in Mitchell and Webb too, then Hot Fuzz, so I only knew her as a comedic actress :D It wasn't a big shock to see her in more serious roles, but I did have to adjust a bit to going from "I quite like a midnight gobble AHAHAH" to "let me solve this murder case with grumpy David Tennant" :)
Everybody says Nick is a Golden Retriever, and he totally is. I would say Imogen is a Cocker Spaniel. She is so lacking in guile. I love her to bits. I'm one of the few who liked her off the bat but maybe because I'm a mom and Gramma. Also, my mentality is such that I remember that I'm seeing what characters aren't seeing so I didn't judge her immediately for her falling over herself with Nick. They were legit friends for four or five years and *she* doesn't know about Charlie. It wasn't cool her saying that they were together, even with a qualified more or less, but otherwise, she was just being a girl with a crush on a really nice, gentle friend.
I never thought I would feel represented by Imogen this season. I get the I don't have that many friends part but that's life. I had several friends in the past but plenty of them were so toxic, part of the gay life.
Don't take this the wrong way, but you're so American about how UK and European kids are given freer reign than US kids. I was raised in France and it was nothing for us to go to London on a school trip and be allowed to explore on our own for a few hours. We knew we had to be buddied up and return to a designated spot at a certain time. I guess given the dangers US kids have to face on a frightening regular basis, it's a very different situation, but not for UK/European teens.
We often have free time here in uk school trips even when we go to another country. We often are left to make our own way to school around age 9-10 were all taught road safety ect at a a early age so yeah we can usually just leave the teachers to hang out and we all go hang out somewhere else and meet up at a certain place and time :)
I was thinking the same. In Germany most students that can walk to school do so alone from 1st grade, and on school trips starting at 4th grade the only requirement is that the parents signed that you're allowed to do that and you have to go in groups of three or more so if someone gets hurt or something else happens there's always someone that can go get help.
Episode 1: LOVE the montage of Charlie and Nick hanging out. I remember what that was like where you wanted nothing more than to hang out with your BF every night. Episode 2: Oh, I had a nosy MFer of an older brother like that. OMG, I so empathized with Nick here. So happy his mom was like "You secure that shit, Hudson." to the brother. Episode 4: Ya, I didn't get the whole 'Nick and Charlie need to not sleep in the same bed' nonsense. Also Charlie's eyebrows when Nick says "We'll do it some day." Love Charlie, love them both so much. When they're at the dinner and Ben being a douche, I was like 'Look at Nick. If looks could kill. Ben just needs to say one more nasty thing and I bet Nick will fly across that table and throttle him.' When Nick was necking with Charlie, I knew he was going to get a hickie. He was sucking that neck for a while. Also JFC, Nick has become buff AF. Dayum, what I wouldn't have given to have a big sweet brawny ginger BF like him in high school.
You can tell Harry left such a bad taste in people’s mouth because of how annoyed they are of him in this season, when in fact he’s barely had any lines this season. Imo he really wasn’t as awful as last season but the sour taste is still there 😂😂😂
I started freaking out when I saw you had reacted to Heartstopper!!! (Where have I been?! I binged all your reactions last night!) I loved all your Hannibal reactions and have watched those over and over and now I can't believe you've watched another of my favorite shows! I can't wait for the rest of season 2! Also, I'm sure other people have recommended it because they're so similar, but have you seen Young Royals? Seeing your reaction to that would be incredible.
I enjoy your reactions! This season really was so powerful. I cannot watch it without bawling 😭 my eyes out. Especially episode 8. I love these characters so much. It seems there is a lot of green tones this season and I think it’s because Nick and Charlie are a couple now and. Because 💛+💙=💚. 😊 Season three will be a bit deeper and darker, but I am confident Alice and team will do an amazing job! Excited about Vol 5 in December.
Funny you mention the Incredible Hulk. The Marvel character Kit Connor is rumored to be portraying in the future is Hulk Boy (really cringy to me but I'm here for it if it happens).
There was no time jump, they had been dating for two months when Nick came out to his mom. Tao losing his father explains why he’s always so desperate to hold onto people.
OMG I love that you recognise the acting prowess of the ‘bully’ characters but if you want to see this in full throttle ( not to take anything away from these guys), try Young Royals. August (played by Malte Gårdinger), amazing acting (actually from the whole cast is awesome)
Hey Nick, hope you had a great day. Always love your reactions...being funny and serious. I totally agree that bullying is not ok. I've always accepted and treated people with total respect. Everyone is human and everyone has feelings. Nobody is better than anyone else and deserves to be happy in which ever way they want. I hope you have a great night and look forward to another awesome reaction next time. Keep being awesome dude. You work hard and i'm proud of you. Enjoy. 😊❤
Don't feel bad Nick. Before watching this show I didn't even know who Olivia Coleman was but after seeing her performance in season 1 I fucking love her😊
the ppl in the comments (not you nick, i love your reaction) saying that the actors didn't do as great this season because of puberty changes........bfr lmao. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that ya'll haven't watched the last episode coz as someone who easily cringes as teen actors most of the cast, if not all of them, improved so much and they deserve awards for this season
For some context, in the comics, Tao doesn't know about Nick and Charlie prior to the France trip so when they get to the hotel rooms, Tao takes the other bed because he thinks it'd be awkward for Nick and Charlie to share a bed since he only thinks Charlie has a crush on Nick and it's not reciprocated. This leads to the hand holding scene from opposite beds (and the other cute convos) that I'm sure the author wanted to be kept in so they kept Tao's actions the same and just slightly adjusted his reasoning for it. Loving your review so far! 💖💖
Tao has his hair like this because he let it grow long to support Elle, when she was letting it grow while at Truham. He curls his hair in order to not get suspended for it. Elle, mentioned it in the first season how she kept getting suspended because her hair was longer than her ears.
Pretty sure this is just a fan theory. Will said in an interview his hair was really long at the time and they were trying out different hairstyles and that’s the one that stuck. So glad they did cut it for s2 though!
14:00 It's still late May/early June, literally the next week after the end of the prior season, with no time jump. (The two month reference is relative to the prior couple or so months that they were seeing each other prior to Nick coming out to mom.)
@@nicksaysboo17 it was a big success for Phoebe Waller Bridge who wrote and starred in it. Relatively short as well with only twelve 25 minute episodes 😊 hope you enjoy it if you do get the chance to watch!
I think the GCSE’s are sort of like the equivalent of a Regents exam. And then A-levels are sort of like the SAT exams. I’m basing this solely off of American school grade levels. Year 11 would mean that Nick is only a sophomore (I learned this in one of the Heartstopper stories lol), so he still has two more years of school. That’s not to say you can’t take your SAT in sophomore year, I just think those are what those exams are
Goddam what a great reaction! “Flames” is always gold. And Sonya Falsworth (Olivia Coleman) should have been given all of Secret Invasion 🤩 Great shirt and I love your regalia/bangles and rings, Nick ✨😎 And poor Charlie not enjoying Marvel. No one’s perfect.
I think the two month thing is from Nick came to Charlie’s house in the rain and that’s when they got together so it’s been two months since that still within the same semester at school so no time has really passed
You seem to be overthinking some things… First, just to clarify: There was no time jump. This season picks up literally the day after season one. Remember that when Nick came out to his mom, he and Charlie had ALREADY been dating almost two months. This season, the students are finishing up coursework, taking end-of-year tests, etc., and Nick is trying to come out before summer break. Yes, Imogen's hair change and Nick's extra buffness are a bit odd in that context, but I can overlook it (especially since part of the reason Kit started working out so much is that his character is SUPPOSED to be tall and buff). Second, the actors who play the core students are all 18-24 years old (with the youngest being "Harry" and the oldest being "Tara"), so their appearances aren't likely to change all that much in the year since the fist season. Maybe your perception is influenced because the characters themselves are so young. 🙂 Meanwhile, "Tori" is 28.
AHHH I'M SO EXCITED!!! I'm so obsessed with this show it's not funny. I'm gonna wait until the 2nd half reaction drops then I'm gonna binge it! I already know this is gonna be great!
I know how you feel Nick. Even Soroity house massarce after seeing Ray Spinka def put a spin on hardware shops for hunks. And the town I live in there is a LOT of those shops
@@nicksaysboo17 my trigger on guys is different to your own. I go for the ones who defend themselves going for strength on his part. It makes having to go to those places a battle to control myself in those shops Its the confidence I see in him I aim for. Fashion is part of it but not all.
Love the hair! However , you need another ring... 😊 On the subject of Charlie completing his homework, it took him so long completing it because he was helping Nick studying for that test. Remember the first episode when he was telling Torrie that he wanted to make possible that Nick do not go through the stress he went through when he was outed. You'll see through the series that Charlie will put his needs aside for Nick's sake. They'll be consequences... Love your review! Thank you! (You still have the prettiest smile) ❤
@@nicksaysboo17 hehehe... about the rings...What you do in the privacy of your own room is none of my business... ;) Inappropriate, I know. But you left the door wide open... Hehehe
@@nicksaysboo17 yeah, I don’t know how much you know about what kit has gone through but he got bullied for his body so he bulked up. It’s all so sad and I just want to hug him. It’s also crazy how a year and a half can change a teenager. Me and nick are almost the same age and it makes me crazy thinking about me two years ago.
@@nicksaysboo17The show is based on graphic novels, so it needs to keep a similar timeline in order to follow that story. And since actual teenagers were cast, it’s inevitable that they’re going to look a bit older from season to season, regardless of how much less time has passed in-universe. There’s really just no way around it. So yeah, you’ve got to just agree to suspend disbelief on that front. Also, Joe Locke (Charlie) is actually a few months older than Kit Connor (Nick) irl, Joe just doesn’t look as different now as Kit does.
16:45 same I hated him so much (the character obvi) but after watching the behind the scenes clips and such I now love the actor. Same with nicks brother in this season, the actor seems nice and doesn’t want to play a mean role but here we are lool. Love this show ❤
Every1 is like wtf when the shirtless scene came,i mean we got 1 in season 1 too but that was just normal, but this transformation turned him into a marvel superhero, probably even at the level of steroids😅😅😅.Anyways if that body and look dont qualify for hulkling which is a gay marvel character and the boyfriend of Wican (played by joe locked aka charlie casted in agatha upcoming) i dont know who will😂.but i think kit connor might not play most rising stars hate being stuck in 1 role like Daniel only known for harry potter or Jacob actor taylor from twilight.
Kit was in the first season 17 and now 18...he looks now more like in the comics and bash is amazing as b🤢n and the queer books representation is good from alice, in iowa are the heartstopper books forbidden in a school libary and funny Charlie don't like marvel and Joe is in the MCU 😅
