i'm in the mojave desert, just as las vegas is in the mojave desert - 100+ degree almost every day during the summer. my japanese sweet potatoes, melons, okra, radish tails, callaloo, squash, black eyed peas and amaranth are doing well. no struggles with heat/no wilting. i water by hand in the morning. everything is green, healthy and there are lots of flowers on the melons with pollination occurring.

Here in Southern California the heat sometimes can be hard to grow. What I learned from my dad he sometimes water the plants with leftover soups broth this technique helps very much. My fathers garden looks like a jungle 🤣. I love it. Love the fig tree.

I am in Tucson. I have been able to grow broccoli, chard, kale, Bok Choi, spinach, various types of lettuce. After I moved here everything I tried the first couple of years died. Shade cloths did not work for me but correct positioning in garden was a game changer.

115°F? Even if it's a dry heat, that's brutal! Thanks for showing us how your garden is doing and which plants are coping well.

I planted some of the things there, but can't take credit to all as I'm not there full time to maintain the garden. It's great to see how same plants do in CA VS NA.

After this brutal summer here in central California, I will definitely be planting more of the varieties you talked about here. I have seed for several of them, including Malabar spinach and Egyptian spinach, but I will look in to the more ornamental perslanes. Thanks Wendi!

Thank you Wendi, for years I have struggled in my zone 8a very humid climate, trying to grow bell peppers. All this time I thought that it was me. I was also looking at some gardeners from the North when I should have been paying more attention to what others were growing in desert hot or hot humid climates.

Hi Wendi!! Love your videos!! I live in SW Florida and in zone 9b, it was a brutal summer and still is soooooo hot here, heat index in the 105 degrees for last 2 months, a few days not that high because of rain like today and yesterday we got a ton of rain, I grow 3 Moringa tree I got the seeds from Bakers Creek it is the dwarf variety they do sooo well in the heat and are full of nutrients, you must grow them were you live they would do great and also lemongrass my lemongrass loves the high heat, have a great day :0)

Yeah, living in South-Central Texas I always laugh at (while cursing under my breath) plant labels that say "Full Sun". Not much can take the full Texas sun in the hotter months of the year. Following the labels is a sure way to be an unsuccessful gardener here. Water is an issue even with the heat loving plants, being in the current drought we are in I just couldn't justify the amount of water I was using to keep the soil moist enough for healthy growth. Skipping a day of watering was all it took to kill most anything, even with deep watering. Pray for rain.

some how I missed this episode, This garden looks great! The way the plants are planted so close to each other provide a micro climate that may have help with moister loss as well as shading from canopy and sub-canopy plants. I wonder what kind of irrigation system this owner used. By the way, the Jujube's fruit is small, is that a new tree? I grew mine from sucker plant 3 years ago and cut it back every winter and end up with tons of little fruits like the one I see in this video. They are still good to eat but wish they would be bigger and bigger every year. :) The Hibiscus plant is so big! does the owner use fertilizer on them?
