Another good one Dan. Thanks ... I use a blow dryer daily in my routine. With the beard getting longer I’ve learned that I really don’t need much heat. I’m good with a warm setting. Using a Chicago #8 comb helps with volume as well. I use the blower dryer, barrel brush and 2 different combs for my routine. It’s all fast and productive.

For me, your best advice has been that we each have our own unique beards and have to find what works best for our own beards. For me, I am learning that a combination of blow dryer and heat brush works best for my medium beard. While videos from you and others have been very helpful for studying grooming techniques, I learn the most from the Wednesday night Beard Advice. The experience and insight of the couple of hundred people participating can’t be matched.

Awesome video Dan. I have a medium beard. I have noticed with the fine hair on my beard the blow dryer is best. Volume and ability to style. The cold shot at the end has been great guidance from you. I noticed it helped lock in my style. If I don’t use the cold shot I notice my beard gets frizzy and longer for the balm/butter to lock in. Heated brush makes my fine hair look awkward and thin.

Another great video Dan C. I have a pretty good S wave on each side of my face. The top goes forward to the chin and the bottom goes toward the ear. I find it helpful to comb, with the blow dryer, the entire amount of hair on the check backward, to fight the curve coming to the chin, then comb just the bottom half back to the front, to fight the curve going to the ear, and finish it by combing the whole cheek downward. Another thing to keep in mind, there are only 365 days in a year. So if someone styles EVERY day, with no breaks, that is only 365 attempts in a year. It will take some time to figure out what is needed for your beard, and then to become an expert at styling it that way. Like so many other beard related things, styling is a good exploration into the art of patience.

Hey Dan. Great video as usual!! I use both. If you’ll remember I’m usually concerned on my beard looking thin. The hair dryer and blowout technique works well for me most of the time however I probably use a brush most don’t use. It’s a plastic vented brush. I use it after I’ve combed through with my Chicago 8 comb. My vented brush gives me more tension and of course grabs more hairs than the comb. I use boars hair bristle brush on my mustache and soul patch. I do use a heated brush once a week or so to help single out my chin dip and help perk up my under beard too. I use very low heat though. Too high of heat makes my beard too straight and looks a lot thinner.

For a natural more filled look on a long beard I go with the hair dryer. 1st blow downward after applying oil, then upward in a directions, & finally style with a Kent 16T using the cold button feature. The wind can blow the beard all over throughout the day but nothing a good side to side shake and the 16T can't fix cause the beard stays fluid with minimal products. Also use Detroit Grooming butter at night.

I have both. I mostly use a blow dryer tho. I started off using a heat brush and as my beard got more dense and long. It also got more curly and wavy. The heat brush is good. It gets my beard straight and nice but the blow dryer I can just make it look how I want it a little bit better. Once I learned the coordination with the dryer and comb/round brush it was awesome. I still use the heated brush every so often but day in and day out I’m using blow dryer. But when I have those days I really having trouble getting my waves out from my cheek and my chin. I go in with the heat brush at the end just real quickly where my waves are and I go up against my face a few passes. Then down and it usually always works just fine for me! Awesome video Dan!!! I have a short beard as of now....( 3 months of growth) no heat as of yet but I found out that if I use 2 combs to style I can get the look im looking for much easier then with only one I slide the first finetooth comb up into the beard and take the second wooden finetooth and comb down. Then once im done with that spot pull straight down on the 1st finetooth comb... alot of work but for my short beard works great 👍 haha but on the heat side of things my wife has natural VERY straight hair so she doesn't use or own any hair tools other then combs and a brush.. lol same for makeup never really uses it unless its a date night or she just feels like she needs it.. haha she's awesome! Blow-dryer for my long beard. You're right that a long beard doesn't need to use the beard straighter. I do not like to have a pin-straight look. But lately, I haven't used a blow-dryer for like 3 months now. My beard's weight is much easier to style and lays down straight easily without having a poofy look on the sides. Great video, Dan! 👌🏻

I'm a blow dryer guy. The blow dryer affords me a fuller more natural appearance and I have become accustomed to using it. I am in the market for a new one and have been casting about to find one that isn't too large, has a low low speed setting with warm heat, plus an easy to use cold shot. I currently have a Blown dryer that I discovered has some short comings. I have a Kuschelbär heated brush and I have only used it a hand full of times because it gives my beard a thinner appearance and more transparency toward the ends.

I have a 5" beard and I've been using a heated brush for the past 2 weeks and I think it works great for me. Though I've noticed that I'll get a very large gap above my adams apple if I comb underneath my chin. although it can be fixed by bombing back the hairs, I'll just get large spaces between the hairs instead. A blow dryer and comb can be hard for me to control since I have a condition that makes my arms twitch a lot and my fine motor skills aren't great. But the heated brush works great for my needs.

Great topic brother... esp with all these companies putting out heated beard brushes lately. I have both blow dryer and a heated brush. I tend to stay short/ med length beard due to work ( medical field). I do my beard in the morning and we have a 3 y/o so sound is definetely a factor but i agree that i can get roughly the same result with both. With a hair dryer i like to go med/ low heat and pull the hair down with a comb and to straighten the beard. Input the blowdryer right above the comb as i pull it down and it works really well. I also curve/ twist the comb away from my face to keep tension on the beard hair as i gently pull it down whicb def helps straighten it better. Hope this helps fellas 🤙

Also before I use the heated brush I comb it out real good and get out all the tangles and then I use the heat brush on the bottom of my beard first the under beard I mean I comb it all out and then I come back and go down with it and I pin it against my chest and pull lightly

Blow dryer with thick oil for my beard. Tried heated brush but made beard to stringy. Always go with what work best for your beard.

Trusted Teacher=always rocking the advice. Question, does it matter if you wait too long after you put oil in beard to use heat? I use a heated brush due to the blower being too noisy. I have a business to medium beard without heat and more medium with heat due to curls.
@DanCBearded
@DanCBearded 3 года назад
I recommend using the heat 5-10 after applying the oil

I use a heated brush when I want to control or style my beard. I found that if I use the heat and brush from my ear to my chin first I get all the hair going in the same direction and then bush it down in the direction I want it to stay. I always us balm after or else all that work was for nothing.

Since I’m back to working and wear a mask practically all day I don’t use either since the mask will cover my beard. When I’m not working I will use the hair dryer and at least once a week I’ll use the heated brush. Hair dryer works great to tame the stache.

When I use a blow dryer, I feel that I add static to my beard. I feel it's too frizzy most times when using a blow dryer. I do however notice a more fuller/denser look when using a blowdryer. I usually find using a beard straightener does best given my location due to humidity, weather etc. I do recommend giving your beard a break from heat regularly. I find it helps heal brindle hairs and your beard sorta rehabs and usually tends to look even better when styling it with heat after that break from heat. Heat+Tension=direction 100%agree, KANSAS+Wind+Blowdryer=Bad Static Electricity lol. Awesome video Dan! 👊

I have only ever used a blow dryer for my beard. It's at about 6-7" at any given time. The biggest thing I've learned along the way is to use the bones in my face to stabilize the brush and the hair to get my beard straight.

Thanks for the videos! Just started my beard journey and use oil in the morning and butter at night! But I had someone recently tell me about beard jelly! Any recommendations or your thoughts on it? When to use it? Does it replace butter or balm or work in addition to those?
@DanCBearded
@DanCBearded 3 года назад
I am not a fan of beard jelly at all. It tries to replace oil and balm, but doesn’t do a good job of doing either

I’m four months into my yeard, so I’d say I’m maybe medium’ish length, at about five inches. Without some sort of straightening, mine just gets this ball of hair on my chin, with finger waves on either side. I have a heated brush, but it alone doesn’t give me the results I want. I run that at around 380°, and only make three or four passes. But I use both hands, with the brush in one and my beard comb in the other, “following”, behind the brush, (if that makes sense). This method, with minimal passes gives me a nice, natural look. Now, I realize this is basically the same method/action as using a hair dryer....but it is less noise as Dan said, aaaaand I bought the brush so I’m gonna use it. So there’s that. BEARD ON FELLERS!

What up Dan? After putting on oil and then heat, do I add more oil or butter afterwards?

After I use the blow dryer, I always make a quick pass with the heated heard brush. I'm not sure why, but that quick hit with the heated beard brush takes the softness of my beard to the next level. It's like running my fingers through air!

I use both sometimes just the blow dryer but always some kinda heat , any tips on how to stop the separation between left and right, there seams to be a line straight.down the middle? Like my chin dimple is also in my beard ? and I see this in a lot of guys with a medium to long beard, mine is not as long as yours but almost

I prefer the blower for my beard, the brush gives me a thin and wispy look. I do use it on my nappy head hair though! Maybe i ll give it a try with less times and strokes, mine only goes up to 200 but more than enough for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Dan so, after shower rim AM I pat dry my beard to 70-80% dry still damp. Then put in my oil. Is there a certain amount of time of putting the oil in and blow drying or can I just put oil in and blow dry? My beard is a hair short for blow drying at this time technically , as it’s about an inch to inch and a half at 2 month regrowth, put I started because I do get a fuller beard and i want to build my AM routine dialed in now so in 2-5 more month I will have the styling, blow out down. Thank you trusted teacher

I use a hairdryer, only because that is what we have. Thanks Dear. Otherwise I like to use a small round brush to twirl and pull the beard hairs as I heat. I have a wave near the bottom of my 4" (so far) beard that drives me crazy and the round brush is the only thing that allows me to work it out properly.

Ive grown out my beard for almost 2 years now.. I've been using a heated brush. I haven't been using oil before the heat. I have a lot of hair that falls out. Maybe about 10-15 a day. I feels like too much and it shows. Sometimes I want to cut it. I'm thinking about starting to use a hair dryer and use oil more frequently. The night oil is a good idea.
