I got a Sephora heated eyelash curler as a gift with a purchase and it's pretty much identical to this one. I only use waterproof mascara, because my lashes will not stay curled otherwise. I have used the heated curler after applying mascara and I've actually been quite satisfied with the results, and the curl actually stayed put very nicely. I find that it gives a much better result if you use it after mascara, or at least after the first coat. And the Sephora one heats nicely after about a minute and it takes very little time to curl the lashes. It definitely takes me less time than it does with a traditional eyelash curler.

Do you just touch it with the flame for a second or two? It seems like it would get scalding hot that way. I'm one of those folks who perpetually pinches their lids trying to use an eyelash curler, so I might be over skittish. I usually just blast it with my hair dryer for a few seconds. With the diffuser on, it's pretty much impossible to get it hot enough to burn you but warm enough to give the curl extra umph.
@hannakayy
@hannakayy 10 лет назад
TheTekaranlady I just hold it an inch or two away from the curler for maybe 5 seconds and then give it a second or two to cool off before using it. I've never burned myself and it works great!

Hanna Kunkel I've also heard of people using a hair dryer on the curler and even storing the curler in their cleavage while they do the rest of their makeup so that it is warm for use. lol. Whatever works!!
@katinicole1945
@katinicole1945 10 лет назад
Emily Myrick i do the hairdrier method and it works nicely :) usually I'm doing my hair and makeup at the same time and i blast my lashes on cool before applying mascara. yes, they are good at holding a curl, but for an extra oomph that doesn't cost me any money, that weird trick works pretty well :)

It slightly melts the mascara and then you can push the lashes up. That's how I use mine and it looks pretty. You can clean it with an alcohol wipe thing.
@leighannsays
@leighannsays 10 лет назад
that makes sense. im just concerned because my routine is curl + waterproof + other mascara^9000 so i dont think it would work for me to curl after mascara. idk. my brain refuses to process that.
@beckypcunningham
@beckypcunningham 10 лет назад
I see it as the mascara as a hold spray and the curler helps it shape and set. .. if that made sense lol

Walmart has one in the nail implement section for $8 if anyone wants to try it. I was all excited with the concept, but had the same results. Worked okay but not great. It does work better if it has more time to heat up (about a minute or so). The Walmart one didn't have a brand on it and I don't have the packaging anymore. One bonus was that putting the cap on turns the curler off so you don't accidentally kill the battery. Thanks for the review!

Agreed. I have a heated lash curler in another brand (and I think they're basically all the same), but yeah, on its own, it doesn't curl enough at all. When I do use it (which is rare because I don't want to go through the extra steps), I use a traditional curler first, and then run the heated curler through my lashes to heat set the curl and kind of smooth out the kinks. I've tried using the heated curler after mascara and I don't recommend it, because the heat ends up melting your mascara and makes everything messy.

I bought one of these heated eyelash curlers a month ago and I agree, they don't give the curl we all want. Until someone invents something better that actually works, I will stick with the regular curler. I have actually gotten great results from setting the curler on my curling iron for about 20 seconds (hold the top metal edge of the eyelash curler to the barrel of the iron), getting it hot but not hot enough to burn my eyelids off, lol. This has given me the best curl I've ever had so far, and of course that waterproof mascara is also important, it has the staying power regular mascara doesn't.
@AZOrchid
@AZOrchid 10 лет назад
They make "traditional" curlers that are heated as well, with those, you don't have to clamp down as hard on your lashes because the heat helps it curl easier (thus avoiding the harsh un-natural looking curl) Try one like that and I bet you will like it.
@lynseyretzlaff9578
@lynseyretzlaff9578 10 лет назад
Do it this way: curl with regularly curler and then use waterproof mascara. Use the heater curler by starting at the root and wiggling it back and forth before moving it to the tips of your lashes. Wiggling it allows the lashes to get in between the guard and be heated. The heated curler really helps to get the outside lashes curled when the regular curler can't reach them. I always finish off with another coat of mascara. My heated curler has never been clumpy doing it this way. (I learned this from a pro makeup artist video on youtube) Hope it helps!

Hey Leighann! I love your videos! Here's a tip I found on Pinterest! Before curling your lashes heat up your eyelash curler with a hair dryer for a few seconds (make sure you wait a second or touch it to make sure it's not burning hot before putting it right to your face--trust!!!!) I found that works great for me it makes the lashes curl faster and hold the curl for longer. I also curl my lashes a few times so they aren't like L they're more like C shaped... do you know what I mean? Like not so blunt and straight and kinked they're more curved and natural looking I guess. I start right at the base of the lash and curl there the most then work my way to the ends of the lashes curling as I go holding it for less time. I wear glasses so my lashes touch my glasses if I don't curl them, it's super annoying. Anyway just wanted to share my tips with you! I love watching your videos you're so entertaining I love it haha keep it up girl! -Ariel

My eyelashes are pin straight and point downward, so I was very intrigued about using a heated eyelash curler. I ordered one from Amazon that cost about $7.00 This is how I use mine with great results: 1. I curl my bare lashes with a regular eyelash curler 2. I use my favorite mascara and wait for it to dry 3. I then use a waterproof mascara to help hold the curl over my regular mascara 4. Once the waterproof mascara has dried, I then use my heated eyelash curler and go over every lash. For me it works great. Yes a tiny bit of mascara might melt off onto the heater, but I just wipe it off with an alcohol pad before I put it away. I love my results and it lasts a long time.

I got one at Walmart (forgot what brand) it was less than $10. I found it works best with waterproof mascara first, curling as it is drying. I also turn the wand --not "combing". As for cleaning I use an old eyebrow brush. I love mine and have been using it for about 2 years now.

I have found that if breath on my lash curler or heat it up just a bit with a blow dryer, the result is much better. I guess it's the heat they were after. I had the same problem with like an edge on the lashes before I started doing this and it really works! Try it! :)

There is another type of heated eyelash curler that is available that looks like a traditional eyelash curler but is heated. They are amazing. I had one for years and it did wonders for my eye lashes. Sadly on my last trip, the battery in it leaked and I had to trash it. I am planning on buying another one soon. I find them at stores that sell Asian beauty products. It might help you.

Use it after mascara. The mascara helps to lock in the curl more strongly. When you're mid lash or where you want the curl to be, hold the heated curler with the lashes pushed up for a few seconds longer and then comb through to tips. Just don't use this with tubing mascaras as the heat melts the mascara. The Korean versions of this product tend to have an open coil so it's a little scary when you first try but lashes are exposed to more heat so it curls even more effectively than this version.

I've heard from a few people who have/had the Dior heated lash curler that it works much better after putting your mascara on... which I guess it is good that it works for them, but it does seem to melt the mascara so maybe that is better for people who like clumpier lashes? No idea

It works great when you use mascara first. The mascara actually then works like a setting spray. The mascara does get inside the grooves, but it comes right off using a makeup wipe. Then you're not stuck using waterproof mascara. I have lashes that are like yours, no curl at all whatsoever.

The wand works better if you roll it in toward your eyelid slightly as you comb through your lashes. If you would like more curl at the tips just roll the wand toward your eyelid a bit more and press down slightly.

I have a heated lash curler from Sephora. It melts most mascaras I use it with, BUT if I use after applying Loreal Carbon Black Waterproof Mascara it curls without removing the mascara. Also, have you ever tried placing a traditional curler at the base of your lashes and slowly pulling down?

I've got heated eyelash curler for a few years and I love it :) I ended up using it the same as you along with the regular curler. The regular curler lifts the eyelashes up and the heated one creates very nice natural curl :) that's the only way my eyelashes stay curled for the whole day because if I used only the traditional curler, even the waterproof mascara doesn't help and the lashes fall a bit at the end of the day

Have you ever used a spoon to curl your lashes? Mine are similar to yours and I've never liked the angled look the traditional eyelash curler gives. There's probably a few different ways to use the spoon, I've seen a few on RU-vid. It's an old school tip, but maybe you can check it out. It leaves my lashes with a very upright and rounded curl. And yes, waterproof is a MUST! High-5 to that!

have you ever tried heating the traditional eyelash curler with your hair dryer? i've done it once and it really works. for my lashes it was just too much, i was trying the water proof mascara, and using it with the eyelash curler itself was enough, but again, my lashes are regular lashes, idk if it is understandable. but if you hold you hair dryer for 3 seconds onto the eyelash curler, then wait just 3 more seconds to use it (i would recommend to use it not too close to the eyelid, just because it can be hot or it can turn out like a 90 degree lash, not at all natural which i'm sure is not what you're looking for) leave it for not long time, because the heat itself will do the work and take it out, the outcome is truly amazing. hope you try it and tell me how it went! love your videos love yamila

I don't know if this will help, but I use a really unconventional method to curl my lashes because I hate the 90° angle that I get with the curlers. I use a spoon and get really naturally curled lashes just focusing in the base of the lashes to lift them up. It might sound crazy, but it has worked for me. Have you tried it yet?? BTW love your videos!!

I have a Panasonic one, and use it after mascara. It separates any clumps and strengthens the curl of my lashes that way. Afterwards I just wipe it with a cotton pad soaked in alcohol and all the mascara residues are off. Also mine has a colored indicator showing that it's on and heated enough (or not). Like you said, all these extra steps are time-consuming so I don't use it everyday, but for special occasions, it does work for me. :-)

Heat your eyelash curler with a lighter. Just the top part not the rubber and let it cool without getting cold. Then curl. It will last even after you remove your mascara with eye makeup remover. Doesn't damage your lashes, I've used this tip for over 10 years.

Your lashes do look much more natural in this video! I wonder if there are any other products like this one with better results? And instructions lol

I find when I've used a heated lash curler (different brand to yours) the curl has stayed alllll day which is what I loved the most. My lashes are straight but not as straight as yours so it didn't take me long to create a good curly curl either, didn't have to use another lash curler or they'd be curling back on themselves haha

YOU NEED TO USE IT WITH MASCARA OF ANY KIND ALREADY APPLIED. THATS KIND OF THE POINT. I can tell you as a makeup artist that it is an awesome product. When used with mascara, it ever so slightly melts the mascara as it curls and then within seconds the mascara dries, HOLDING THE CURL BETTER. I love you Leighann, but don't just say that something wont ever work if you haven't tried it. Do it full out. This product can also be easily cleaned with a disposable mascara spoolie.

I think the directions are on the back of the box, not very detailed, but they are there. Also, the brush works best after applying a coat of mascara. If you use it on bare lashes, you really won't see results. I used it after one coat of mascara and saw very good results.

What kind of waterproof mascara do you use? I've struggled to find one that is really waterproof. Many mascaras claim to be waterproof, but the minute I put it on, my lashes lose the curl. Help!

I have lashes like yours that don't stay curled I also don't use waterproof mascara but I should try it. What I do different to get a curl to my lashes is heat up my lash curler with a blow dryer I of course test the temperature before putting it to my eye but it's like the same concept as the heated lash curler maybe you could try that and then the waterproof mascara will hold it:) loved the review now I'm gonna try waterproof mascara with my technique!

Ooh, what eyeshadow are you wearing across your lid ? I would probably manage to burn my eye ball or something. As for a frightening beauty product ? Probably the traditional eye lash curler or the first time someone else had put eyeliner on me.

Wow finally somebody who understands my waterproof mascara obsession! My lashes stick downwards almost and I have to use the traditional curler for 5 minutes. Regular mascara makes the curl die in one minute!

Just like heat damages your hair, would this damage your eyelashes because I saw it today and I was gonna pick it up but I was scared it'll damage my eyelashes somehow...

I have this exact same lash curler and I like it, I did get mine on clearance though, original price for it is wayyyy too much especially when you can get the salon perfect one at walmart for under $5 and it is literally the same EXACT product, just in the color black. And I feel my salon perfect one does a way better job because it does get more heated then the japonesque one. I hope this helps anyone looking into getting a heated lah curler! :)

I use a regular eye lash curler but before I use it I turn on my blow dryer on high heat put my lash curler in front of of the blow dryer for 4-5 seconds and curl my lashes i follow that up with waterproof mascara and it seriously keeps my stick straight lashes curled all day, and I like the effect it gives better than regular heated lash curlers, I hope that made sense haha! You should try it if you want to! Love you're videos keep it real leighann xoxo alex☆

If you turn/rotate the eyelash curler while curling you get a better more dramatic curl.

Try wiggling the eye curler and "pulling" it a bit out and up when curling your eye lashes.. That takes away the weird angles It's looks the most natural when I do that. *lol hope you understood that

Goss Makeup artist has a sort of recent video about curling your lashes. ( not the one about the water proof mascara) The technique produces a similar curl to what you have going on in this video. I have Snuffleupagus eyelashes too, and using the technique he talks about and water proof mascara has changed my life! It wont let me link his video for some reason, but you should check it out!

I have the same kind of lashes like you do and my secret to make them look natural is to curl them with a traditional curler like normal and then curl them with the edge of a spoon. Yup, a spoon. The concept is to curl them as if you're curling a ribbon, like for a present, you know with a blade of the scissors, does that make sense? probably not. This is like a tip that most Hispanic women do, at least most if not all of the ones I know, swear by this trick. Anyway, that's what I do and I always have to use waterproof mascara too to hold my curl, twinsies! 😉
