Omg how much these videos help me! Love the MK3 series, have one myself and was always terrified of the heater matrix getting a leak. Thought the dashboard needs to come out. Now, it seems like a chill summer afternoon job . :) Thx Alan for all the videos you make!
Have 5 mk3s at the moment. Have had over 20 altogether and can't see past them. Don't think there's a nut or bolt I haven't had apart on these now, that said I've never done a heater matrix lol. Awesome work as always 👏
Another excellent well illustrated video Alan. 👍 The last one i done, you did have to take all the dash out. It was on my Citroen ZX. What a nightmare. It's an all day job. Imagine doing it for a customer charging 8 hrs labour. I had to do it twice though because the Ally Replacement didn't last a year so in the end i got a Copper & Brass one from 'Colchester Radiators' . It was like driving around in a Steam room/Sauna 😂🤣😅
Indeed, I did the same job on my MK2 Focus and it was an absolute nightmare compared to the MK3 Mondy. a full dashboard out job. Cracking vid from Alan as usual!
Thanks Alan good video, I thought not a bad job to do , I use to have a Mondeo saloon, and something went wrong with the cooling system, I was told it needed head gasket, so I decided to get rid of the car , it was good while it lasted,
I once did a heater matrix on a Peugeot 204 about 45 years ago. It scarred me for life 😂. Wonderful little car though. Ford have clearly thought about that job as not having to take the dash out makes all the difference. I'd honestly have rejected that Hyundai to work on. I got a flea infestation working in a house once.....not that far north of you in Fenland....yeuk !!
Hi Alan, my Mk3 2001 Mondeo I’ve owned for 21 years is loosing a small amount of water and inside the car I have that slight odour of antifreeze. I’ve watched your excellent video and feel confident I can replace my matrix but I do suffer with a bad back. My question is can you reach the hose clips that go onto the matrix pipes from inside the engine bay if they need turning or would the car need to be jacked up and accessed underneath? Thanks Paul
hi paul, yes you can the hose clips from under the bonnet with the right type of pliers but it would be a struggle.. they are set back in an awkward place but can be done
I just replaced the thermostat housing on my 1.3 Rocam Fiesta. The plastic disintegrated in my hand and pieces of the connector stuck in the heating pipe. 😅 I can’t believe how could I drive like this for months. Russian roulette. 😂 I hope don’t need to suffer this too. That tray is awesome feature to keep the coolant out of the carpet.
Good video Alan alway enjoying watching your videos I got mk3 Mondeo 2.0 tdci done 58000 late registered on 09 plate. Is heater rad in same place on 2.0 tdci ? Thanks
Hi Alan, I was looking for some Advice on the 2017 2.0 diesel 6 speed manual. Someone I know has a mk5 that has just hit 100k millage and he has been getting a noise from the gearbox. He has taken it to a garage and they think that he needs a new gearbox because of a bearing failure. Is this something you have come across with your mk5 mondeos or is possibly cheaper than a new gearbox?
bearing failure is not common on the mk5 6 speed boxes, you would be best getting it checked by a gearbox specialist... they are easy to rebuild but depends what the price of a good used one is if you do need a new box
@alan4x Thats good to know thank you. Mine is sitting on 75k so I thought I'd see if it's something to expect at 100k. Fingers crossed the gearbox stays healthy 🤞
Talking of Mondeo heaters, why did the climate on Mk3s not work as it should? My Mk4 has the same issue. If it's too cold you have to turn the heat all the way up to kick the system into blowing warm air. Then when it's too hot you have to drop it down to under say 18 to get it to lower temperature. No middle ground. Is it because some of the mechanism jams up? (I'm sure on my mk3 I had a fun issue others have said where it seemed to blow cold air when you turned left lol)
@@alan4x cheers Alan and just enjoyed your car show walk round with Kevin have to say you two pitch it perfectly, always easy viewing. Anyway I working not far from you this week as it turns out.
None of the aftermarket heater matrix’s and radiators I have been given to fit in the past were an exact fit. There always seems to be some degree of ‘adjustment’ required or foregoing a screw as the fixing point is nowhere near.
I had an 09 Volvo s40 few years ago the AC was pissing out under the dash. I got quoted £1000 and 3 days labour because there is two big long bolts across the dash and the doors had to come off to get them out
there are quite a number of cars that involve removing the front doors to remove the heater rad..i sure the heater unit and facia are removed as one assembly
The heater hose in my vehicle burst, isn't it the same for manual transmission vehicles? The design is more or less the same as the one I see in the photo.
where is the actuator motor for the heater mixer? my air con is stuck and i wont get any hot air with the ac on.... i havnt found any video which shows where the HVAC mixer motor is located
eeee when i were a lad we could do cortina 3-5 before your tea went cold. these days the heater seems to be the first thing to be put in, a friend wanted me to do one on a range rover, i declined his offer, he was still at it a couple of weeks later, water also got into an ECU under the seats...it did not end well
Good video, not a common issue , a sigh of relief it’s not a dash out job, I know the mk2 focus is a dash our job for heater unit. Sounds just like my petrol Mondeo running, sounds nice and normal 😅
Bloody hell, Al....the warranty on that Hyundai GK must be about 25 years if it's got in that state since it was sold. The only kind of hoovering a woman is good at is hoovering out her ex-husband's bank account. Thanks for another cracking vid 😎👍
Jolly good ol chap, all is now hunky dory and not what, BUT ! refraining from throwing the old knackered rad in the bin like a discus thrower while shouting yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa sadly leaves me with the impression, that you.are.growing.up 😓 sigh
