This "lollipop" hike goes up to an alpine lake and around it. I did this hike in early July and wildflowers were just starting to bloom around the lake. This is a very popular hike, so try to go early and/or on a weekday. I started this hike about 7:30am on a Saturday and it was pretty peaceful going up, but coming back down it was like going the wrong way through a parade.
This trail is often more stream than trail, but it was fairly dry this time. There were some muddy stretches, and a few places where flowing water crossed the trail, but nothing deep at all. There are a lot of really rooty areas and some rocks to navigate as well. There is a ton of flagging out there marking all the improvements that are planned - it's going to be amazing when all of that work is complete.
The road to the trailhead has been a mess for years and just keeps getting worse - numerous very large potholes. A high clearance vehicle is strongly recommended, although I did see some sedans did make it.
