Emma best leave the garlic to dry fully spread out with small gap between each one before plaiting otherwise the wet stalks won't dry out and will rot the other ones, also keep close eye on your broccoli in this heat it can bolt to seed, better to harvest small then not at all, keep watering and in a week or so it should be ready
@lindahedley9049

They need to be fully dried out before you can plait the garlic

It looks like a sprouting broccoli. It has become popular at the farmer's market here in the US. It is smaller and very tender. Once you pick the center stalk, more stalks will sprout off the main stalk.

Emma, FYI your supposed to pull and twist the Rhubarb off to break it from root. Cutting is not good for the plant. 🌻

Hi, Emma, your Broccoli is your summer crop, sow now to get an autumn crop and sow cabbage and cauliflower in August for a spring cropping. Well done by the way 👏

You're supposed to wait until the garlic is completely dry before braiding. You risk it not drying out all the way.
@ChetsWife3
@ChetsWife3 3 месяца назад
Emma why are you cutting the rhubarb to harvest it? I live in the USA. We’ve had a beautiful harvest of rhubarb every year for the last 45 years by pulling it from the plant. Tugging on a stalk will cause it to break loose at the base of the stem. There will be healthy Re growth the same growing season. That may be the reason your plant is small and spindly. Good luck and keep trying new methods. I believe gardening is a continuing experiment. ❤

You need to undo your plait. The dampness will encourage rot to set in. You need to let it completely dry out before plaiting

Think you are meant to leave the garlic dry before platting it Emma. It needs to be dry otherwise rot will set as parts of the stems can't dry out. That rot with then spread down to the bulbs.

Emma, please use a fork or trowel to loosen soil before pulling your garlic, let the leave dry completely and ho brown before plaiting them. Great crop though.

Can’t beat that freshly harvested garlic smell. Next time use a trowel to lift them up. They will store better if they aren’t damaged by dragging them out x

Emma don’t snap the bind weed if you gently dig an inch or two into the ground you can find the stem it grows from. Snapping it off promotes new growth in other areas. Cut the broccoli off and eat it, the little ones will grow. Any broccoli or cauliflower is the start of flower of the plant if you leave it it will flower blossoms then it will seed and die.

Oh Emma, we are not having a heatwave in the UK. Scotland is cold and windy and I think the North of England isn’t too much better 🥴. I wish I had even half of your sun just now up here. 🥺

Always lovely seeing your vlogs!! Yes, that broccoli needs picked likely - when the head gets "loose" it's about to flower. Cauliflower might have more time - particularly since less slugs out right now with the heat. So awesome - I love finding surprises to harvest!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Great garlic too! 🧄🧄🧄❤

Pick your broccoli Emma from the top Emma then from sides of plant also fold over leafs of your cauliflower or it will go to seed. Don’t cut rhubarb you pull it. Also you will need to leave your rhubarb for a year now that you have moved it at the wrong time x😢

Broccoli is so high up - I'd cut it and bring home before it starts flower. As for cauliflower - those heads need darkness to get ready. That are only leaves that need sun, but heads need darkness - that's why it is growing so big leaves so you have an opportunity to take care of them - just tie 🪢 those leaves above the head to protect them from getting yellow and yacky. Obviously you tie them in a way that they have room to grow bigg enough and then check them every few days if they are.

Rhubarb leaves would get off at this time of year anyways. Give him quite a bit of feeding - your nettle tea would do the best for the rest of summer. And in the autumn you may give him some bonemeal and compost. Then it might be just fine for next spring. 13:42 But please do NOT cut it with scissors - rhubarb leaves need to be twist and pull. Otherwise infection can get easily in.
@Tamsins_Potager

The garlic plants where most if not all of the leaves are dried up will be rotted in the ground. Only about the lower half of the leaves should be dried. When you were pulling up those where the top half of the leaves were still green, the bulbs were intact.🧄

FYI, that garlic plait might work, but you may find that some garlic falls out as it shrinks a dries. Usually, people plait garlic and onions between two strands of string. They make a loop with a piece of string and then plait the garlic between the loop. 🤙🏻👍🏻
