Had the pleasure of being Heatwave's booking agent. They were great to deal with - and lead singer Johnny Wilder was just the best !!! A true gentleman and great performer.
I got married when this came out. I have a wonderful man. We are still married today after 45 years. Thank you Jesus and my dear Mother who told me that he was the one.❤💕 ..
Johnny Wilder was a beast, that man voice was incredible. The different keys he took his voice was amazing. He is definitely in my top 10 as one of the best R&B singers of all time. RIP Johnny!
This music gives me so many great memories of my teenage years. No matter how many times I hear these songs , they just sound so fresh. The 70's and 80's were musically uplifting. I share all these fabulous tunes with my children who also find the same happiness from them as I did.
Heatwave is one of my favorite bands.Unsung and very underrated. The songwriting of Rod Temperton and the smooth silky vocals of Johnny Wilder were magic
Was jamming to this hit and album back in 1978 Baltimore Md. We are still playing this tune at BBQ cookouts over the grille with a cool conversation of laughter at the picnic table full of hot steamy crabs, Md style !
1978....This tickled me because in 1978 I was 2 years old. My mother had amazing musical taste so I grew up with the likes of the these gentlemen, Chilites, The Delfonics and Ray, Goodman and Brown, etc. Anytime one of these songs gets stuck in my head I head straight to RU-vid. So grateful that there is a vehicle for recording and keeping this kind of music alive.
@@DPaulHeard Till Stacey Latisaw "STOLE IT" as they said and one day they went to sing it at one of their concerts and said that was the day they knew they had to pass that song to the new generation!!!! LoL
I just felt a little nostalgic today and thought I’d go back to my high school days and listen to me some Heatwave. I remember when this song came out. This group had some great songs…definitely “ mind blowing “ this is music that will out last time. This sounded good in the 70’s and still sounding good today in 2022…Old School Forever!!!!💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
to all the young ones who conjure great memories of their loved ones, when they hear this song ... I extend my personal condolences to you. I'm one of the older ones from that generation who's still around - so, I feel your pain. big-time. glad we've got youtube to be able to share all these great songs and memories - it REALLY WAS A GREAT TIME TO BE YOUNG AND BLACK - the music was definitely geared toward the young soul folks of America - and we certainly embraced it. but, it's still feels good to current generations, no matter what creed or race, this is just great soulful music. thanks HEATWAVE, and RIP to the brothers who created this magnificent music. Dayton, Ohio-STRONG!
Listen to the abundance of countermelodic harmonic arrangements on this song. Beautiful and so creative. This is one of the reasons why this song is so timeless. Everyone will focus on the lyrics and they are great but this is vocal masterpiece.
Heatwave reminds me being a kid in the late 70s.. watching my family groovin to all the Soul, R&B and disco music of the days... seem like happy times to me. miss those days
Wow! We lost Johnny Wilder; the keyboardist/songwriter Rod Temperton; now we lost brother Keith. Thanks for the great music. May all 3 of you Rest In Peace.🕊🎶
This was one of my 8-track my dad bought me for Christmas to go along with my 8-track player.... MEMORIES......miss you Dad thanks for all you did for us .... love you always
you can't tell me that those day's weren't the best time for smooth records like this. i was 17 when this came out, i thuoght this was the smoothest shit out.
I bought Heatwave in the latter part of the summer ‘Too hot to handle.’ And of course it was eight track. One oldest brother by 5 years and I drove cross country from Oklahoma to Los Angeles in a 1965 Ford F 100 tan with short wide bed with a camper attached.. We slept on that camper and they were real popular back then on trucks. Well once we got to LA we picked my older brother by 6 years and we went down through Old Mexico playing Boogie Nights by Heat Wave and Low Down by Boz Skaggs. Then we headed back to Oklahoma stopping in Phoenix partying there and NewMexico.. All the while we’re playing Heat Wave. That brother Wilder and one of smoothest voices and he would go up an octave and it was all so angelic like.. Tragedy struck those beautiful Wilder brothers but they left us with some incredible music along with the incredible creator Rod Timperton. Rest In Peace fellows.. LB November 2021
Katrina Barr::::::::Sorry for your lost But always remember him with this kind of music that you wer lucky enough to have that about your dad.My respect and bless you both.
A very nice tune written by Johnnie Wilder, Jr...although many may easily think it's another Rod Temperton tune- because it definitely has Rod's smoothness written all over it!!!
Hey Stewart, you’re a lucky guy just like me. I grew up with an older brother/sister and always heard their smooth jams. Now I can appreciate awesome music from multiple decades. And as good as some modern stuff is...always find myself drifting back to 70s/80s classics. Glad I was raised right on jams like this.
Good catch! Yes it is the same Rod Temperton. Temperton is from Europe. Quincy spotted him, brought him to America and he wrote for Quincy, MJ and many others.

Great for you kid, and I'm sure you're dad is happy and proud, but also, please realise the world of music is your oyster, literally, deciding what is good music out there involves mind blowing decisions, that cause head on collisions! Every genre/artist has something to add to your palate, so do explore. Here's to us and music
That doorbell sound that keeps on playing and that harmony that starts at 6:40 makes me wanna go and pack my bags and go very far away and never come back... It's beautiful!!
This song is so nostalgic for me. Summer pool parties and coming of age...unrequited love crushes. Things always seemed to work out for the best...one way or another. Life must go on. Sigh....😀

I never heard that part after 4:00. We used to sing this song back when it came out. Used LP. Must be a UK thing. I like it. Very smooth like good reggae is. Like a slug of aged rum. Thank you Uplander for choosing UTBe
