I would imagine you have tried this. I would assume the width of the cutter blade is causing the glue strip to pull on the pages it is still attached to so causing the angled cut, especially on thick books with slippery pages. I would try making one cut to to remove the glue so tat all the pages are free, then realign the book and make another cut. On the second cut I would expect the cut to be straight.

Hi Thinking Ahead. I apologize for the extremely late response. I have tried the double cutting to take away that angle cut. But I didn't consider that the glue might be causing the pages to pull at an angle. Interesting. Two problems I ran into, though: The margin is usually limited, so if I tried to cut multiple times, I risked needing more space to coil-bind the book after (which is what I do most times). Secondly, with my big math textbooks, the margins are generous, but once I cut the spine off, it was almost impossible to keep the pages from shifting in some manner, making it difficult to get a straight cut. But since it's something I often do, I am always open to new ideas. Thank you for both of your comments:) And for watching!

I enjoyed the video. I have been considering purchasing one of these cutters and have been watching different videos on them. Alignment was a consideration of mine and your video spelled that out pretty well. However, another RU-vidr seems to have fixed that problem and I will probably do the same when I buy one of these. She used double-sided tape and affixed a strip of fine sandpaper along the presser bar and below it on the bed as well.

Hi Johnny. I believe I found the video you referred to. What a great idea to keep the papers from shifting! Which is what makes the cuts slanted. The blade itself still needs to be aligned properly with the cutting stick to ensure cutting through everything. I appreciate you mentioning it and will have to give it a try. Thanks for checking out the video!

First of all, thank you very much for uploading these videos, they are very helpful to everyone. I was able to change the red mat and line up the press thanks to you. But I still have a problem: when I cut paper, the blade makes me an angle, like in the video, it doesn't cut straight and my books or sales notes don't fit well. Is there a way to align the blade so it cuts straight? The cuts are of a maximum of 150 sheets of paper and always come out at an angle.

Hi. Firstly, I am glad the videos helped:) Unfortunately, with all that I have tried thus far, the only two ways I have found to get a straighter cut is Reducing the size of my project I am cutting, if possible, and As I tried showing in the video, I ensure the book or papers are pushed well against the stop guard, especially from the bottom. That part is a bit frustrating. But as a heavy home-duty cutting machine that one can use from home, it still does a decent job. If I find any other way to improve my cuts when using it, I will share it on the channel. Thank you so much for watching!

Are there any tricks or tips on how to find where the blade meets the paper so we don’t over or under cut? Every time I cut I always do more and it’s becoming frustrating. Please help

Hi Ciari, I've been slower than usual in answering my comments. Whenever I am about to do a cut, I first open the book and look at the amount of margin I am working with and how thick the glued area is. Then I proceed to make sure that part is past the line on the cutting stick where the blade comes into contact with the stick. Doing this step before butting up the black adjustable fence to the edge of the pages usually results in better cuts. I will do a video on this as soon as I can. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

I stick a piece of scrap bookboard in between clamp and blade and measure from there. You can push the scrap piece onto your book and against the clamp to see it more accurately. Blade is a sixteenth to an eighth of an inch further than that

why don’t you do a double cut to make it straight after getting the edge off?

Hi. Great question. For my particular situation, I need to consider the margin. I did a recent video where I also addressed this and tried to do some more research and test cuts on the issue of cutting straight with this machine. This is the video here ----> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ucS7fAx-Zls.html Thank you for watching the above video and commenting! 🙂

@@MommyShareSpace I just bought this cutter i find that it’s near impossible to cut it straight in one go, what I do is cut the minimum possible then do a 2nd cut to cut it straight, what do you think?
@MommyShareSpace
@MommyShareSpace Год назад
Yeah, I found this works too especially with smaller items. Particularly 1\2 Inch and below. For books more significant than that, the cut will improve but will still create a slant. I showed this in this video here ----> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ucS7fAx-Zls.html

Hi Cristiano Satiro Vitorio, Sorry you're having problems with your machine. Also, that I am now responding to your comment. I have tried many different cuts with my machine to achieve a perfectly straight cut. After all my trying, this is my opinion: This is a great heavy-duty machine to be used at home. And as that, it performs excellently. However, I cannot get industrial-like cuts on this machine for a few reasons I have observed. -The plastic stop works OK on smaller projects. However, with larger projects, some shifting seems inevitable. To counter this, I showed in the video what I have been doing that helps. -The sharp edge of the blade has a slight angle. Unless you can figure out how to counter that by positioning larger books in a countering position, the further away from the starting cutting point, the more noticeable that angle is in your cut. The blade does not have far to go with smaller projects, so it can appear much straighter. All of this is my assumption, of course. If my larger books are cut in a way that I am unhappy with, the only solution I have come up with is taking smaller parts of the book and straightening the edges. Either on this machine or a smaller handheld cutter. But those can only cut a few pages at a time. I rarely do, since my cuts are for personal use. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching! 😊
