Can really tell some people in the comments section have either never done on the road breakdown or they just always have all the tools. Sometimes things just arent around or you dont.have time. Lots of admiration for this bloke, quality operator. Personally, and im sure this got done but idve checked for where the waters coming from
This is very similar to how I change wheel seals, except I add a small amount of 90W in the hub recess before installing the outer bearing. You can also raise one side of the duals, and let the oil flow to the other side slowly after its put back together. I never cage the brakes, just release them from inside the cab. Good Videos!
Same here. It doesn't take long to fill the cavity with oil going down the road though, and with a small amount of oil like he did put on ,the bearing is probably not hurt at all. But I always fill the hub first anyway...
Thanks, I'm reassembling my first big truck axle and was confused about this. I'm restoring a 68 IH Loadstar with an RA-39 axle, so I appreciate your clarification.
I would only be presumptuous in asking if you found the underlying issue here. A bad wheel seal isn’t going to cause a big mix of rust and gear oil like that and I would hope you drained the diff and cleaned all components and fixed what I assume was most likely the vent or case leaking causing the water issue also wether it’s a “push in “ seal or not using a seal driver prevents uneven installation of a seal and would prevent that hammer from marring the edges of it as well . Not a bad install job but I would make any of my guys tear that back down and do it right before it rolled from my shop we maintain a fleet of 30 trucks and 20 mid sized to large excavation and a hand full of paving equipment. Taking the extra steps is what prevents unnecessary down time . Also cleaning the plate and surface around the s cam helps keep things from becoming contaminated like the shoes and rollers again aiding in longevity. Aside from that keep em rollin and keep the vids comin
Yeah, I did notice not a drop of oil came out of the hub when the axle was broke loose. Using a proper seal driver is ssssweet. Before stepped seals I have used an old type 30 brake pushrod. Always caged the brakes, I know it isn't going anywhere. Had a cheapo ratchet strap cut down. To hold shoes in place when installing last spring.
Actually, I am far from criticizing others, because I do not know the circumstances and objectives in detail. However, I winced a little when I see how oil seals are driven in or how the ABS increment can be reinstalled without cleaning. The S-cam of the brake was also installed dry and uncleaned with new rollers. Hm ... that shown leaves an ambivalent impression on me. On the one hand, I like this channel very, very much because it shows things from real everyday life and from a professional perspective. On the other hand, some of the methods shown here are just too ... how should I put it, casual? Anyway or thumbs up for this channel and especially this film! 👍
Is showtime New brakes shoes, with hardware kit, new oil bath seals, Axle gasket, and bearings too. I love my job I love when my hands get a greasy oh yeah baby Nice video dude 👍👍👍
Ahh fun times! I worked as a Mechanic's Assistant (GoFer) from when I was 16- 19 years old. Quite when I joined the Army in '83. Done this a few times, then have it inspected. I don't hear the banter with the other mechanics... miss that.
@@SemiWorkin I'm working on a scale model of a KW W925 to make it very similar to the Movin' On truck from the mid 70s. (Aftermarket Cummins VT 903 with an Eaton 13 speed. Both are different than the ones that are in the kit.) I'm following now and look forward to seeing your content!
This is a Spicer Dana axle housing without the axle stud wedges , easily removable . Maintenance council has a recommended procedure to tighten wheel bearings on the double nut assembly with a torque wrench and back off .
Want to really see some heavy duty brakes. Change some on a rescue fire truck. Mountain brakes. The drums have fins and are heavy as hell. The shoes have pins that have snap rings to hold them in. Lol
Good but you must clean well the whole surface for you to be able to inspect well in future when the heat builds up it will melt that oil mixture oil and dust...but it's a good job.
Love ur videos as it is educational program for the young youths.. but let us teach them the right thing as I would never put it on without a good clean all them oil and grease also show them how to check for damages..
Not sure if diesel guys flat rate but if they do, how much would this job pay? If you're fleet, about how much time would you be given to get this job done?
I remember the old manual adjust slacks around 20 yrs ago- that was part of a pre-trip inspection & always had a brake or 2 to adjust or the chicken coup bears would swat U down. Lol 😁
At work its hard to get perspective on doing installs of any procedure. The supervisors aren't mechanics, so doing a real good job is not the standpoint at allot of these big companies.
And magically just like that, it’s clean! Wow I need to learn that trick! Also them brake shoes must be the magic pixie dust ones that are self adjusting! LOL
