Heavy Equipment Bushing Removal

This is the easiest way to remove bushings out of your mini excavator, skid steer, dozer, etc. It is superior to trying to torch them out. Out of curiosity, I searched excavator bushing removal on youtube and did not see one where people were welding them out, so I decided to make a short video. Hopefully, someone learns something from this.

I've seen several people that could torch out those bushings and never touch the bore

Did the same thing to remove dry cylinder sleeves on a 318 Perkins 4-cylinder Diesel. Factory had special puller to remove, very difficult and expensive. Thanks for reminding me to also use it to remove bushings 👍

When you get to bigger machines and harder bushings, hydraulic power is needed. Nice video!

I went to a truck parts and tools store once to buy a puller to get a stuck bearing race out of a bore. It was really stuck, tried everything and almost all the edges were a puller might grab were chipped off so i decided with pain in my wallet to buy a dedicated bearing puller for this repair. And the good ones are expensive... I explained my problem and told the old man behind the counter i needed this tool. he said to me: "i can sell it to you right now for 200,- but ill know something better; you got a welder? Then go back to your shop, weld a circle around the inside and you will tap it out with ease" went back to the store a month later for some parts and sadly the old man passed away 3 weeks after my visit so i couldnt thank him anymore.

@@estephanyolmos255 the man was somewhere in his 80's, apparently he got sick and within a couple of days it was over. Thats all i know. And i think he was a great granddad indeed, when he passed away his children and grandchildren(who run the parts shop now) made a table in the shop with pictures, flowers, candles and a book were people could write their colondeances.(and there were lots of writings in the book)

Torching the bushings works fine, the bore dose not get hurt if you do it right. I cut the bushings on both sides in a couple minutes, no damage to the bore

Nice tip ... when you install new bushings do you freeze bushing and heat bore? Curious if you have any special techniques. Thanks for posting
@pardonwhat
@pardonwhat 2 года назад
In my experience freeze bush but don’t heat the eye, heating can tighten the hole and more importantly it defrosts the bush too fast (u might not jack a tight one in quick enough).

Thanks. Might I ask, what do you use to cut those bushings? I know they are generally pretty hard, and I would imagine that they could tear a carbide burr up pretty quick. To be honest, I don't have much time running a burr, I am just making an assumption.

How do you remove the lower boom pin
@tracnunya7165
@tracnunya7165 2 года назад
ok, i have disassembled my entire 580b backhoe, the main top pin and bushing were about 10 more minutes from eating into the metal past the bushing, the top pin has about 20% of the metal gone, deep gouge groove. tomorrow I attempt to get the main bushings out, they are 51.02mm ID x 63.5mm OD x 31.8mm L and 51.02mm ID x 63.5mm OD x 38.1mm L. I was going to try the weld all inside them to shrink using my mig. instead, i am going to try this method, and see how it goes. i have already tapped on them, and pressed a little bit with a home made rig, they are in there. will report back on how it goes.
@losrussets8945

I hope it works for you. Putting a couple beads wouldn't hurt anything if they don't come. I had one that basically fell out after I put 2 strings of weld.

hate when people badmouth others because you don't like their method. and metal expands when you heat it.
@losrussets8945
@losrussets8945 3 года назад
I wouldn't say that calling their methods inferior and calling them clowns is bad mouthing them. Maybe you should make a youtube video so I can critique every little thing that you say as well. Might as well make a comment about the grammer in your last sentence too. Maybe think about replacing the word and with also, it could potentially make you sound more intelligent. Also, sentences must start with capital letters. Surely you learned that in kindergarten.
@FleetTech97
@FleetTech97 2 года назад
Actually when you weld onto a bushing the weld actually makes the bushings shrink. If you were too heat it with a torch then yes it would expand. This is a proven method. We did this all the time on huge komatsu bulldozers. Only difference is our welders would literally weld circles through out the whole bushing. Then you go take a few hours to go so something else and when you come back they come out with very little force

@@losrussets8945 gee. seems like someone who calls people clowns is sensitive to being called a clown, your method doesn't work well on bigger thicker bushings, and if you get good with a torch splitting bushings is acceptable...big stuff can't always be transported to your little shed buttercup...
