Omgggggg!!!!! Unbelievable!!!!! While all this was transpiring, I was very deeply asleep on the third story of an apartment building a few metres away, on 227th Street. The building is 5-6 doors down from White Plains road and this fire occurred smack dab on the corner of 228th and White Plains Road. Before I fell asleep, I was feeling extremely hot and decided to open the bedroom window; which gives the view of White Plains Road, the #2 train track and passing trains and buildings spanning from 226th to 228th and White Plains Road. Now, I'm a fairly light sleeper; who suffers from severe migraine headaches and whenever I'm visiting there, I'm usually very easily awakened by passing vehicle, the motor cycles (dirt bikes and four wheelers) that the neighbours cause unfathomable disturbances with *AAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL DAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY LONGGGGGGGGGG* and the chugging of the #2 train, however, had it not been the ring of the doorbell, I wouldn't have a Blue's Clue what was taking place. A member of the household lost their keys recently and because of their working hours, have been unable to cut a new set, and for that reason, I am inclined to listen out for them, and it was their call for entry that made me discover what was going on. Until now, we're still puzzled as to *HOWWWWW* on God's green earth, I slept through the *EXTREMELY LOUD* sound of the helicopter that hovered ever so lowly for hours, the lights and sirens of the emergency vehicles, the loud talks/chatter of people gathered on the street and mostly; the *SUPER STRONGGGGG* smell of smoke in the air! 🤔 All of this I missed, with the window *WIIIIIDE OPEN!!!!!* My friend whose ring of the doorbell awakened and alerted me, is an EMT and he too, can't believe I slept through it all! Mind you, the nearby hydrant about four (4) doors away, across the street and another nearby one on White Plains Road, was used to out the blaze, so 227th was a blocked off from traffic and flooded with emergency vehicles. When I tell you chaos and confusion, believe you, me!!!!! As I jumped out of the bed, frightened; I ran to the entryway to buzz the person in and unlock to the door, and ig t wasn't until I reentered the room, that I noticed the unforgiving sounds of the hovering 'copter and the emergency lights beaming through the drawn curtains. Then I hopped onto the bed, shifted the curtain and took a look; and I saw government vehicles of all shapes, sizes and purpose and *VERY, VERY THICK SMOKE* in the air! Now, there are two elderly people who lives on the block, I've learned; one with a heart condition, and there is also another resident; who calls the ambulance several times a week, I'm told, so altogether, the ambulance is no novelty here. From my viewpoint, the smoke appeared to be coming from one of two places; either across the street, a few houses up (where the hydrant is) or on White Plains Road, by 228th Street. When I asked the individual who had just come home, he said it looks to be at 228th (he couldn't fully tell, as he came from the opposite direction of the fire, down the block, by 225th and also, because everywhere was blocked off. Even buses, he said, were parked on White Plains Roads and the drivers just standing, trying to make sense of what's going on. He said, that several news teams were out there). A few minutes later, he told me that he just saw on Instagram, that the bike shop was on fire. He went on to call his childhood friends and they all were saddened by the news, as the bible shop has been around for many decades. He and his friends shared stories of being young and visiting the shop to repair their bicycles! He exclaimed how shocked to see that the proprietor was *STILL ALIVE* when he went to purchase his daughter's bike, about seven (7) years ago. I have passed by that shop and transacted business in nearby businesses countless times, but I've never had the need to go there or to meet the nice, decent, hardworking, dedicated owner. I sincerely hope he had insurance. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this great misfortune. ❤🙏🏾
