Heavy Fretless Rock Bass with Jack Irons on Drums 

Here’s a fun heavy fretless bass jam with the mighty Jack Irons! He’s the founding drummer of RHCP and former member of Pearl Jam and Eleven. We’ve been recording some music and thought it’d be fun to shoot videos jamming to each other’s grooves, here’s an experimental rock tune we came up with!
I’m playing my fretless Cortex bass and used 5 pedals in this take: a Seamoon FX Grind Machine overdrive and Octatron octaver, a Walrus Audio D1 Delay, a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor and a Rodenberg 707b clean booster. I’m using Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings, Monster Bass cables, and recorded with my Eich T-1000 amp’s DI into a Focusrite Scarlett into my laptop. I’m stepping the pedals real-time and didn’t use any plugins or post processing. I mixed my take and Jack’s drum mixdown in Cubase and mastered it with Ozone.
Jack plays his custom Masters of Maple drums, Evans drum heads, Zildjian cymbals and Vic Firth sticks. He recorded his drum take in Luna using Apollo interfaces. Besides Jack’s major bands he’s been releasing great solo records over the years, the amazing drum sound is recorded, mixed, and engineered by Jack himself.
