I saw heavy metal 31 years ago when I was ten years old on Cinemax with other cool R rated adult animation movies like hey good Lookin, American pop and vampire hunter d (remember those 3 movies?) along with my moms former boyfriend Herman rented Pink Floyd the wall were the first r rated adult animation movies I saw as a kid and became faves. I even saw it in tbs and tnt when I was 11 12 and 13 and saw the 96 reissue in Albuquerque which is 34 minutes from here in Belen with my 19 year old brother and got the vhs and cd soundtrack on my 14th birthday, I even bought the dvd in 2001 then blu in 2011 and last year the ultrahd 4k. One of m favorite animated films and fantasy films and anthology movies. I did saw pg rated adult animation as a kid prior to 92 like wizards, watership down, rock and rule, plague dogs, twice upon a time, fire and ice and lord of the rings 1978 and warriors of the wind aka nausicaa. I even saw Roger rabbit in theaters three times when I was six. Can you believe I watched this movie when I was 10? I was way too young to watch this movie but I did anyway. I mean seeing all that animated nudity and adult situations in an animated movie was nothing like it I ever saw as a kid, the film had graphic violence too but I did saw animated graphic violence before in watership down, plague dogs, fire and ice and wizards and on itchy and scratchy on Simpsons to aeon flux shorts on liquid television. And I had seen drug use in an animated movie before with rock and rule.

Aside from the very limited LP release not commonly available, it was never sold in stores and is one of those limited CD soundtracks that took years to be released by Film Score Monthly (Screen Archives) which is out of print now, but was available on soundtrack specialist websites and can still be found on eBay for high prices. The only 'Heavy Metal' soundtrack release at the time in 1981 was the double-LP rock music compilation album without Elmer Bernstein's orchestral score and that rock release was later available on CD, but still not the orchestral score. Both soundtracks are great and are worth owning. :)
