His solo at the end here is really something. I did not know Jeff was already getting these sounds from his guitar and amps as early as '69. His guitar playing soars. Saw him for the first time at Gaelic Park in the Bronx, Aug of '72, and I knew. I knew I had never heard anyone play anything like this. And it is true, as displayed here, you really had to see Jeff Beck play live to get the full measure of his genius talents. Can't believe he's gone. Can't believe it.

I was at the Gaelic Proark show too, amazing show ...... I thought the crowd was going to tear the place apart when Jeff's arrival was delayed due to a traffic accident....... Jeff, Tim Bogert, Carmine Apice and a singer named Kim Milford...... the crowd went absolutely Nutz, I remember that after that show my wife and I became instant fans and we saw almost every show after that whenever Jeff came to America, I would attend at least one show per tour ......... I'm still shaken to the core as a result of his death and I will forever be greatful to have seen him in action. R.I.P. Sir Jeff !!!!

@@johnzane4610 It wound up being a good thing for us that Beck was late in getting there, because my older brothers friend wound up ingesting some bad hallucinogen he'd bought there and wound up at Beth Israel. They released him with us and we hurried back to the concert really just as Beck and Co were taking the stage. I think that was the first occasion of him playing with Bogart and Appice. I seem to recall he played a white Strat and at one point set it down in front of him and proceeded to get some otherwordly sounds from it. Didn't care too much for the singer. Did get to see Argent and I think another band called Flash if I recall correctly. Beck was doing things with his guitar and getting sounds that I hadn't heard on any of his records. I was 16 at the time. Told all of my friends about it and like you began to look for every opportunity to see him play. At that time he had a big impact on my life and I have to be thankful to him for that. As I said, really can't believe he's gone. thanks for sharing your story.

I was at this show, had up front seating on the left of the theater. Rod Stewart was positioned on that side if the stage, almost isolated. I remember watching him the whole set, mostly because he was singing, and directly in front of me. Yeah, tickets at the Fillmore East were $3 - about what I could afford as a 17 year old kid. I remember the stage having a weird empty feeling (compared to the many other shows I saw there).

I remember taking the subway that Friday night to the Fillmore and buying a ticket in the last row. I walked up to the first row, saw an empty seat and watched Joe Cocker, I think NRBQ and Jeff Beck! I paid about $3! Still have the program.I remember Beck giving the finger to the audience. Rod Strwart was very shy. They were fantastic! So cool! lol Those days are sadly gone

Yes! I was at that show, too! Amazing you still have the program. I was in the front too, way off to the left. I remember Rod Stewart sort of weirdly isolated from the band, he was on the left side, directly in front of me, not in the middle of the stage where most singers are usually positioned. The Fillmore always felt like a high school auditorium to me, it was small and intimate.

I was at the Saturday May 3rd show, and this doesn't appear to be exactly as my now waning memory remembers. Besides the fact that the audio and video are out of sync (or two different songs entirely), this was the famous show where he walked off stage after 2 songs. This was the second time he had played the Fillmore East, the 1st time the year before in June, billing 2nd to the Grateful Dead. This time he was the headliner, with NRBQ opening, and the 1st US appearance of Joe Cocker and the Grease Band 2nd, who played an absolutely stunning set. When Jeff and the band came out, they played 2 very rough songs and then Jeff said "I can't do this", put his guitar on the stage floor and walked off. Bill Graham was besides furious, and after asking us to give him a moment, came back out and asked us if he could make amends by having Joe Cocker play a 2nd set instead. We yelled sure, and history was certainly made. This was the only time in my 100+ shows at the Fillmore that an artist walked off stage. I LOVED the original Jeff Beck Group, especially with Ron Wood and later Nicky Hopkins, it's my favorite era of Jeff's playing, oh how I wish there was full footage of his early performances....

@@fenderbass3847 Oh, how exciting, those were wonderful shows for sure! When he walked off stage I didn't take it as audacity but more of a pharmacology incident. He was giggling and looking here and there, even the rest of the band were surprised. But the strains of A Little Help from My Friends still echo within my mind, we were very fortunate to have experienced this...

The JBG was imploding. Rod & Woody were stealing eggs in NYC just to eat. Even the roadies ate better than the rest of the band. Peter *(Pumpkin Eater) Grant was a 'Huge' business end rip~off. They were completely slated to play '69 Woodstock, and backed out. Jeff wasn't the easiest to get along with in those days, and was notoriously unstable. There were some unfounded rumors that Jeff's wife was shagging around while he was on tour, but it was never confirmed, and the marriage finally did end in a divorce. ` I seen them on the same '68 & '69 tours, only at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit, and although they played remarkable, i always had the feeling that the show could abruptly end premature for some reason. If Jeff walked~off in Detroit, like he did at the Fillmore East, i think he would have got his ass kicked~haha. Anyway, like someone mentioned here, even though i witnessed Beck in all of his creations, i would have to say Hands Down, this was my favorite period of Jeff's long & illustrious career. A side note here, supposedly sometime during the 1969 USA tour, Jeff's Les Paul was stolen in Detroit, although some claim it was NYC, which could add fire to an already aggressive & pissed~off Mr. Beck~()~La? Many m()()ns ago, I do remember reading that an interviewer asked Jeff what was his favorite city to play in, and Beck said..."New York City has the best audiences". *God Speed Jeff in a Souped~up Ford Coupe.

@@davidratcliffe1 Long time ago David, thanks for jogging my memory. But i guess it still didn't take much to upset Jeff back then. Also, another reason for the JBG not to play '69 Woodstock was that they were slated to go on after the 'HOT' Sly Stone & the Family Stone.

LOL!!!!! "Historic Films" shot by terrible, inexperienced cameramen, with poor direction, and no sound synchronization. And we all knew Bill Graham had the cash to do better, but pinched like a miser. We rode the crest of the most exciting musical explosion in human history; but we sure did drop the ball on a lot of things. Can you imagine if everyone recorded or filmed everything they did, like the Grateful Dead & Frank Zappa did? Especially Jeff; who recorded and released very little live performances over the last 55 years......
