We had Michael Keene of The Faceless talk gear, new music, live shows and so much more as we invade California for Namm 2020 \m/ \m/ heavy.nyc / heavynewyork. . / heavy_newyork
despite his issues Michael keene is a musical genius, modern tech death is soo over thought that it looses musicality but he has managed to find a perfect balance.
Exactly. Their albums can have their flaws, but Keene showcases such an elegant mix of influences and flavors, and The Faceless are a prog death band of its own league to this day.
@@LabGoats @khettius I second this. Couldn’t hurt to reach out with a heart felt letter and you in turn may help him keep his head focused in the present and future etc. thanks for sharing that story btw. Good vibes !
Michael Keene is a modern Chuck Schuldiner. With every album they keep getting better and better. In Becoming a Ghost is so addicting that I can't stop listening to it every single day. Keene is a Metal God! I listen to Death's Human, individual, Spiritual and Sound of Perseverance on a weekly basis and now The Faceless. It is just the perfect blend of prog-jazzy melodic and brutal death metal and the production is Top Notch. Faceless forever!
Totally different people HOWEVER, I kinda get what your saying. He is his own musician and has his own style and it's kinda genius. I am certainly a huge fan...
Ive said this before and human is my favorite death album ha. I see what you mean entirely, he even resembles chuck in the way that they both used different members every album. Although chucks reasons for having different members werent the same reasons keene uses different members. Anyway funny it took about 5 years for me to see someone agree with me.
The creative geniuses are always the hardest to work with. This guy is a master at his craft. When I heard the faceless for the first time I knew it was something special. It pleases my brain every time I listen to their albums. Much respect!
say what you will about Mike and his personal issues....he writes some of the most beautiful, punishing, HEAVY music ever. when hes ON, there arent many shredders that can write/play the cool stuff he does. hope he can defeat his demons and make music for years to come. EDIT: NEW STUFF THIS SUMMER!???? FUCK. YES!!!!
Please get the help you need, Mike. Therapy, counseling, rehab, whatever the fuck will help. Us true fans are pulling for you and will always be here to support you!
@@UnholyMac.91 He looks sickly thin kinda similar like how Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom looked before he died hopefully he's ok and just looks thin because of the heroine that he used
@@UnholyMac.91 Countless lineup changes, sudden cancelled shows, and many other touring issues is blowing it out of the water? There's live footage of him literally nodding off on stage in the middle of a solo. I agree with HenryRuins. Keene is looking pretty rough here with the cheek bones sticking out and the skinny neck with the veins popping out. I really REALLY hope Michael finds the professional help that he needs. Sobriety is awesome, and this is coming from a person 5 years clean from opiates and pills. I saw The Faceless back in 2006 at Thee Imperial here in Jacksonville, and he was the nicest guy ever. I know he's a good person.
I hope i really hope(crossed fingers) that this guy come back on track and defeat his bad shit and make some melodic jazzy tech death stuff, i fucking miss the facelesz so much rn holy fak
I feel what he’s saying about the extra guitars on tracks. RoS would harmonize every lead almost but they didn’t put the harmonies on their tracks until recently. And I’m assuming most people reading this know what that resulted in lol
If he actually managed to have a new album ready by autumn it will be surprising, lol. That being said, I love the music, and I'm sure it'll be worth it
I think he means that from 2017 to 2020 it sounds like it’s been 3 years ‘by number’....but since it came out at the end of 2017, it’s only been just over 2 years since the release.....I think......
Dudes either drunk or on some hard. I do the same shit shit. It seems like I’m holding my shit together but in reality a non sober person can see it from a mile away
Fuck yeah! Im glad to hear that they are working already on a new album, been waiting for a good Autotheism successor a lot of time :) (I didnt like so much their last album, it have some very good songs but others lack the "emotion" autotheism have).
As interesting as those heavily evolving prog elements may be, I F'ing hate the guitar tone/ amp settings on the more recent releases, that impactful and heavy ass crunch (and composition) from Akeldama and Planetary Duality were the best. Less girlfriend rock, more brutality dudes.
I’m sure their will be a new album this summer considering you’re stealing money from people ordering your merch and not shipping it. Extremely disappointing...
Bc everyone struggles differently. Growing up, I was a very active guitarist...i developed really crippling anxiety at 22 And it was horrible.. someone asked me if I wanted to try heroin, and it’s not like I was like “this is a great idea!!” But I was desperate to not feel what I was feeling then and so i tried it and unfortunately for me I loved not feeling like I was having a heart attack all the time...wait does anyone like that feeling? I’m pretty sure they don’t..what I’m trying to say is that shit happens and whether or not you believe what I just said really isn’t anyone’s place to judge... honestly micheal Keene is a big inspiration to me bc he’s proven that you can rise above it all....he gets a lot of shit but let’s be honest how many times do you hear him being praised as not only an insanely awesome guitarist, but also a creative genius, a visionary...when you hear him you know you know it...and I honestly can’t say that for any of the RU-vid trolling, positivity sucking, self proclaimed critics that this disgusting generation and it’s booming techno culture produce.
