The most extreme test on RU-vid, and yet it is somewhat passable in all phones. Really impressive. I would like to know your thoughts on the recorded video on all three devices (from the screen record), and if there was any frame drops or cut audio on the videos. As usual, thanks a lot for the premium content !
Apple doesn’t need to pay youtubers. They are literally the richest company. And secondly in apple devices, 100-90% battery drain is extremely low and he started the video on phone at 70%.
It'd be interesting and funny to see something like this, maybe not so extreme comparing mid range phones like pixel 7a, Galaxy a54 and iphone se to see how much they can handle
agree. as far as i can remember the 7a outerformed the 7(pro) in some tests...that thing is a top-performer in so many ways besides bezels and charging speed 😂
@@ChaxO7 uhm the tensor 3 of the p8 pro is not THAT more powerful compared to the tensor 2 in the p7a. only 8 gigs of ram, ok, but with Android 14 you get top notch screen on time aswell
I think Google needs to implement a little bit more aggressive throttling. No dimming of the screen or thermal warnings but it got WAY too hot. With a processor and modem that are so bad at power efficiency it's concerning that Google isn't doing more to protect the phone from getting so hit. It's not unusual for mine to get to 106 F (41 C) not even doing much.
while s24 ultra will have an awesome chipset , it will only be an incremental update compared to s23 ultra. It is s25 which will really feature next gen lithography. That said ,users of s22 ultra will just experience the same lift in performance as users of s23 ultra when they tranistioned from s22 ultra.
Impressive from Pixel But really great from s23 ultra it has an year old chipset but still performs better than the A 17 pro and even Pixel's tensor has better multi-tasking capability compared to Iphone
They all failed to some extent, and none had a great experience, so it is unlikely anyone would do this type of multitasking as the performance could be better. The primary takes were: (1) that the iPhone and Pixel have improved with updates and that the S23U has degraded since the last test, which is worrying long term. Hopefully, Samsung will fix it with OneUI 6.1. (2) The iPhone was more efficient despite having a 15% smaller battery; (3) The worries that the iPhone overheated have been fixed, as it had the lowest thermals on test 1.
@@iammatthews The Pixel and S23U were hotter, so if the iPhone hasn't, then neither do the other two! There is a limit to this performance and not having a fan. Just try your i9/4090 with no fans. Even in a big chassis, it will choke. We have to admit that sustained workflows have reached a limit.
well everything she/he is saying is true and those things are the key take aways of this video that noone talks about.. iphone gets better and better while s23u is a consistent device. And do not forget that iphones dont have a thing for multitasking while it is a department that samsung aces at. I have a samsung device but i admit that iphone 15PM is efficient and a great phone. I dont play games etc, but for its great selfie camera and portrait mode i m thinking about bying one. S23U doesnt have that great selfie camera, while a friend of mine having the regular 15 takes selfies OUT OF THIS WORLD. clear af and so realistic! Both phones are great and it is a matter of personal preference@@uzairzafar3087
This goes to show, it's all about preference these days. All phone SoCs are good enough, it's all dependent on how the OEM tunes and cools it. If Apple just added cooling, it wouldn't thermal throttle so much. Also, I'm not sure if I didn't catch it, but Pixel 8 Pro supports 60FPS in Asphalt 9 in the settings. Update came out 2 weeks ago I think.
"good enough", "Oems tune and cools it". The iPhone is powerful but has shit cooling so it thermal throttles. The Pixel 8 Pro Tensor series still needs tuning and a bit more cooling. @@stel9178
@@stel9178 At the end of the video he literally says all of the phones are good options for gaming. Running 4 intensive applications in the BG is not a real world use case.
Just goes to show how useless is pushing chip performance to these incredible levels tbh Phone passive cooling is limited to the phone size and vapor chambers can help a tiny bit, instead of focusing on sustained performance with low heat they just keep pushing for higher numbers. Tensor level of performance is just fine for 99.9% users, just make it have better modem with less heat and it's ideal phone chip for years to come.
But at least you can put thermal paste on the chip which the Iphone doesn't. Iphone can only cool 4.7w while the other two devices can do 6W pretty easily,
exactly, performance was never my problem with this chip it's the thermal throttling and the efficiency as well. They should try to stick to less performance gains but better stability and that's something more people will notice, just imagine taking hundreds of photos and long videos and even playing games but the phone only gets slightly warm, not scorching hot. That's the dream but oh well big numbers look good on paper
Oh, pls....the 8 pro is running asphalt 9 at 30fps. Do you realise how mych less taxing that is?? This after basically every currently supported android device got 60fps unlocked, but since you can't change setti gs the usual way on the pixel, you're still left limited to 30. No motion blur, which is also very taxing, and tge general lower visual settings. Did you not see the perf degradation in Genshin?? Had he ran that game at 60fps, you would've have seen something very nasty, to say the least. Playing it on 30, actually gave the Pixel a decent fighting chance. It also let the iPhones display stay up in brightness for a lot longer
The performance of the Tensor isn't the biggest issue. It's the power efficiency that's the bigger problem. The Pixel did significantly worse in temperature (which is bad for the battery) and battery drain. The Pixel 8 Pro got about 10% hotter and used 15% more battery compared to the S23 Ultra. And that's with the Pixel having more efficient software than the S23 Ultra with its bloated and inefficient One UI software.
The pixel maintain a higher brightness which should produce slightly higher temperature and more battery consumption .Even with the display holding higher brightness they all only had a few points difference in temperature. Nothing significant to talk about.
Seriously It is kicking the iphone's ass, when the phone the iphone 15 is actually comparable to is the s24. Which means the iphone DEFINITELY will lose even bigger in a couple days once the s24 is out. I mean the s23 came out 12 months ago, the iphone came out 1 month ago, so ya the 15 gets compared with the s24. The 14 was the s23's competition, not the 15. Iphone sucks ass confirmed.
i dont think he updated the iphone, I have been playing the same game and didn't notice any warm ups, low brightness or performance drops after 30 mins of continued playing... I'm using the 15 pro though not the max
For testing gaming performances on genshin impact, I recommend playing co-op domains/bosses because that's where the frames starts dropping. I suppose ask a friend or someone to lend a genshin account with the stuff I said above unlocked.
@@firstclass000 for that price, I expect decent performance from those phones but I suppose i'm going overboard with it. Perhaps in a few years we can play genshin co-op while watching anime and doing math
On beta, Pixels GPU performance is substantially better with updates drivers, almost like 30% boost in performance. Wonder if it is present on December stable version.
Now we know iPhone's optimization !! Many haters complain about pixel's tensor chip performance but surprisingly doing great in real life. Pixel is doing great. Bdw, you're doing a great review. Most don't do such comparison with such accuracy and detail. Mkbhd, listen!
It is because you play games. You do not do anything in the background as AAA console games need 6GB of RAM for starters. Phones are really, for the vast majority, just one app at a time. These tests are not real life for 99.99% of users.
@@andyH_England good point. But one of my Apple fan friend was saying how iPhones can now run desktop games. If this test proved anything, Android flagships too are capable of such gaming. Just developers favor Apple users with exclusive apps or new features first
@@andyH_EnglandIf you see the actual gameplay, you are better off streaming the game and have better experience. And battery consumption is massive. I think from next iphone, it will be more viable.

Can you look into why Google assistant has gone bad ? I've got a pixel 6 Pro and before driving to work I'd say "ok google, take me to work" and it would open Google maps and start navigating to my place of work, same when I'm coming home. Now when I ask to take me home or work it does a search and just says "I found this on the web" very irritating.
I love these Videos! Currently im trying to decide between the P8P and the S23U. I love the feeling and the Software of the P8P. But Battery is just so much better on the S23U, specially on Mobile Data. Both are great Devices so its really hard to decide.

I own both, and both phones equal out on battery usage. Thing is, the Pixel needs time to learn our habits which when it does, battery life isn't bad at all and comparable
Coming into this, you'd assume the Pixel 8 Pro was going to do the worse, considering how everyone likes to go on and on about how the Tensor is no match for Qualcomm's Snapdragon or Apple's Axx chips. Well after this test, I can hear the Pixel saying, "How you like me now." 😂 .. honestly I've owned all three phones in this test. My SIM stayed in the Galaxy S23 Ultra for most of the year. It's a fantastic phone. I tried the Apple 15 Pro Max for two months til I could no longer take it. I am presently loving the Pixel 8 Pro more than I imagined I would. It's significantly better than the 7 Pro, surprisingly.
Let's see how Pixel 8 Pro performs in the same test against the S24 Ultra. This is comparing current flagships with current chipsets with past S23 Ultra with a past chip that still performs better the those two recent chips in many ways.
Also important to note, is that in this test the pixel just put the limit way higher for the tempratures. If Samsung did the same setting 47° as maximum instead of 44° it could have been a different result.
4:44 and this is why I trust tech reviewers over the actual manufacturer. Apple really hyped up how powerful the chip was and how it could play triple a games with no noticeable lag. Turns out it can't even play a mobile game without freezing up...
You must be a Samsung meat rider. Let’s talk about how the iPhone has a smaller battery got hotter and used 1% less battery than the Samsung. Also there was 3 more intensive task in the background no wonder it acted up that’s what happens when you push your phone to the limit.
@@KARMA-wz2njyeah sure keep meat riding apple, as if the s23 ultra wasn’t performing the same intensive task, but yet did the s23 ultra crash? The high and mighty 15pro max folded after 9mins lmao
@@KARMA-wz2nj I don't use Samsung, I use a Pixel. The Pixel's custom SOCs have never been great, but that's not what matters to me. I care about the manufacturer being genuine in the claims they make about their product, and while no company is innocent of making wild claims or impressions, Apple is frustratingly notorious for it. My point still stands, Apple fanboy.
That's about as objective of a test as you can get. All three are neck and neck and this tells me there is more to performance than benchmarks--except maybe in video quality where the iPhone excels.
i would like to see a similar test, playing a heavy game, could be genshin, but not particular about the game itself. while playing the game, it could also be connected to discord live streaming, while also screen recording. alternatively, it could just be connected to voice chat on discord while screen recording. this is a quite common setup that people do mobile gaming, where they may be coordinating on voice chat, while gaming, and while screen recording or streaming live. i would be interested to see how long each phone can sustain performance streaming & in game before throttling, and ofc temperatures throughout. it would be cool to see the s23 ultra, vs s24 ultra, vs iphone 15 promax.
i think this shows, if anything, that it really doesn't matter what phone you buy now, and that differences are mostly down to preference in hardware or software
Excellent video and these tests speak for themselves. Never expected the thermal throttling on iphones to be so bad despite their claims to run AAA games and having 'optimized' software support. Also while playing genshin impact pls use 60fps at highest settings as 30fps is a piece of cake even for midrange phones. Also make sure to conduct these tests in a newer region like fontaine or underwater region that are way more graphically intensive than the starter regions. It would be better to use a veteran account for spiral abyss based tests for combat stability as well.
All this shows is the iPhones poor multitasking abilities and poor thermal dissipation. This is not real world usage and shouldn’t be interpreted as a performance benchmark.
@@Furina1457 No it can’t lol. Playing intensive games while streaming with an overlay covering 30% of the screen is not real world usage. My point with my original reply was that this video is misleading. It’s not a “heavy workload test” as that implies performance. Instead it’s a multitasking and thermal management test, in which, the S23 is clearly superior. However these results shouldn’t be what to expect when it comes to gaming or a similarly intensive task.
What? This video is not misleading, It never said gaming test or intensive task test . This is exactly what a heavy workload test is. How can it be a workload test if he's only using one app? how is that a workload?@@ACDetailing00
One UI 6.0 doesn't pack much on performance rather they focuses on customization .. still it is impressive that it competes with new launched mobiles .. s23 ultra
It's kind of amazing that these phones are able to pull this off. On my S21 Fe, if I just play a youtube video in 720p PIP mode, and just use chrome or amazon or just go through UI, I get a lot of stuttering.
This was a nice benchmark, it allows us to determine if samsung is downgrading our phones thru update because s24 is coming out. Would be nice if you can do this again after a few months the s24 will be released. That way we can check if companies do plan obsolescence discreetly.
The s24 ultra stress test also failed when Emad tested it when it was released 4 months ago. This just goes to show that One UI 6 and One UI 6.1 is not as optimised as One UI 5. As 6.1 has all the AI capabalities which are always running in the background and eating most of its performance and causing it to overheat. We will have to wait and see Samsung will bring an update to address the inferior performance. I just decided not to update and just stick with One UI 5.1 as I only want peak performance.
Really awesome to see these heavier tests compared to your typical run-one-thing reviews. Keep up the awesome work and hopefully we'll get to see more with the S24 soon.
You've outdone yourself. Which is a huge deal, considering the bar was already very high. I love these workload battle reviews, and I hope more people see it.
Evwryone talking about how iPhone 15 PM doesnt have a vapour cooling chamber. But who stopped them from doing that on a 1100 dollar phone and that too when it runs " console level " games
Exceptional..! I own a pixel 6a and while playing Call of Duty I mostly face frame drops after 10-15 minutes playing. Never expected Pixel 8 Pro could even stand against these performance monsters😮 Though I like the Pixel experience 👍, not performance specifically 😏.

I hate when the Pixel drops the internet connection if it gets hot. It's a big problem if you are on a vacation in summer and need internet for navigation. I would rather throttle the CPU, dim the display and drop from 5G to 4G rather than completely lose the connection.
Thx another great and usefull tech video! Question: Is the glass on the camera lenses scratch resistant? Cant find any info about this. The camera's are the main reason I buy Pixels. ( currently a 7 pro) Dont wanna damage the lenses when wearing the phone in my pockets.😢
Google probably thinks if we don't put the thermal warning it didnt happen. We dont need that data we already know its hot lol. Hope they work it out by G4 or G5 🙏🏾😂
When will we do a hardcore thest as in 60fps in demanding areas in gemshin cuz those test i have seen the galaxy always get behind other snapdragon 8 gen 2 phones
The reason for the Pixel 8 Pro being so hot is because you took the temperature on the front of the screen. This is where the heat is dissipated from the phone. Google placed a very think film of Graphene over the CPU/GPU and battery and the heat dissipates through the front facing screen. What you are reading is not really the temperature of the processor, but the temperature of the glass as the heat is dissipated through it. JerryRig shows this in his video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0poyvpB7Fkw.htmlsi=psEr7TB4K_kuEtjd&t=203. It is because of this heat being released through the screen that the Pixel performed as well as it did. I'm tired of Apple and Samsung fanboys hating on Pixels and this video proves that the Pixel phone is every bit as good a phone as the iPhones and Galaxy phones out there.
It's good, but it still falls behind in some areas. The Tensor is till less powerful/efficient and that's a fact! So I wouldn't say "every bit" like you said. Just so yk I have a P7P. So I know what I'm talking about.
@@xperiafan5370 Yes, and like stated in the video, all three have some lacking. Even the iPhone had screen dimming, lagging and crashes. All I'm saying is that the Pixel phone can perform just as well as the other two phones and can actually excel in some areas. The Tensor G3 SOC was not designed for speed, it was designed to work with AI and ML and photography which it far excels at over the iPhone and Samsung phones. I am using the Pixel 8 Pro now and I my phone has never gotten hot or lagged or crashed since purchasing it in October.
Who cares about the CPU temperature? Silicon is fine up to 90° Do you think he is dumb? Ofc you would want to measure the phones bodh temperature, as that's literally what you would feel the most while holding it ... Otherwise I completely agree with you, graphite films and vapor Chambers perform equally as good in dissipating heat according to an iFixit engineer btw.
It's not rocket science, all smartphones dissipate their heat through the display. The only ones where the display doesn't account for most of the dissipation are the gaming phones with fans.
@@NOLATechy WTF bruh?! The A17 Pro and SD8G2 both have more powerful AI processing units than the Tensor G3. ML is quite good on the Pixel bc of Google's expertise in the domain; not the raw power of the chip's AI processing. They all have places where they fall behind and Idk why you made it sound like the iPhone is objectively the best of the 3. I don't think it is. When it comes to photography, it's a matter of preference as some people find all 3 to over process pictures and therefore, they don't consider them to b good. The only reason why the Pixel didn't lag is because it's GPU and CPU were pushing significantly less pixels as stated in the video. So it's not keeping up in sustained performance perse.
I do not think that not showing a warning is progression. The iphone could also not dim the display and keep the performance. But it would hurt the battery. Pixel simply doesnt care about longevity. I would not call that progression.
@@batterynerd8779In the 2nd test you can see the temperature overall is not that bad. Overall average with other 2 phones. I don't see that it is leading to the major longevity issues other than you are planning to use a phone for 100 years. Everyone changes phones.
I'm really curious how the RedMagic 9 Pro would stack up against these phones, considering it has an active cooling system. I wonder if it would be as impactful as the makers of the phone promise it to be.
I want you to make special comparison video on pixel vs ios/iPhone, especially on overall smoothness, animations and Ul pleasing experience....I am sure just like me many other viewers would like to see that as on RU-vid there are not many videos particularly on smoothness, user experience.... smoothness battle -Best of Android software vs ios ...that would be great

Can you do the same test with a phone which has flagship mediatek chip which also have mali gpu like tensor chip so we can find out graphics and framerate issues is due to mali or tensor. Btw great test i prefer both the test u did on 1st and 2nd round. But just my opinion use genshine instead of asphalt 9 for 1st round which will be a real test for throttling and efficiency
I like your videos because you look at things other reviewers don't, such as performance while on cellular. However, the A9 comparison is not fair - the Pixel has set the frame to 30 fps while the other two are set to 60 fps. That's a huge taxing difference. I know you can't change that on the Pixel, but to do a fair testing, it'd be better to use another game that allows you to set the graphics settings for all devices.
have you updated the iphone? I have been playing the same game and didn't notice any warm ups, low brightness or performance drops after 30 mins of continued playing... I'm using the 15 pro though not the max
I wish that Samsung watched these tests then they could improve the experience of their phones specially after updating to 6.0 The performance of battery was worse that before
Amazing video, but I think your methodology might have a slight issue. I think 5G modems by nature get much hotter than wifi, so your results might be biased towards which design can dissipate the modem heat in a torture test, as opposed to true max performance. I think it might be worthwhile to try the method, with 5g, wifi, then maybe without a modem to get a better understanding of what’s going on Screen dimming with heat on OLEDs is absolutely what you want the phone to do when exposed to heat. If the phone isn’t properly dimming that’s a real flaw as opposed to a win Great video!
Yea screen dimming is not a bad thing, but it shows us the phone's maximum capabilities. It's just like how sweating is not a bad thing, but if you're someone who sweats after only 10 seconds of jogging, it means that you have low athletic capabilities.
I am surprised you don't do these types of tests of Xiaomi flagship phones, they deliver the best performance I have seen. I have a Poco F2 Pro even though it's not a flagship but I have played genshin with the highest graphics maxed out for hours and has never shown any warning, imagine how powerful the flagships are, like Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

i would recommend don't genshin impact for these tests because there is a huge difference in the optimization it favours ios and those who recommended genshin impact probably couldn't digest that the iphone can lose to android
It’s a bs since Android version have no native res rendering (Yes it’s actually WXGA HD at Highest and upscaled to full res with TAA) And iOS version got native one Which is ~20% harder for GPU
