The HECO Aurora 1000 floorstanding speakers are a German engineered, large 3-way tower loudspeaker. The brand is relatively unknown in the USA but after James Larson got a chance to listen to them and do a full review, we are hoping that will change. The Aurora 1000s feature a 1.1" soft dome tweeter, 6.7" paper mid and dual 7.9" bass drivers. With a sensitivity of 93dB @ 1m/2.83v, and power handling of over 200 watts (continuous) these speakers can play loud and clean when they need to. But how do they measure? How do they sound? Watch our review discussion to find out.

I disagree with statements made here concerning the build quality and look. I OWN this speaker (Ebony Black) and it looks gorgeous... and the 'look' and build quality are top-notch. Also, the ports are fluted on the inside. Next time, I want to be a part of this review!!

In Germany, the Hecos are now sold for under 1000 euros a pair. Have meanwhile compared the Aurora with the Klipsch RP 8000f and must say that the Klipsch were chanceless. In particular, the Klipsch could not deliver the detailed reproduction of the upper mids and the fine resolution.

I received my Aurora 1000 3 days ago, I paired it with a denon 760 and a Polk PSW10 woofer.. OMG this setup is absolutely amazing, I love everything about it. Gives me dimensional sound, and the highs are bright but not too bright at all the base is deep the vocals or clear, this setup is perfectly balanced. I absolutely love it this total setup cost me under $2,500 and it I would say is better than the BMW 600 I listen to many times in Best Buy, that was actually the speaker I was going to buy. I must say anyone not wanting to break the bank and would like a awesome setup this setup I just mentioned will rival anything that you come across in that price point phenomenal phenomenal setup I absolutely love it

I setup a beautiful 2.1 and 5.1 system for a friend using these as mains and the bookshelf’s as mains in the 2.1. He hadn’t ever heard of them but saw them on Audioholics and Audio Advice and I told him Audioholics isn’t going to highlight a product that doesn’t perform. When we set them up I was extremely impressed even more so at their price point! Great upload Gene and James! Keep up the amazing work guys!

This was a really luxurious episode, I loved the port tuning and harmonic ripples that James mentioned. Some of my most beloved speakers were Fisher ST-888 3way paper cones with a 15” woofer. The woofer had a tiny magnet and maybe 2” voice coil sheepishly eclipsed by the 3” dust cap, on spec they rolled off at 50hz, but they rolled off long and deep with just enough output to hear really low frequencies in a smooth and natural sounding way. Which made allot of special effects sound absolutely huge in a soft compressed kinda way. The memory of which still makes my window sills shudder in fear.
@Audioholics
@Audioholics 2 года назад
I remember those big ole Fisher speakers and their impressive bass despite the tiny magnet on those woofers. My friend had those and I had Cerwin Vega's with 10" drivers. The CV magnet was at least 4X the size of the 15" but I still was in awe at the amount of bass those Fisher's produced.
@SwirlingDragonMist

@@Audioholics I had another pair of Fishers with the same style that were counter height. I bundled the 4 up together and sold them off to a budy. Those taller ones had a bit of a formaldehyde smell from the fiber board glues. I can still remember my buddies face when I demoed all 4 for him. And also his face when he drunkenly attempted to suck the dents out of the aluminum dust caps with his lips LoL

Terrific review, guys. I'm glad because I own a pair and I love them. Just one point. Many people don't think bi-wiring/bi-amping does much to sound quality. I trust some ears may not hear the differences or some systems may not show it. Some of those folks may not be able to try it because they have very expensive cables or amps and doubling up would get very pricey. I do bi-wiring with my Willsenton R8 amp using Blue Jeans Canare 4S11 cable terminated with two banana plugs at the amp end and four banana plugs at the speaker end. The transformation from simple wiring is remarkable. The three-dimensional, holographic, and beautifully balanced tonal presentation far exceeded my expectations. Of course, at $120 for two six-foot cables, the BJ speaker cable made trying bi-wiring affordable. I used to have Audioquest Robin Hood Zero speaker cables. At like $2,000 for a pair, I sure as hell would not have tried bi-wiring or bi-amping. Fortunately, I discovered that Blue Jeans speaker cables, in my system and to my ears, improved upon the sound quality presentation of the Audioquest cables, for a lot less money. I am currently testing bi-amping using an Emotiva BasX A4 four channel amp which sells for about $549. In this case, I use Blue Jeans Ten White speaker cables. At $180 for the cables, it was certainly an affordable option to try. After three days of breaking in the Emotiva, the sound quality improvement over bi-wiring is in the neighborhood of 20%. Perhaps I can see differences, either with vinyl or digital sources, because of my gear. I have a Technics 1210GR with a Lyra Delos cartridge and a Pro-jet Tube Box DS2 phono preamp. On the digital side, I have a miniPC feeding a Denafrips Iris DDC, which in turn feeds a Denafrips Pontus II DAC. Power cables are Audioquest; interconnects by Blue Jeans. I stay away from endless engineering discussions about bi-wiring and bi-amping which left me confused and could justify either doing it or not. I let my ears tell me what to believe and do. I believe those whose ears don't say the same thing to them that mine tell me. I am just happy to have found the best improvement for the money I've ever made to a system in 50 years as an audiophile.

@armandorancano6415 2 года назад
@@cenkisil574 Do you mean to upgrade Heco speakers? What kind? It is so hard to make a recommendation for so many reasons. Most important for me is that synergy is everything. Sometimes you have to try out several devices together to nail it. The common wisdom is that you choose your speakers first. However, my Heco 1000s came last and their neutrality brings out the best in upstream gear. I've had many different topologies of high-end speakers up to $50k. The Heco's are my favorites.

@Mike Lewis SELA at the end I found a great deal with a used pair of Indiana Line DIVA 665. Otherwise I would have bought the Wharfedale Linton. Now I am 100% satisfied! The sound is more detailed in the whole spectrum: the bass is tighter and precise, midrange is detailed and sweet and trebles offer a better soundstage. The result is due to many factors: room treatment to reduce reverberation, good speakers (including a 500w RMS Monolith THX subwoofer) and Yamaha equalisation thanks MiniDSP and REW. I set up the eq.in order to get a generally flat response slightly tilted downward on the trebles and with 6-10db emphasis on very low bass region (from 20 to 150 Hz). This is also called like Harman Curve.

@@armandorancano6415 It's very doubtful that the cabinet resonances are figured into the voicing. That certainly isn't an industry practice. Again, I don't even know that the ripples in the impedance response are a matter of panel resonance, because there are resonances in the ports around the very same areas. I don't think that panel resonance is a serious audible problem with this speaker. Nonetheless, whatever effect it might have could be easily addressed with some simple mods. These mods could also make the speaker feel 'higher-end' by adding mass and rigidity.

bi amping is primarily for sound quality. not more db/power
@williamcampbell3868
@williamcampbell3868 11 месяцев назад
I agree. Biamping with two identical amps or with tubes on mids and treble with transistors on bass. The latter of the two ways I think is better because you get the best of both worlds

@@williamcampbell3868 I think one would struggle making that sound `correct`. but hifi is suppose to be innovative and interesting. and to get what sound we want, having fun doing it. it also might work 100% who knows

Speaker with very cheap crossover parts. This is very common even on slightly more expensive speakers. You get very little for your money!

@@Audioholics yes you can get cheap parts to give good sound if you do it right. Have you heard of Sea's speakers Norway? seas exotic w8 which is an incredibly expensive 8 inc speaker 699.96 € seas exotic t35 treble $ 624.83 if you build a good box with seas own crossover and these speakers, do you think you get good sound? Do you think you get better sound than you get with the cheapest seas 8 inch and treble? The answer is NO NO. My friend bought exotix used and found out. More frequencies you need to lower with the crossover.

@@Audioholics I love your channel and follow it regularly,but sorry-here you are wrong-this is a typical boom-boom speaker "made in China" ... you don't seem to know much about the European market and speaker manufacturers here. If you are really looking for the best value for money among European manufacturers - here the German manufacturer Nubert is king. I bet you haven't heard of them yet ;) Here, for comparison (same Price), the Nubert Nuboxx B-70 is offered with a crossover consisting of 28 high quality elements on two printed circuit boards,it is Made in EU ( higher NuLine and NuVero series are Made in Germany),and throughout the sales period of the model (on average 6 years), it will still have the same price ... Heco will be sold with "crazy" discounts after a year or two.And what's the catch- it's not! Nubert sells only directly, not through retailers ... so the customer gets a better speaker than the entire competition is able to put together. It is true that practically all manufacturers (Canton, Quadral, Magnat, Heco, etc. produce only the most expensive "flagship models" in Europe !!!) were forced to produce practically everything in China to be competitive. "performance is good" if you want a peak + 3dB at 250Hz, and another biiiig + 6dB at 100Hz It starts only at 45Hz (-6dB) or 55Hz (-3dB), the manufacturer "falsely" states the "frequency response" 22Hz-42,500 Hz ... oh yes-of course-we give up the bass and we already have a "loud" speaker-win!!! (Source-German magazine Stereoplay) Nubert here is something completely different 30 / 29Hz -3 / -6Hz according to Stereoplay-test (manufacturer's data 32 / 30Hz). You know-Nubert is something special-they are technical perfectionists through and through (Gunther Nubert is a living legend in European Hi-Fi and home cinema) ... I think you will be very interested in his technical publication "Technik Satt" ... especially the page 18+ about cables. www.nubert.de/technik-satt/59/ It's only in German, but I think you'll be happy to translate because you'll find a "soul mate" in technical views;) Greatings from Slovenija.
