The Hedge Find Ford Fiesta driving again and road legal but still looks like a biohazard on wheels, can a day of scrubbing make it nice?

It's nice to see an old dumped car made presentable, brought back to life and put back on the road. 15 years old and worth £500 of anybody's money - with just a day or two of work and under £100 of parts and testing. Could give another decade of driving if looked after. I'd guess a lot of cars are scrapped that shouldn't be. We should be reusing, recycling and renovating more.

Exactly. I bought a nice little mk2 Kia Rio diesel for 400 quid a few years back. It was a fantastic tidy runarounf for 2 years. The fuel tanks on them gave a nice rust trap and mine rusted through. I filled it and poured a dealer in and git another year out of it, but it was shot completely by next MoT. £500 for a tank and no 2nd hand ones around. It was very, very reluctantly scrapped. It still looked like a 3 year old car.

"Thank You ever so much for taking the time & care & all of your magnificent splendid effort to get Ford Fiesta GK05 CSY back into a respectable roadworthy condition for the new owner ! In my honest opinion : You are a really nice splendid chap to do something as Philanthropic as this for somebody else 👍 ! N.B. I really do wish there were more, many more generous & really kind people in this world, just like you, to make this Planet Earth a much more philanthropic place than it currently is ! All the Best to You, Kind Sir ! Cheers, Roger 👍. Addendum : PS. This Ford Fiesta GK05 CSY originally hails from 'My Neck of the Woods', Sussex / Kent Area 😀👍where I was born over half a century ago !

That’s such an appealing little car - the colour is called ‘Tonic’ (I had a Focus mk 1.5 in it) and you really brought it back to life! It’s disgusting how bad some people let their cars get inside - I’ve refused to work in one or two as they were horrendous! Doesn’t really matter that it has dings and scrapes - if it’s clean and tidy that speaks volumes! Loved the music at the beginning by the way. Great video Matt!

Get some applicators, soft brushes for the interior and a horse hair brush for cleaning the seats and other leather/cloth. My Gran had the heated windscreen in her X reg Focus, part of the climate pack. From what I understand Ford have/had the patent on heated car windscreens that's why pretty much no other brand had them. As for cleaning car upholstery I use a Numatic George and Prochem cleaner for that, The George is an excellent machine with decent suction and build quality, plus it's made in the UK! Dried in a couple of hours last time I did out '14 Micra if I remember correctly.

@gosportjamie
@gosportjamie 3 года назад
I would heartily recommend having glass cover on your insurance if you're going to buy a car with a Quickclear-type heated windscreen. When I needed the one on my Focus replaced due to surface damage, the £75 excess on the insurance was a lot more palatable than well north of £500 if you need to pay for it yourself. If the front alloys on that are knackered, it might be a good idea to replace them with steelies as they're a lot cheaper from a breakers than the alloys are and, as a first car, it's probably going to be getting friendly with a few more kerbs in the future, which most new drivers do as they pick up experience...

Probably just wanted another young girl to use the car for what it was...To put more dents on it while still learning. It's good mechanically and clean inside (now) should be fine for a few years of use. Let's face it, insurance costs on something like this for a new driver will probably be £1500+...and all the jobs that students/young people do are currently up in the air...Pub work, retail etc etc. I'd rather a £500 car go to good use rather than it just sit...

All of the 'learning' that happened in that car makes it look like it was the blind leading the blind.

I did admit It missed that corner of the footwell, but without a proper carpet cleaner type machine the carpets came out really well

Fantastic job Matt, and a cracking little car under all that grime. Would make for a great RU-vid collaboration project if you could whip it round to Rob and Chris at Salvage Rebuilds to sort the bodywork out... they’re not far from you!

yeah, not far at all - wonder if they'd like to have a crack at it?

Nice. Gotta be worth a few hundred quid now. The new owner probably thinks you're a diamond geezer! Well, you can't fault me for trying.

You're either going to love or hate what I'm going to say. I find moisturised wipes on Plastic interior pieces helps. Plus you don't get the silicone of Armour All eating away at plastic dash bits.

I dont like the silicon finish either, to shiny and not very nice to touch

Can’t believe you’ve sold out to a sub standard valeting product maker. Especially one that’s took part in the great car sales con of “would you like diamond brite on your new car”.

I dont think the products are at all substandard, Ive been using them for a few years as they are a local company, check my older videos and you'll see One Cut sorting the Volvo among others

If you take an abrasive polishing compound to a sunbleached paint, that works really well: you take off the weathered bit and the paint pops again like new. Could you use the same polish on a bad rattlecan repair? Would the polish help blend the mismatched colours together, or would it just slowly strip off the rattlecan botch job?
@furiousdriving
@furiousdriving 3 года назад
Theres not a proper surface to shine on an unfinished rattle can job, it needs flatting with 2000 wet and dry then sealing with lacquer to get any kind of gloss

You should buy a carpet spot cleaner (vacuum cleaner) they work great on dirty seats. (they spray a mist and suck it up)
