Cars like this do make quite a bit of sense. Once they've made it to this age and mileage, pretty much anything likely to fail has already done so and been repaired, so the car often has a good few years of life in it as a household runabout or first car for a son or daughter. Plus these days, anything up at £995 with a new MOT will fly out the door. Just don't sell it to anyone coming out of a lease car. Their expectations are up in the clouds and they will be a right royal pain in the arse when the inevitable happens.
Bought an 04 fiesta £1125 for the kids as a learner car 6 years ago. Its now on 120k and drives sweet as a nut. They are such good little cars, drives so well with very well balanced control. Can leave it for month and it just starts instantly. Only problem is leaking cam cover , put new gasket and sealant but it still leaks over the camshaft cog area as it has a snapped bolt. Still apart from the odd drip , just annoying. When I bought it put on new discs and pads, fluid flush, plugs and rear springs, rear silencer,. Since then not needed anything apart from set of Dunlop. Not bad for 40k of use, kids still love it.
I have the same car Ford Fiesta, I was dealing with a similar problem. I recommend checking the large gray connector in the engine compartment, it is located at the connection point of the engine with the gearbox (the bigger cable harness connecting the engine sensors to the control unit). The cable harness runs under the battery box towards the radiator. Moisture gets into the connector and the contacts corrode, you need to use a contact cleaner. In my case it solved my problem. Good luck 👍 PS: My Fiesta has over half a million kilometers on it.
It’s good you’ve saved it keep’s decent little runaround’s on the road . It seems all quick to bin something nowadays instead of repairing it, be it a car or anything else.
i think cars like this and people like you are so important....the car is affordable and up to standard for safe motoring....and you make this possible....the planet is protected from the throw away society ...because of the effort you put in to give these cars several more years of life....back in the 70s and 80s we didnt change our cars like the weather....we kept them going as finance was hard to come by
Thanks dean, yes people need cheap cars like this as finance is not always available to them or they just don't want to spend large amounts of there monthly income in having a newer car. cheap cars like this give people the freedom to work and socialise with friends and family.
The publicised analytics are helping to keep a larger number of these wonderful runners on the road. So many Mk 6 going straight still ...and this is 2024 and that is a compact car for everyman. Thank you.
Once the big jobs are done, it should be a good car. These Fiestas (and Fusions) are generally reliable and parts are much cheaper than brands like VW.
We hat a similar Problem with the same ford fiesta it wouldn't start and we figured out we were turning the key to fast 😂it just didn't handle the speed of turning the key anymore
Small profits on honest deals leads not only to lots of repeat customers, but you go to bed with a clean conscience. We need more garages like yours Lee 👍
Cracking idea looking after the locals,so many want a cheap motor with a ticket, nothing fancy, just something to from A to B,my mate does just the same and people stay with you
My mk 6 Fiesta did this the other day but had a message came up.on the dash saying engine malfunction left it for 5 mins then it started car has been ok eversince
What is the “actual” profit? Taking cost of labour / consumables / payment transaction costs / warranty repairs and the real killer - VAT Plus cost in time finding the right cars and the margins become very tight - hence why I have bought virtually no cars at auction for a long time. Keep your powder dry until sanity returns
That's bad. Lee, don't you sometimes long for the days of carburettors, contact points, hand chokes, grey exhaust pipes caused by leaded petrol and, above all, no error codes?
Another ' no waffle ' video , straight to the point , really interesting . Out of curiosity what's with the caravans in the background, something else you're involved in ?
Thanks for the tip about the RIKEN brand of tires. I have had Michelins on a few of my cars but they can be quite expensive. Had a vaguely similar starting problem with an old 280Z. Turned out it was corrosion in the wiring harness close to the battery.
Thanks for watching Howard, yes the riken are decent cheap tyre but not to be compared directly with its michelin brother as they will last twice as long will be a better grip rating. but as a alternative budget option Yes
Can i ask you a question I know this sounds a bit cheeky but what do you think of nissan note are they bulletproof and if they are which model is best course I'm serious thinking of baying one I've got a cat D Nissan Micra I've had year's not a problem it's a 63 reg your in the trade so you do know what your talking about love the videos you keep putting out
Hi Michael, there ok i would stick to a 1.2 or 1.4 but by sounds of it you have a decent motor withe the micra. nothing wrong with the nissan note but in my view they dont drive as nice as a micra but are more practical
Cheers for that but I do like nissan car's all ways have done but I like ford fiesta's had a Mark 1 and Mark 2 but that was years ago but as I'm getting older I'd like SUV so I can climb out something a bit higher my old back. but has to be a reliable I'm not bothered about the age of the car £3000 to £4000 is budget
Possibly Ignition switch, changed mine the other day on my mk6 fiesta, cost £17, bought the car 2 years ago for £150 and has been great so far, quite nippy as well with it's 1.4 twin cam engine.
@@carukchannel Bought the car off a mate, mot failure, did the road spring and 2 tyres plus mot etc, so was about £400 in reality, but luckily has been really reliable since.
Had a TDCI Fiesta once , nightmare it was caught fire on M1 due to leaking fuel injector not good and it only had 56 thousand on the clock , the garage did give me my cash back as they recognized obviously cars with dangerous faults should not be sold to the public.
they are common for injector seals leaking we call it chuffing injector due to the noise it makes. sounds like whats happened to you, glad you were ok. thanks for watching christine
I had a mk2 as my 1st car an f reg 1100 so easy to work on but the dreaded tinworm killed it after 3 years of ownership it was that bad the guy welding it sills said he had to plate the floor as the inner sills were as bad as the outer skins but that 1100 was bulletproof always started and economical to run.
Yes the older over head valve engines 1.0, 1.1 and the 1.3 being the most common were decent reliable engines to be fair, old tech but still did the job. Did like to burn oil mind.
Love your videos Lee, i'd happily buy a motor off you, thats a lovely wee Fiesta and your right its well worth saving, hope ignition sorts the problem. Keep the videos coming 👍👍
A days labour to change a clutch. Can’t understand that on a fiesta. 4 hours maximum I think but really that car with that mileage ain’t worth messing about with for a couple of £100 profit in my opinion.
we made just pver 400 on the car and sold it to a guy who works over the road as his car broke down and kept a decent car going for a few more years so i am happy with that. book time is about 4 hours but we would throw this on a ramp and do it between jobs as we are running a garage so you tinker with it throughout the day so as not loose paying work elsewhere.
With the current weather this should be any easy sell for someone who's damaged their car on the ice and just needs a little run-around to tide them over until their car is fixed or paid out for.
Eh Up. Clutch. I too!!! 130k CRV diesel. It’s had a new master cylinder. I’m wondering if hasn’t been bled the clutch hydraulics. The clutch drags. Sticks gear. Doesn’t disengage !!!! Sometimes ok. I’m wondering if this is 1. Pressure plate / similar or 2. Hydraulic lines ??? Cheers Dan.
that is what I do as a customer he gets me a cheap car take it to him for a service mot ex if i get 3 years out of it then repeat the process been going back to him for 20 years
Great vid as usual I noticed from previous vids you like the older cars Seen a Citroen saxo auto with low mileage around 30k. Should be going quite cheap is that of interest to you?
thanks glyn, yes i worry about the cheap end of the market in the coming years with all these electric cars being forced on us. the batteries are worth so much even dead would mean cars under 2k will be thing of the past
wow going back a few years there, was 6 years now. We kept our garage at the same premises but built it up. things were alot easier running a garage, well until i set up a youtube channel 😁
I recently had a black 04 1.2 Fiesta with a 120,00 on it. I put it in for an MOT and it was 600 to get it through. Nothing major, just little niggly bits. The scrap was £275 and I offered it to the garage for the same money. They didn't want to know. It's a real shame as they could have sorted it for well under £500 and sold someone a cheap run around and made a profit. I whish more dealers/traders thought like you.
