The next step after the leather upper is created is lasting. Lasting is the process of shaping the leather to the last (a last is a mold that the upper is shaped onto).
We also show the welting and attaching the Dutchman.

Thank you so much for sharing this video, especially with chapter marks and time offsets in the description! I hadn't seen the term "dutchman" before. Would it be fair to also call it a rand, rahn, split lift, or seat lift, or does a dutchman differ from those in some way? Anyway, thanks again. I look forward to sharing this video with folks interested in hand lasting using applied canvas gemming.

Thank you! We responded to clients who wanted softer and lighter footwear. We placed orthopaedic foam on the ball of the foot as well as at the heel for cushioning.

Because we use canvas in the toe cap, it is required to form the outline twice in order to have a sleek toe cap. There is no possible way to do this in one go by hand. By machine yes because there are multiple "arms" pulling the material at various points, but by hand, it is just not possible.
