25 years later here I am... back on the tatami trying to remember make my body remember. Trying harder, relentlessly, not giving up. It feels good to meet my old sensei and train with him again.
Really great Kata lessons! From 3 points of view! And done REALLY preofessional! :D I need this for my blue belt. Now I started training again with my kids, after 13 years of break...
Tysm our sensei and my classmates in karate taught me the full ver of this kata (they made me lear the half first). I can do this kata properly and correctly if I do it with my classmates but without them I keep messing up so now im at home practicing this and I almost did it! Thank you so so much again!
Thanks again! As I wrote before I am trying to resurrect my memory, body and skills after 8-9 years off Shotokan. I was studying on my own when I lived in Bangalore India. There was a Shotokan School on the other side of the city, that would have required a 2 hour autorickshaw ride there and back if traffic wasn't too bad, which is rare in Bangalore from 2012-2016. So I drilled on my own following along with Paul Walker's videos (Shotokan Sensei on RU-vid), and also studying Hirokazu Kanazawa's movement on RU-vid for extra inspiration. No one to practice Bunkai with. I made it to Red in Kajukenbo at a dojo in the 1990s then moved. Then Purple in "Kodakan Jitzu" at another dojo in early 2000s and then moved again, then Shotokan with an 8th degree American who was in the Korean war, with three other people in the mid 2000s. He was great, but that ended when he got arrested. There is no point in saying why. Suffice it to say that the nature of the crime was offensive, and I felt really let down and didn't want to practice Shotokan for a long time as it reminded me of him.
I was doing some of my karate exams last year i made it to orange belt and this year i turned into blue belt and i already know all the kata but i havent done karate in a few months because of Quarantine so my karate sensei came in my house i was training here but i forgot the kata except heian shodan heian nidan or heian sandan hope i get my memory back soon :)
Great video thank you so much Sensey !!! I am preparing for my blue belt but not sure what kumites I will be tested on . Would you please let me know ??? Blessings to all who watch this video 😊
By “moves” do you mean steps or techniques? There are 21 steps, but some steps have multiple techniques. My opinion is that the number of “moves” is not so important because how to count moves can vary depending on (a) the application intended, (b) student level, and (c) instructor personal preference. (Student level means that we make 2 counts for beginners where we would make 1 count for more advanced students.)
I’ve learned from my sensei, kokutsu, in english means the bone of the chin, so the center G should be upon it, but your kokutsu dachi is too much of opened...it’s just an remark I learned by my great master.
