Kihons is the building block for everything we do in karate. Love your video contents as it gets better and better by the moment. A big OSU from across the pond, USA!

I LOVE working the fundamentals. I stress them when I train by myself and when I teach. It is a reason why I love hyungs (kata).

Cheers I'm working on staying loose. My sensei always says I have to much tension. Although I feel relaxed I still use to much power than speed probably from hitting the heavy bag when I was younger 😂

Stunning technique and control Sensei! Oss!! Nice video. There are so many elements of training that need attention. Its hard to fit them all into class times. Like you say, we need to practice individual kihon techniques on the bag as well as line work, kumite, kata, general bag work, partner work, self defence work. Really need to win the lottery and quit work! 😂

Yea there is too much to fit in.. that's why it's important for people to take away points and work on them away from the dojo... or win the lottery 💰

Nice to watch when you have kind of "perfect" technique in your karate.

Thank you! Exactly! I think, I damaged my left hip tendons because of the Yoko-Keagé, which I never really mastered, even though I am doing karaté for decades now! And guess what? I found out recently that Funakoshi never executed it like we do today, it was more similar to a Mae-Geri, but with a flat foot, as seen in his book "Karaté Jutsu" from 1925, which is much more comfortable for me! So much to "traditional" karaté! Traditional karateka never did this sh!tty movement like this before! Also, I think, trying to keep the low height while doing kicks is harmful for the joints, as almost all kicks require some degree of pivoting on the ball of the supporting foot, which I guess is not healthy for the knees and hip joints if the supporting leg is not straight. May be that's why Taekwondo practiotioners have relatively high stances and straighten the support leg while kicking, even within Katas. Again, when I see the book of Funakoshi from 1925, the stances were very much "normal", definitely not that deep, and there definitely was height shifting, depending on the movement. I don't know where this shit about keeping the height constant all the time came from?? Another newer trend that I think was harmful for my joints: the stance shifting on the heel, as advertised by Naka-sensei and the like! I noticed that my hip hurts sometimes when I do the Mawaté rotation on the heel. I am now trying to get rid of this bad habit, and doing the rotation on the "middle" of the foot as advised by the late Asai-sensei, meaning half the rotation on the heel, and the rest on the ball. Speaking about stance shifting: I think many senseis are too much into "avoiding telegraphing" the movement, as if we're all gonna be world kumité champions! I prefer telegraphing the movement than having broken joints! I don't think the average street thug knows what I am gonna do next just because I telegraphed a little bit. And so I prefer now doing the proper foot shifting as you show in the video before doing the actual kick, in order to deliver the kick without damaging the joints. I am now supplementing Glucosamine and Collagen in order to (hopefully) repair my bad joints 😷

Hey, what’s that wooden block you see karate folks hit on the wall? I’ve been curious for very long but googling hasn’t brought me to an answer. Many thanks if you could let me know
