Just got a 13 KLR with 11500 on it, and '14 K60's on it. They are the older ones without the continuous center line on the rear tire, but the wear for the mileage is minimal and plenty of grip. Unfortunately they are drying out and starting to crack a bit around the stress edges of the lugs, so off to get a new set! At 80 on the highway, and cruising streets around town...zero lug noise. Amazing tires.

Nice video. I have a set now, and although they wear well, I am looking forward to wearing them out so I can put something different on. IMHO in wet conditions they tend to loose traction suddenly and unpredictability.

When deciding on K60 Scouts, keep in mind that not all of the K60's are the new generation K60 Scouts. I have a set for my CRF250L (120/80-18, 90/90-21) and although the Scout is available for the front tire, I chose the older style K60 to match the rear as it is only available in the older K60. They are very similar in appearance, but they do have some differences, presumably improvements.

I've got them from 5000 miles and about 3 mils left on thread. I'm doing lots of motorway riding. they great so far. next be same ones

I ran 22psi front and 20 rear on the old design and they ran perfect on everything, Wet, Tar, Dirt MY04 950 KTM. No idea on mileage as I have 3 sets of wheels. Carrying a minimalist pump you could run the highway at 36-39psi to get the distance then drop to 20psi and may work with this new design. You will lose a lot of traction in the dirt with that center line at high pressure. I could drop further pressure as I run Rim Pins (1970's KTM's) If you still have the traction with the new design, with the lower pressures, then used this way you will have the perfect compromise tire for ADV

I'm just about to replace a set of K60 Scouts. I have about 12000km on them, and they have lots of thread left. The front tire has some uneven wear, so they vibrate a bit, but that's the nature of knobbies on pavement. This bike has not been used for some years, so the tires are over 10 years old, so when starting to ride more again, I'm treating it with new shoes.

Great review and great tires. If they do 10,000 I'll be very pleased.

they are really good. put these on my 125cc supermoto, makes such a huge difference when going from road tryes to these. especially as i was using road tyres... offroad

I like the K60 rear but the K60 front has an annoying whine around 45-55 mph.

The only thing i dont like is that slick strip down the center of the tire. I have a Honda XR650l and checked out different tire sizes and found out tire tread patterns change with the tire size.The k60 scout 140\80 18 Don't have the slick strip down the center.Going to be doing some rain riding, not much but that slick center scares me. Hydroplane!! Should have mine in a few days and Can't wait to try them out. Thanks for the video it helped a lot.

Interesting to me how the tread pattern is so very similar to the proven design of WW2 era Jeep.

I have run them on my 06 gs adventure on and off road and in the snow for the last three years. They are as good as it gets for a dual purpose tire and I would recommend them to any one who likes to get off road a bit and not just go in straight lines. Mine have never lasted more than around 6 thousand miles before they start getting badly out of shape at the front but the rears seem to keep their profile pretty well up to the wear limit. But then again I live in Ireland and the men that made the roads must all have been pished!

They are very stiff and noisy on the road between, 55 and 65 miles/h or 80 - 110 km/h, but the performed off road very very good. I have them on my Tiger 800 XC. I run them both at 30-32 psi on and of road.
@markjurczyk
@markjurczyk 7 лет назад
This is the reason they make noise, you running them way to low ! 30-32 ? are you kidding
@generaldistrust

If ANY noise -maybe the older design FRONT. The rear won't make such noise with the centerpiece

Heidenau sounds like you work for Heidenau . The center line of the tire looks scary. I like the Mitas 07+ much better

Not great in loose gravel or "babyhead" type terrain as they don't grab. I had to climb out of a creek bed with these on and it was way tougher than it should have been. Definitely a compromise.

Is it just me or is the strip he's talking about at 2:04 just the wear indicator...?
@VojtechKotekoid
@VojtechKotekoid 9 лет назад
acdegans Neh because he talks about the wear indicator later. I think he might be refering to the solid center of the tire.

it's an editing mistake both shots are the same from the same angle when showing the strip and the wear indicator

No he is talking about the little tab that reenforces the side tread. Makes them deform less under cornering.

Thanks for the review, I am thinking of fitting these tyres on my Moto Guzzi V7 special, do you recommend them at all? travelling on motorways too? Thanks
@viel.anthony
@viel.anthony 9 лет назад
What's your feedback on dry pavement riding? Is cornering unstable at all, because your tire looks very flat? Also, with the center strip being full, did the rear end want to step out in the rain? I want great off-road capability in fire roads and gravel, but still be able to have fun in the twisties and canyons. I ride a DL650, so I'd be looking at a 150. Considering the K76 and Anakee 2 as other options, in that order. Thanks

Hi there, i'm in the exact same situation as you were ! Have you picked a tire that pleased you ? Got an 08' DL650, had a pair of anakee 2's and they were great for what i did, but i think i'd like either something more offroad oriented OR totally road oriented like the michelin PR4 trail... hum
@viel.anthony
@viel.anthony 7 лет назад
+Tim Van Leemput Hi Tim, ended up with the anakee 3, putting 18k km on it and its still good for another 2-3k. The handling is really great, especially given the longevity of the tire. Wet handling is superb and light offroading is a breeze. 35mph on a dirt and gravel road without a problem. My friend rode a KLR with a K60 scout and I'm glad I went with the Anakee. Will be changing tires come spring and this time the front oem tire is due too, and both will be replaced by anakee 3's.

My 120/70-19" K60 Scout front tire screaming as crazy chainsaw at speed 80-100 km/h. This is very disappoint, I can't recommend it to anyone.
@myronhorvathsk
@myronhorvathsk 5 лет назад
Ilya Kudin Put a louder exhaust on your bike and it won't matter then because you won't hear it. I personally could never condemn a tire because it made noise. Question #1: does it give traction where I want and wear decent? Answer #1 yes: Good, it's not broke don't fix it. Answer #2: No, then find something different to try.

Too noisy up front. Too slick in wet. MITAS E07+ is better for 80/20 as the K60 is not really a 50/50 either. I replace my tires when there is less than 3mm at the marker

$200 for a rear tire....i say bullshit
@warrior4-u
@warrior4-u Год назад
I agree! I’d rather buy a $70 rear tire that only lasts 3 or 4,000 miles and have to replace it 3 or 4 times, and remove and mount them 3 or 4 times over the life of that $200 tire that only has to be mounted once during that same time frame. 🤔
