We invite you to join us for Conversations with Jewish Believers In Jesus hosted by Jeff Morgan. In this episode, Jeff talks with Heidi Barr about what salvation actually looks like for a Jewish person and what we’re being saved from.
Heidi Barr grew up in an Orthodox Jewish community in a small town in the Midwest. She was the first bat-mitzvah in her Orthodox synagogue after the rabbi received special permission from a Beit Din in NYC. At the age of sixteen, she died in a horseback riding accident and unexpectedly encountered Jesus. A year after her NDE, Heidi moved to Israel where she lived for a year in the Jezreel Valley. She returned to the States and graduated from university with a major in Creative Writing and a minor in Jewish Studies. She went on to get a degree in Nursing. Heidi worked as a nurse for thirty years, first in Coronary Care and Intensive Care, and then as a hospice nurse. Heidi and her husband have three children and two grandchildren.

Thank you for explaining this so beautifully! I was brought up presbyterian and I could never figure out what the word “saved” meant either. We were taught Jesus reconciles us back to God by being the atonement in our place. Other Christians kept asking about being saved. I did not understand. Thank you for your words! I wish I had heard this as a child.

Shalom Jeff, Heidi🙂. I am not a jew but I had the same problem. Saved ? Sinned? I am not a sinner. Being born into a hindu family, I had too many gods n goddess to pray too. Since I love truth, I just wanted to pray to The One n True Living GOD. I was in my teens ( 70 now) when I first accepted Jesus's Father, but not Jesus. Then afew months later while in church. Heavenly Father spoke in my mind n said, quoting " you have to accept my Son"; with those words I also got a understanding, that Heavenly Father can only accept me if I accept HIS Son, so I accepted Jesus.( notice HE didn't say Jesus, but back then we only knew Him as Jesus). It was many, many years later when Heavenly Father taught me to see things from HIS point of view. That I could see, that I indeed was a sinner, n needed saving, 'HIS Way', through Yeshua. So now I see everything from ELOHIM's point of View. ELOHIM is always Good, always Right, always Merciful, always Faithful 🥰🥰🥰 Baruch Haba b'shem YHVH 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

In the past couple of months, I have heard three testimonies of Jewish women having dreams and visions of Jesus. I believe this is the fulfillment of Joel 3. God is personally reaching out to His people. It is very exciting. God bless the Jews and I pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Heidi has such a glowing spirit that after watching both episodes I read your description and was SHOCKED she had grandchildren!?! I honestly thought she had 3 VERY young children all under 6 years of age! I have no doubt this is due to her complete love and dependency on Jesus and God always listening for the Holy Spirit for guidance during the day. I believe she mentioned in the second video she doesn’t go into the past or future but stays into today because that’s exactly where she finds Jesus who is always with her…with me….with ALL of whom He loves!!! that is everyone…even you who are reading this! Great information for a Christian raised in Catholic schools and communities. It sounded so much like the Jewish one Heidi was surrounded by in her youth. By age 12 we’d moved and I’ve longed for that sense of loving connection since…. It’s very very different in the southern Protestant Bible Belt. I’ve had people out to “save “ me and I didn’t have any context for what they meant either!! Love you both and grateful your channel and Heidi’s videos popped up. I’m going to look into the other videos and waiting for her book! God IS Love ❤️

The word "Saved" is used because without Jesus noone is getting out of this place. He is the door, as He clearly stated. The reason He is the door is because He brings us each to our own cross after we kneel to His. It's so clear to me now, but it took an act of God for me as well. This is a very good explanation. I had never heard it described like she did. Very helpful, THANK YOU !!!

If you struggle with the word "saved" does that mean you struggle with the word "salvation" It seems to me as an old 79 year old Canadian WASP and big supporter and defender of Jews, Judaism and Israel, that If through Jesus or even I prefer the name Yeshua, if now you believe as Messianic Jews that your eternity is guaranteed through him then aren't you now by definition "saved" This video at least gives me insight into how Jews would struggle with the concept.

Yes! Thank you for saying what I have been trying to tell my gentile Christian friends for many years. When you are witnessing and discussing end of life events with a Jewish person, you must use terminologies that they’re familiar with. If you tell them that Jesus Christ is the savior of the world. They will recoile because many of them, and their ancestors, were led to the Nazi ovens under the banner of the name Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is essentially the Greek form of the word Yeshua the Messiah. So to the average Jew the title “Christ” means nothing, and they think it’s His last name. Their family members were burned alive under the banner of that name! Please people, do not be so hard hearted against the Jewish people that you are not willing to soften yourself, and change your vocabulary to benefit them! ❤️🇮🇱❤️

Thank you for this. I love the Jewish people. There's a huge community where I live. I have worked for different Jews in the past and they are amazing people. As a gentile and new to their culture I didn't know how to witness to them. I prayed for their salvation and I just tried to love them like Jesus would. I found out through a third party that one of my jewish bosses said I was one of the best employees he's ever had. I don't say that out of pride, I just hope I represented Jesus well. I no longer have contact with them but I do pray they find the Messiah and I hope to see them in heaven some day.

Thanks for this. When evangelizing to African people they likely have a similar though slightly different response to the question "are you saved". They will respond with yes I am saved.... but it would be I was saved from the accident, saved from the venomous snake in yard, saved from illness, you get the idea. They *might* even say it was God who saved them from .... whatever. So the question needs to be more "is Jesus your Lord of your life?" Have you turned to Him? Etc. Thank you Heidi and Jeff for this. ❤

I was raised atheist and never heard about being “saved”, but I always had a sense that I needed to be saved, perhaps rescued, perhaps lifted out of the miry pit of hopelessness. I thank God for the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, my perfect Rescuer, my Redeemer, my Savior. The Messiah does not “help” me to be reconciled to God. He IS my Reconciliation to God!

I really appreciate your input, too Heidi. Thanks so much for the program. I have a few thoughts on the topic of how ‘saved’ is used in scripture… not in the present western ‘church’ context. Interestingly, Peter preached a ‘be saved’ message in Jerusalem on the first Shavuot day after Jesus’ resurrection. Let’s have a look together: Acts 2:38-41 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. This ‘crooked and perverse generation’ phrase harked back to Moses’ great song, recorded for us in Deuteronomy 32. I quote only verses 3-9… For I will proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe greatness to our God! “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he. They have dealt corruptly with him; they are no longer his children because they are blemished; they are a crooked and twisted generation. Do you thus repay the LORD, you foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father, who created you, who made you and established you? Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and he will show you, your elders, and they will tell you. When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he divided mankind, he fixed the borders of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God. But the LORD'S portion is his people, Jacob his allotted heritage. The Father sent His uniquely begotten Son and raised Him from death, as Peter gave witness to in his first sermon (Acts 2) for the nation of Israel uniquely. The Father of Israel (Deuteronomy 32:6) is calling His children again, yet, still, to be saved from this ‘twisted and perverse’ generation. He has always wanted them… as all the prophets have attested… to come back to Him. Now, He has provided the means whereby He can pour out His Spirit on them - on ALL flesh, actually - so that we ALL can know Him, follow Him, Love Him with all our hearts, minds, souls and strength… forever! Yeshua is the way… the Truth and the Life 😊

Thank you for the insights you give in this video! It was short, but full of information! When people would ask me, "What do I need to be saved from?" the standard answer would be "hell" but as I understand it, Jewish people also do not believe in heaven or hell? So there is a wide gap of understanding. Like two people who speak different languages!

There is this thing I use to describe difficult public policy: squaring the circle (putting a round peg in a square whole). Example, and bear with me, when we walk into a grocery store we want to see lots of good healthy food stacked up and sold at cheap prices. We also want farmers to make a good living so they can continue to provide food. But cheap prices and prosperous farmers are diametrically the opposite thing - public policy has to "square the circle" so that farmers are prosperous and food is cheep. Because of that the department of agriculture is one of the largest bureaucracies in Washington D.C. Likewise, Freud told us the id is our base motives, are super-ego is our conscience and the ego's job is to reconcile the two: the id & superego are diametrically opposed to each other - consequently the largest most complicated part of our mind is the ego - it has to square the circle. This was an understanding I had coming into this video, and what I am learning from it, is that's the job of Jesus: to square our circle so we can be reconciled with God. We are so lucky to have him and to have this, we can be grateful.

The whole saying “saved from what?” Is so crazy to me, because to me, its simple, saved from going to hell. I mean, unless thats not a big deal to be “saved” from, then it makes sense how she talking. But i could be wrong, but i just feel most people who think “saved from what?”, that specifically for Jews is there religion or how they brought up is the reason they feel like saying “saved from what?”. And, I apologize if I offend anyone, but also, i just think of the whole theme of the whole bible, from old to New Testament. That the broken record theme is the Jews, Gods Chosen people, are forever leaving God, going back to God, leaving God. And even to this day and forever until Jesus returns, that this is the main theme of the the story of the Jews, is this theme of leaving God, and going back. And hating the prophets and hating things of God, and then when things are so horrible bad, then they seek God only then. Then things get good and then leave God and party again. But to me also, in perfect parallel to this main theme of the Jews in the Bible and to this day, is its also the exact same story of ALL mankind. So, to me, the he whole story of the jews in the whole entire bible, old and new testament, its not just an exclusive story of the Jews. But there story is the story of ALL mankind. All human beings on earth go through the same story of Jews follwing God and then leaving God. Essentially, no disrespect like i said before, but all of humanity, we are all Jews. Because all people on earth did and continue to do exactly what the Jews did and do to this day. ✌️

Isn't it 'saved from eternity in Hell'? Yeshua's name means 'salvation', in Hebrew ... why? I believe there is importance exactly in finding out what this means, 'salvation from what?'. For me, this IS the context - and how I understand it. If Hell didn't exist, Jesus wouldn't have had to put himself through such horrific death in order that we may be 'saved', i.e. redeemed from our sins (through repentance and belief in Him) so that we may not end up in Hell, because that's our natural destiny and the consequence of our sins. Jesus warned about Hell .. why would He do that? Thanks for the interview, very interesting.

when JESUS spoke with Nicodemus He said "you must be born again" and no doubt you already know about that conversation? In description of the Holy Spirit HE made mention of the wind that you can feel but do not know withersoever the wind may go or from where. To me this means the Holy Spirit cannot be mastered, manipulated, tricked, decieved or "used" by man but comes freely to an open seeking and ready heart. Love, Shelly

He does not believe in the Trinity. But in my bible Hebrew 1, verses 8 and 9 referres Jesus as King and God to Psalm 45, verses 7 and 8 and names him God. But I do not speak Hebrew. And I want to know, if my bible is wrong. I know, there is somehow a difference between God and Yeshua, The son of God. But God's name Elohim is three in one with I and we. That sounds like Trinity.

Christians in many ways are fully fledged Jews. Jesus was the Messiah talked about in the Old Testament. I was raised Jewish and I remember going into temple as a kid never feeling God there. The first Midnight Mass I went to I very much felt God there. I converted to Catholicism at 25 and haven't looked back. From passages in Zephaniah and Zechariah everything about Christ's life spells out exactly who he is.

Hi The concept of ‘ Saved’ is STRAIGHT from the name Yeshua, which in Hebrew, means ‘ Salvation of Ya’ THE ENTIRE TANACH RESONATES WITH THAT CONCEPT STARTING IN GENESIS! And it was no strange thing to the Judeans of Yeshua’s time! If it HAS become unfamiliar to present day Jews it must be because of the Talmud replacing the Tanach in Jewish education! Shalom to us only in Christ Yeshua returning soon to reign over the world from Jerusalem forever.

1 Thessalonians 2: For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s communities in Messiah Yeshua that are in Judea-for you suffered the same things at the hands of your own countrymen as they did from the Judean leaders, who killed both the Lord Yeshua and the prophets and drove us out. They are not pleasing to God and hostile to all people, hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they might be saved. As a result, they constantly fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them at last. It means saved from God's wrath ...😊❤

Where does the phrase "saved" come from? Why do Jews for Jesus use it, if it is not Jewish or even biblical? Why did Christianity start using it and when? What is saved in Latin and Greek? Why don't you just put it like Jesus (a Jew) put it to Nicodemus (also a Jew) and ask them if they've been born again? If that's not the Greek wording, I would really appreciate a lesson on the actual wording of that incident in the gospel of John. Or put it to them as, who are your sins on? you? or the redeemer? But even before any of that, they need to be made aware that they are sinners, because it is the Law working with the Spirit that convicts and shuts the mouths of man.

GOD IS THE SPIRIT JESUS IS HIS SOUL, AND ALL GODS CHILDREN MAKE UP HIS BODY, AND ARE ONE WITH HIM SO YOU SEE, EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF YOUR FAITH OR DOCTRINE MUST FIRST GO THROUGH JESUS IT'S VERY, VERY, SIMPLE ISN'T IT?

Unless your baptized in the name of Jesus Christ you are saved from nothing not even your sins. Acts2:36-41kjv. Whole house of isreal has to be baptized in name of Jesus Christ for remission of sins.

I have several comments for you & your guest. Sozo Salvare Yesha ‘yah Salvatio Matthew 1:21 And she shall bear a son and you shall call him Jesus , for he will save his people from the sins. I hear you getting caught up on a WORD …. Is it because you just don’t like the sound … Of it… Or is just your own personal opinion, the word of God uses the word SAVED , SAVE, throughout. Old Testament & New Testament. You can not separate this. It’s as though you are saying Paul , Peter & all the disciples got it wrong, even Jesus. He used this word many many times. Your platform here is off base..in my mind. Repent… turn away… When the Holy Spirit moved He moved to reveal the very issues Jesus died for, to SAVE us, redemption comes through salvation… Christ solo Salva He only saves …. Concerned with your expressions on this word… Missing the point… I think..

So true. We are saved from our sins because sin is crouching at the door of our heart to destroy us. The wages of sin is death. We need saved from the second death. Unfortunately the word "saved" has gotten so misused by mockers that it has lost some context and has a stigma attached. If we give in to all our desires we hurt those we love and lose relationships we cherish. Or hurt perfect strangers and ruin our society. (For those who don't believe in sin). Sin hurts.

I was going to say the same thing, but Jews don't believe in hell. I think that's part of the reason they don't understand saved/salvation.

All have sinned that Jews don’t think that they are sinners in need of salvation it just shows how far away from the Lord God they are as they have mostly faith in anything but jesus

So do I but a group of people that have been in the forefront of Gods plan for the world as witnesses to his faithfulness have gone away from his love to seek other gods a reject the one of promise that would redeem then I know that us gentiles are in the same boat calling for help from anyone or thing rather than Jesus Christ

Heidi, in what way are you related to Abraham or Moses or even the physical Jesus of Nazareth, except in the context that you are descended from Europeans that converted to the religion of Judaism a few centuries ago? It's the same as why I was a Roman Catholic before I trusted Christ. I was born into a family that had at some point joined the Roman Catholic Church and were practicing that religion. I understand the natural desire to want to trace your roots right to Nazareth, or Jerusalem, but unless your ancestors were among those Jewish people that migrated to Israel after World War II, none of them has probably ever lived there! Even more important is the fact that Jesus is no longer the Messiah of Israel, and even if he is, his Messiah-ship does not apply to you because you were born after God let Israel go and they remained "lo ammi," as he had pronounced them/her in the Old Testament, Book of Hosea. Seeing as God either caused or allowed the original Jews to die off and pretty much completely disappear, it might be a better fit to consider yourself a saved believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, a Christian, like the rest of us that also believe. It's awesome that you managed to recognize that Jesus was Israel's Messiah back in the first century, but he is no longer Israel's Messiah today. I'm just concerned that you may be risking leading others astray through your case of mistaken identity.

Jesus soul is not a jewish soul! Jesus soul had numerous life incarnations There is only one god! The creator created god! Jesus is not god! Jesus soul is not the son of god either! Jesus soul is just that only a soul! Jesus was only a man who died! He got himself killed & could not save himself! If you have a soul you go to heaven! This is not larry! This is the senior foundation angel!
