I am wondering if anyone can tell me why after reading 4 different translations of the go rin no sho i see only the fourth form wit two swords in the video match the description in the text... What am i missing... Why is the attacker hitting air most of the time and why is there so much extra movement which seems to make the movement so inefficient... I would love to understand... How am i suppose to believe that they still do what musashi came to realize if nearly nothing matches the text... Please notice that i do realize that many of the things might just be done for practice and preservation of techniques and since i dont know the oral traditions it might just be my ignorance speaking here and after explanation all will make sense. Still i cant wrap my head around why the texts and the video deviate so much from eachother. Greetings and thank you🙏🏻
Because modern kenjutsu is not for fighting, but for display. These techniques would fail against any diagonal cut. Hell, the one at 16:39 doesn't even make sense geometrically., The opponent intentionally misses.
Because Tachi Seiho and Kodachi Seiho was not included in Go rin no sho. If you look at the demonstration from a sideview angle, the attacker looks like he hit the air but in fact the defender actually side step diagonally. Take the first single katana technique Sassen for example, it's basically a sudden thrust with one hand while stepping off the line to void the attack and aligned your body in a side stance to increase thrusting distance. Demonstrations are used to trick people into over thinking stuffs like this, so it would be easier to hide their true contents
You look at the kata from two perspectives: from the ryu/school perspective or from an outsider observer. These old schools have way of deceiving outside observers into misleading them and prevent some techniques to be stolen. Unless you are part of the school, it is tricky to really understand what is going on. So we have to cultivate a sense of humility when you look a koryu kata.
I really enjoy this video, but I have 4 questions... In Tachi Seiho: 1. Why in Hasso Hidari and Uke Nagashi Hidari, uke puts his bokken at his right side if Hidari means left? 2. Where is Hasso Migi, Uke Nagashi Migi and Kazuki? (Maybe I don't understand what he said in japanese) In Nitô Seiho: 1. Are those forms Chudan, Jodan, Gedan, Hidari Waki Gamae, Migi Waki Gamae? Did they show It on that order? 2. They show that maybe is Hidari Waki Gamae, to the left... So, why not in Hasso Hidari? 🤷🏽♂️🤯 It don't gonna make sleep 🤦🏽♂️ (excuse my english, I am spanish speaker 👋☺️🇻🇪)
Tachi Seiho: 1.En Hidari Ukenagashi y Hidari Hassō no importa el Uke, ya que siempre cortará desde Hassō Migi, la demostración de los kata siempre es “Hidari” o Migi, pero la escuela de Musashi en esos kata los denomina hidari ya que es de donde proviene el ataque o evasión. 2. Normalmente ya que siempre se demuestra del lado derecho o “izquierdo” según lo que ve el Uke; y si, ciertamente Kazuki no está, pero es muy parecido a Haritsuke Nitō Seiho: 1. Si 2. No entiendo muy bien la pregunta pero si te refieres a que si es Waki gamae Hidari porque el Uke no se pone en Hidari Hassō es porque no tiene sentido ponerse en Hidari Hassō ya que tú guardia de Hassō subirá un poco a Jodan para hacer un corte vertical pero no centrado. 🇻🇪 también, saludos.
