I had a university assignment to compile a biography about one of Hitlers Henchmen. Out of all of them Himmler intrigued me the most. Thank you so much for this documentary it was really informative and interesting. Very sad to think of what happened.
I have to be honest I was looking to watch this before bed and wasn’t crazy about the narrators voice but this was packed with lots of information and a useful context that you normally don't get in a lot of documentaries. Excellent video you earned a subscription

The documentaries on this channel are in a class of their own, in nearly all cases better than anything on paid video streaming apps. Interesting fact: The Nazis had one of the most progressive series of laws protecting animals, and those original laws are still on the books today in Germany, nearly unchanged.
Very informative video and well put together. Three yrs ago me and my wife visited auzwitch the most humbling place we have ever visited. The lady who took us round had a family relative who was imprisoned there she was one of those ladies you could have sat and listened to all day. Let not the prisoners of auzwitch be forgotten.

Actually, the architect of the "Final Solution" was Heydrich, the "man with the iron heart". Himmler talked a big game, but when he visited a concentration camp and watched people actually being gased to death, he threw up.Heydrich, on the other hand, *enjoyed* taking part of torture sessions and was utterly ruthless, shooting even kids in the head in front of their parents. The guy was a true stone cold monster. The only two men above Heindrich in the entire Reich were Goering and Hitler himself. He bossed around generals and high Nazi Party members. It's very similar to Star Wars, with Heydrich being like Vader and there being only 2 men out of millions above him in the pecking order.
I’ve read lots of stuff about Heydrich, including a large biography and I’ve never read anything about him killing anybody personally, let alone shooting children. Heydrich was an evil bastard and you don’t need to make stuff up.

No matter how many times I've seen docs on the Nazi's it never seems to truly sink in at just how evil some can be. I grew up w/ my grandfather and his war stories while in the Air Force so this topic is far from new. But it feels just as raw as the 1st time I learned of the sad sickening things that happened. Humans are a messed up species.

But while the Germans aimed their hate towards Jews, The Americans aimed it towards African Americans and the British, towards Indians. My uncle was killed at the Malmedy Massacre, and my grandfather, who was from Slovenia, had relatives who died in concentration camps. So many groups of people the Nazis hated. Even Jehovah’s Witnesses. Who knows where that came from? They might as well just have reached into a hat and pulled out a name of someone or other.

I do agree with you in that I wished that Himmler had failed in committing sucide but only because he deserved to be tried in Nuremberg along with his fellow Nazi colleagues like Hermann Goering, Rudolph Hess, and Albert Speer as he deserved to be tried for his role in the Holocaust and found guilty and either sentenced to death and executed via hanging like Hermann Goering nearly was or sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole like Rudolph Hess was although it is likely that Himmler would have been executed like 10 other Nazis tried in Nuremberg were as he committed all 4 criminal counts being crimes against peace, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and a combination of those with him being convicted of all of those counts with him committing crimes against peace by helping make a attack on Germany in a attempt to justify the invasion of Poland, war crimes due to his role in the mass shooting and deaths of civilians and POWs, and crimes against humanity due to his major role in the Holocaust and anyone who was convicted of 3 or all of those charges were sentenced to death and executed via hanging. He deserved to be put on trial and punished as it would bring closure to Holocaust survivors that one of the architects of the Holocaust was tried and punished for his horrible crimes.

The documentary forgot to mention that Himmler was so confident in his ability to negotiate separate peace with the western allies that he was rehearsing whether to greet Supreme Allied Commanders Eisenhower and Tedder by bowing before them or offering a handshake. The fact that he was shocked to be treated like a criminal rather than a national representative has to do with rumours that Himmler had in advance contacted Churchill who in turn was willing to provide some concessions, namely a joint war effort against the Soviet Union, but Himmler started demanding even more and was thereafter set to be eliminated in the interrogation camp but somehow escaped by committing suicide.
I always thought the attempt to negotiate a truce, and join the allies against the USSR, was an act of desperation. The Allies were committed to unconditional surrender by the time of their invasion of Europe.

But the Germans understood the psychique of both the British and Americans that deep beneath they too hated both Russians as a race and their communist ideology. Churchill in reality sympathized with the Germans but was pinned down by Roosevelt. Had a nut crack Republican been the POTUS at the time, there's possibility UK and US(if not France) would've made separate peace with the Germans and redirected their offensive towards the Soviet Union whilst continuing the fight against Japan in SE Asia.

Great documentary, just one note: Czechoslovakia wasn´t part of Germany pre-war, it was part of the Austrian empire before 1918, so Hitler didn´t go back to the german pre-war boundries as you mentioned in the documentary, he stole what was never his to take.
Correct, it was under Austrian Hungarian Empire. However, Czechoslovakia was Bohemia, which is a German land. Hitler was merely uniting a Germania, or Greater Germany, or Modern German Confederation that was around for hundreds of years. The Anschluss was the unification of all German lands.
