A TRULY SUPERB SINGER.

You can easily see why she was in such demand. She sang with all the big leaders. Goodman, James, Shaw, I think she was with Tommy Dorsey for a while too, etc. An ageless voice, she's been called "a musician's singer."

Helen was a fox even as an older woman

Her singing style, and big band music by that point became a hideous shell of what it once was. Loose, sloppy, over-emoted obnoxiousness. Sad. She sounded amazing in the late 30s and early 40s. Pretty much everything was that way by the 70s, though. Stale, bland, depressing, modernizing just because that's what society was supposed to do, and when you run out of good new ideas, you just come up with bad new ideas, but you go with them because they're new.
