I know what you mean. I think people are annoyed because of the lawsuit from Helen. I am sick of seeing videos where all you see is comments about how she'd copied so and so too. In jobs people are inspired by those who came before them. So Why can't people just appreciate the talent and enjoy the music.

After Helen Kane sued Fleischer for using a cartoon version of her, Fleischer showed that numerous other people were also imitating Helen Kane, and Kane made no effort to sue any of them. One of the various HELEN KANE IMPERSONATORS was a performer called Esther Jones. It is surreal how this has been twisted and distorted in the 21st century...

She copied her style in “ I wanna be loved by you” which is the song that made her famous. I don’t know where you’re getting your dates from but there’s proof that Kane took this style from Baby Esther which is why she lost her lawsuit.

But a singer called Irene Franklin had been doing the "Betty Boop voice" since about 1908. In addition, vaudeville singers had been doing what is today called "scatting" since the 19th century. The film of Esther Jones was recorded significantly AFTER Kane was famous. In it, Esther sings three songs that had all earlier been popularized by Kane. Kane's lawyers said the film should be recognized as "a Helen Kane impersonator", and the Judge agreed. The Judge ruled that Esther was "irrelevant, incompetent and immaterial" in the Kane v Fleischer case. It is only far more recently that some people have completely misunderstood what actually happened, and this "Baby Esther" stuff has gone viral. Edit... Here's a 1911 recording from Irene Franklin. Yes, 1911.
