► Quite possibly the most exciting DJ in the world right now, Helena Hauff finally returned to BR and tore the final set of our Dekmantel 2017 to smithereens. ► Subscribe to our YT channel: blrrm.tv/subscribe
I keep coming back to Helena's sets and hands down, she really is just the best out there and has been for awhile now. No posturing, no projection of some cultivated fake image or building a 'brand', just slamming tracks, good mixes and making people lose their minds in a way that has mostly been lost since people started caring more about looking slick and pretty. 90s Illegal warehouse heart turned up to 11.
I had so much fun listening to this, the music was amazing, she totally destroyed it and I ended up raving heavily to this entire set. It was a bloody blast and I loved every second of it :) Best set of Dekmantel, and one of my fave Boiler Room sets :D
hipsters keep talking about girls like amelie lens or charlotte, even the more vangard artirts like Nastia are not even close to Helena. great mix, great selection (always on point). just bang bang bang bang...the way we like it.
@Rootscontra: I think the hardest part about mixing is not the mixing itself. It's having broad musical knowledge, and having a knack for figuring out what flows best into what and how/when. I mean i have the technical ability to mix too; bothered investing in learning and took me about a month or so. But i'd be damned to make any decent a mix.
@MrMirkommk In case you did not know this sound was the FATHER of machine / trance / music, in the year 86 - 91 he opened ecstasy and it was a revolution in Belgium and Spain, but for this techno (yes, this was a techno side that died in 91) the genre would have stagnated more than after the mid-90s with the sound birmingham that is the one that prevailed, this and the euro - beat italo drove the slopes that would later be created in the early 90's That may or may not be another story but without this sound you would not be enjoying today because I assure you that many ideas came from this.
I’ve seen Helena twice now, once in Manchester just before she blew up and then around 2 years ago in Tresor at the Stingray Kern release party. Both times she was absolutely phenomenal. Mixing is always flawless, groove flows through everything she does, never compromises her style to fit in with trends or get more gigs. Doesn’t bother with social media either. Someone a lot of today’s top lever djs could learn from. More proof as to what can happen when a talent is nurtured as a resident at a local club (golden püdel I think)
Couldn´t agree more. Your post is 3 years old, still valid. Saw her live maaaany years ago in Unsound in Krakow Poland and recently in Sonar in Barcelona and she´s fire, hasn´t change!
The set reminds me of Dave Clarke when he did electro mixes. Same dark vibe in the track selection but Helena mixes with more precision and less clutter. The Baroness trumps the Baron!
After about 5 years I can say that this set is indeed the best Boiler Room set I've ever heard, this is the one for HISTORY! Revisiting it like this.. Pls do it..! The best set in boiler room history. Getting to the ending of it now for the second time! LOVE!
Amazing stuff Mrs. Hauff, this is the kind of set where the music has been as fkn well selected and mixed that all of us want to have all the tracks. Then we play it in our own way and immediately realise that is far far away from Helena's greatness. SHE'S THE ONE ;)
шîšтои excellent comment! Sums up perfrctly what a good dj does, 2nd listen sounded different, thats cos im .listening to peter van hosean at labyryth on souncloud lol!!! What an idiot, he,s ,more my thing but shes nailed her own sound, not easy, class! . But... Shes got One critic on here ,..... Mike Degress states shes ' another overhyped female artist very bad set"!im.on a mission, time,to shut the ignorant fucks up who make racist, misogynist homophophobic, qge/ trans phobic,or critic dancers... predjuduce in anyway towarrds anyone, its time tgey were told to get to fuck. . Techno is for everyone, regardless of any factor,,rare for anyone to escape these ignorant fucks,i dont hear him.arguing with me, And what an atmosphere, she is on fire, true artist rocking it her way 😀
Replying to myself lol. Seeing as 2nd listen it was Peter vsn hoseaon j was listentng to on sound loud while typing !3rd listen i heard the sinister ,yet deeply groovy perfect bpm and ....lots of weird noises, continually , which just make it truly unique ,its fucking ace ! And excellent comment guy is right,i iding tracks inn a set like this (is there one?) is like dissecting a Jeff mills set around 1990 ,which appeared to consist of him throwing records about ,juggling in fact .they were in and off so fast ( had to take a few short rests ,during whjch i observed this !) Helena fucking hauff breaking new ground ,amazing !
I agree. An awesome DJ like herself can make individual tracks sound so much better just by the way they mix them and what parts of the track they use and the energy and atmosphere that the track creates by the way it was mixed and the timing of how it was brought in etc. Not to mention the overall flow of the whole set and the ebbs and flows, mood and atmosphere...etc that is created. I like just about all the tracks Helena Hauff plays however I have listened to other DJ'S when I was on the dancefloor for the whole night and one song might sound especially killer when it sandwiched between a bunch of songs I don't really like. I end up buying the track and playing it at home thinking is this the same track? Lol.
"Allowed" suggests a shortfall in your freedom which I am fully unaware of... You ARE allowed to do that...and always have been.. Probably the common consciousness you are referring too and you don't want to upset THEM. Oh well.. your loss.
Hands down for the best DJ of the moment. Essential Mix winner, also delivering some great Electro/Detroit/Darkwave tunes at Residency BBC 1 monthly. She's making history, there's no match for her.
Incredible set, incredible energy! especially the closing (Zeta Reticula) is amazing! If I were there, I would like Helena to continue playing more!...

Guys, stop reverse-telecine transcoding your videos. You don't have to. It's going on youtube. Stop ruining awesome performances with useless video mangling. TY, again, for sharing though!
This is how a boiler room set has to be; people going out of their minds instead of watching their phones like zombies:) And she's playing vinyl? There aren't many dj's left who do that!
