I can't believe this has so few views. This is gospel for our survival

Without a doubt the most clued in, articulate person I have heard in possibly 'forever'. I have started a new public playlist (Interviews Everybody Must Hear), because information like this has to be heard. Playlists are a great way to share positive stuff, everyone can spread a new way of being by creating public playlists and promoting all this wonderful information. Even if you don't create any videos of your own you can help to flood youtube with positive ideas and thinking by creating public playlists and sharing just positive videos, we can each play a part in spreading the word and making the change we wish to see in the world. If you have seen The Social Dilemma ( film about social media) , the parallels between the trade agreements that have caused the artificiality in the global system and the algorithms that have evolved into these monolithic and ultimately destructive forces are clear. As Helena says, the arms have grown so long we can’t see what the hands are doing. The hands are destroying everything, and COVID is showing us just how disastrous things are, and perhaps giving us an opportunity to change. This message is urgent, thanks for producing this video 🙏

All i could do is nod my head and smile as i was listening to her as i was cooking a beautiful homegrown/local/organic pasta dish in the kitchen. I'm on less than minimum wage. Got smart about growing a little, storing a little and then using the extra money to buy local. If this is what you really care about, make the effort. It's not an exact science, neither is cooking. I guess that is why 75% of the less fortunate people in the world also live exactly like me. I don't see how that would be elitist. Far from it. Fallow land all over the place. Find it, rent it, do it.

Wow! I just learned about Helena Norberg-Hodge and Local Futures and her book Ancient Futures in Tikkun Magazine, under nonviolence in foreign policy. This is very inspiring and hopeful!

I think I need to watch this interview another couple of times to soak in everything she is saying - so many pithy points and important concepts to read into further.

For anyone who wants to be part of a way of doing things that facilitate natural happieness, balance with Earth and to understand how the "growth" economy is a planning that takes us further from community, environment, self respect, and more. So many clear and important viewpoints shared with specific examples of the causative nature of peoples decline (mental, physical etc). Helena shares how she experienced the traditional communities with values such as "I'm OK the way I am" combined with the knowledge of being connect with the Natural World and the young having place and purpose. Plus so much more. Listen now and allow this to permeate your thoughts as together we can be the change.

This is more going on behind the scenes than we are losing about one's own contact with people and the relationship between nature the elements.

Helena's concluding comments on the decline of small, local communities, highlights the sense of loss, uselessness, and decay many of us are recognizing as the decline of local civilizations. We need to move to the Transition Town model now, building community, supporting local agriculture, production, and services as the solution.

This why I think something positive can come of Brexit in the UK. Mismanagement may destroy it's potential, but if it actually happens it may prove a boon to some of the ideas mentioned in this video. The EU is one of those organisations that are too big.

Read "The Slavery of Our Time" by Leo Tolstoy. He talked about the future problems long before massive urbanization started to happen.

Certain regions in the world are leading the way with awesome participatory democracy models instituted as constitutional amendment. Austria's State of Vorarlberg may have been ahead of the curve because they set out to address the 'widening gap between the government and the governed' by creating an 'Office of Future-related Issues', inviting intelligent engagement in a milieu of increasing diversity (including Syrian and Turkish refugees pouring over their Western border). They instituted random selection citizens wisdom councils twice-yearly which has served to truly elevate civic discourse. Former director says: "Show me a model that yields such results, in 10 years I have not found it." This is a prime example by the way of what Michael Moore described in his movie, 'Where To Invade Next?'; a model conceived in the USA gains traction for governance in Europe, while here in the U.S, we have yet to institute it for our own Democracy. axiomnews.com/wisdom-councils-europe-glean-citizen-input ~*~ www.wisedemocracy.org/societys-breakthrough-2002-vs-present.html

I agree. The solution of localized production is the only way we can to ensure increased employment, reduction in transport, and a curbing of subsidized fossil fuels, will help to guarantee our survival.
