Bach is definitely my daily bread so to speak.. and also my favorite composer of all time. The amount of music in a single piece of his work is phenomenal. Unreal really.
In these current times of health, economic and political chaos, where the hope of improvement is very weak, listening to Bach allows us to remember that men are also capable of creating sublime beauty in appearance simple and pure. Bach's music is a balm for the soul. Magique Hélène knows better than anyone how to explain it and play it with this delicacy that is hers.
I really enjoyed this interview, having just listened to her performance of the Chaconne, which was a wonderful performance, her insightful views, and depth of knowledge are inspiring. I cannot understand some of the derogatory comments on this page!
Hmm, Thanks H.G, very insightful, as music of this ,calibre, will 4ever move all composers, players, etc, since (sacred) music is all about reaching the deep.st of our souls.. One can hear the Glory of God, so to speech..
Thanks for the comment! I would have added the information in the description but, unfortunately, I don't know these details either. I got the video from a Facebook group many years ago and the information wasn't given there.
"Bach's music is the only argument proving the creation of the Universe cannot be regarded a complete failure, and without Bach God would be a complete second rate failure".
Of course he can. If I am an artist and I am studying the work of Van Gogh, he is my teacher. If I am a writer and I study the work of Virginia Woolf and how she works her craft informs my own, she is my teacher.
"Back is the most unversal of all composers" ..... she should have qualified it as "Western composers". I am sure she does knows abcolutely nothing about non-Western music.
