I don't know of one single course that can cover "aerospace physics". I spent 10 years studying it and still feel like I've only scratched the surface. My advice would be to take the course, but recognize you won't know everything when you're done. I learn something every day. My other advice would be to tell your friends to subscribe here for my own personal gain.

Blackhawk pilots have a common prank they play on new guys. On long hauls, if a newbie has to pee, they'll land on the ground and let him exit the aircraft and walk halfway back, face the tail, and begin to pee. Once he starts, the trick is to feather the collective to slightly negative, reversing airflow and making his pee stream rise up over the urinator's head.

The last video in this Playlist was crazy! I don't think I've ever REwatched a clip so many times. Crazy you can even see the pilot almost come out of the cockpit, even his mic and muffs were dangling. Thank God he survived. Thanks for more awesome videos Destin!

It is either the cobra or the apache chopper that was designed to do things like this. They had to fit special fuel tanks and pressurized oil tanks. There was a lot of work in making one do that kind of stuff without stalling or shutting down.

The blade rate is not exactly constant. It's close, but not exactly. During the "why you don't need a parachute" video you'll see there's a special case where it's very different.

That view from the boom with the GoPro showing the swashplate was awesome and totally made it "click" in my way of thinking on the way helicopters input collective and cyclic control. LOL @ "meat servo"
@equinator4u
@equinator4u 12 лет назад
Another thing to bear in mind with the full scale doing 3D maneuvers, is most full size helicopters have whats called a flex coupling. It allows the helicopter to remain mostly level when applying forward cyclic as in forward flight. There are those that do not have this, but if memory serves, most do.

So impressive! I am a Mech Engineer working in the Aerospace Engineering world of gas turbines since 1996. I am completely amazed by your videos and find myself feeling like it is my first day in Thermo or Kinematics. I have crashed and burned my 14" RC heli and have decided to stick to my Syma 3.5 ch mini indoor heli. We need to have your RC pilot enlist and be our future drone fighter pilot. He could single handedly win any war with a UAV.

Ha ha. Meat servo... Not to mention the rotor head! The reason these rc helicopters can fly upside down is due to their rigid rotor system. Negative G's in a semi rigid or fully articulated head = lawn dart. Good stuff, bro. Learning things is more fun with toys. Thanks for putting the work into it.

I Love learning about the physics and how certian manuvers are possible! This is so much for a fifth grader but, I find it very interesting. I like how you compare it a little to a gyroscope, I study this stuff to one day become someone who makes this stuff possible and design the mechanics that make this possible. This is my FAVORITE class, physics and engineering.

Just a note about "anti-torque pitch control": Technically, pitch is rotation around the port-starboard axis, so it'd should be referred to as "anti-torque yaw control."

Maybe talk about P-factor, stalls, spins, airfoils, cg and fulcrums, altitude densities and the effects it has on naturally aspirated engines, and her engines! Jet engines are fascinating and would make for a great video.

Wow, I did not know helicopters were capable of this wizardy before this series. However, I also never really understood how choppers worked. This series is helping to clear that up a bit but I think they went into explaining the flippies a little too quick. It would have been nice to see the camera on the chopper of a normal flight (no flippies) to see how the swashplate and anti-torque play a role in normal basic turns and such before jumping into flips and diagonal flights and all that. Not a big deal but it would have made understanding easier.
