Helicopter rescue on Mount Everest

Helicopters have made a huge difference to expeditions on Everest. Not only do helicopters now bring supplies in and out of Base Camp, they are also used to evacuate sick climbers, and sometimes for rescues a bit higher up the mountain. But why can’t climbers be rescued above Camp 2 at 6300m? And why is it so dangerous to fly up there?
Flight Physicist Sophie Robinson explains how helicopters fly and why there is a limit to how high they can go. She also tells us about advances being made that could improve helicopter performance.
Dr Melanie Windridge summited Mount Everest on 21st May 2018. Find out more about the climb and the associated outreach project at melaniewindridge.co.uk/a-journ....

This vid was posted in 2018. I don't when it was shot, but a helicopter landed on the summit of Everest in 2005.

@ 3:28 that is not how helicopters generate forward momentum. Rather, it's accomplished by the rotor plane being tilted, to direct overall thrust in a forward direction. Exhaust from the engine is not part of this equation.

And this woman actually designs helicopters.

Madan KC had one of the craziest rescue mission in 1996 where he rescued 2 climbers. Back then, nobody had landed on Camp 2 as the helicopter went over it's limit and barely made it out.

It's not really a technical problem. Helicopters can already be built to fly at much higher altitudes today by correct design of engines and lifting surfaces in combination with lightweight structures. The real problem is of economical nature: who buys a helicopter that is specialized on flying at ultra high altitudes? A few rescue teams in the Himalaya but nobody else, as other models are much better for "normal" use. The development of a new helicopter costs billions of dollars - this just makes no sense for manufacturers.

I think she confuses the thrust/drag concept. How can thrust pool the plain? Drag means to pool, while thrust means to push, or what?

A 214B would fly higher right now

Seems it was more important to have a woman than accuracy. Almost every description of the forces acting on fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft was categorically untrue. There was also misuse and misunderstanding of the terms ‘weight’, ‘momentum’ and ‘power’ (to name but a few). Any schoolboy should understand why it is not true to say that an aircraft flies because lift is greater than weight.

Everything she speaks about is created by men, she is likely mainly taught by men and likely paid by men. They are quoted into positions in science for "equalizing" the proclaimed patriarchy. The girls claim to be oppressed, while they actually are privileged.
