This very simple heliostat is a development of my simple self powdered solar tracker. It's self powered by the two small solar panels. As this one is only a single axis tracker it obviously has it's limitations, however, when positioned it greatly enhances the lighting in my north facing workshop.

Great work! I could use this technology to dry up my lawn in the shaded part of my yard that gets very little light and is pretty muddy

Awesome work, but should warn you about the placement because the reflections are coming at the window it could lead to fire if you had a glass, vase, water cane or something that on a table in front of the window inside. It has actually happend before that a vase made with glass had some reflection from the sun almost started a fire at the table. It would been a fire if those people didn't see that in time and since the because the design are always moving the higher is the risk. And in our family it had been accident that it was some glass in the grass that actually made the house almost burned down. So it's very important do be aware about it the reflections making from the design could be very dangerous.

why is the light not constantly on one point?

As you see, it's not perfect. This is a very simple self powered geared system using a single axis tracker. When positioned closer to the rear window it provides free sunlight for a good few hours every day to a window/room that never sees the sun.
