I think a more direct and easy way to explain eternal punishment doesn't mean eternal torment is what is the penalty for sin? Death. The punishment of death is eternal. Unlike the first death that both the just and the unjust experience, which is temporary, as well all get resurrected, the second death is permanent or eternal. There is no second resurrection, no second chance to be restored. It's why Daniel 12:2 says they will be raised up to shame and everlasting contempt. God will NEVER forgive them to restore them. It's just like in this age, someone can be sentenced to 10 years or 20 years in prison. Their punishment is being locked in a cage with awful people, but it lasts a certain amount of time. Even a life sentence still has an end to it. However, the death penalty is permanent, eternal. No one has EVER been sentenced to death for 20 years. Even though we know that any death sentence carried out in this age is temporary, the idea is the same. And it's also why Jesus told us to fear God, not man, as God's death sentence WILL be eternal.

Please all of you who are slamming this person. You need to study your scriptures in context. He's absolutely right. I know things you've been taught or heard over the years. Get into your head, trust me. I was raised that way. I understand but I also didn't study. The scriptures with God and if you read them all in context, they all lead to that very same topic. And the truth of that topic. This man is right, not because he's right. But because God's word is right. There is no blasphemy being spoken here.

Unfortunately the deception is powerful… “You shall surely not die.” I’m not sure how God feels about such a pagan doctrine being put into the Bible, but Plato would be proud. They say “death is separation” but this is clearly disproved by God when he put the cherub with the flaming sword at the gate to Eden to keep Adam and Eve from the Tree of Life lest they eat of it and live forever in a state of sin, which is exactly what their pagan Hell would be! Keep on, you’re not alone.

That was GREAT about the 5 brothers of the Rich Man. I knew that had to be significant, but had no idea why. I did know it was a direct shot at the pharisees, who loved their wealth, and saw it as a sign of God's favor. The Bible mentions their love for money, just before it goes into this parable. But I believe it was also about the Jews and the Gentiles, as it mentions Lazarus being at the gate. Also, that the main character is the Rich man, not Lazarus. So those that think because Lazarus is named, that means it's historical fact, miss the whole point of the story.

So Luke believed that the unsaved would perish too? I thought that he believed in an eternal tormenting Hell because he said “Fear him who is able to cast you into Hell after he is done killing your body.”
@TheBibleSays
@TheBibleSays 5 лет назад
Luke was quoting Jesus as saying "But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him" (Luke 12:5). This is similar Jesus' words in Matthew 10:28: "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." The death of the body is one thing; God can resurrect us from that death, the "first" death. The termination of your self, your soul, - with no more hope of resurrection or life - is another thing, far more serious and permanent. It's the "second death" and there is no returning from it. In the second death neither body nor soul will ever "be" anymore. "Hell" in both verses is from the Greek _geenna_ or gehenna referred to the valley/dump outside Jerusalem. It was a place of final destruction back then, and alludes to a place/condition of final destruction in the future. "Destroy" in the Matthew quote is from the Greek word _apóllymi_ meaning "to destroy fully" according to Strong's Definitions.

Seriously!? The work is not yet finished? That is not true, brother. Jesus said, It is finished. No, the Lord did not make salvation available, he finished it, and saved all of his people on the cross. Please stop saying the Lord only made salvation available, that is blasphemy. Jesus came to save sinners, not come to make salvation available. Matthew 1:21 KJV - And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. John 19:30 KJV - When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Jesus is at work today, advocating for us with the Father, covering new sins by His blood and leading us out of slavery to sin . . . IF we are in repentance, willing to follow His lead: ■ "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous" (1 John 2:1) ■ "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." (1 John 1:7) ■ "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." (Jesus, in Revelation 3:19) On the cross Jesus made His blood available to cover our sins: ■ "Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." (Titus 2:14) Our sins REMAIN -not blotted out, not paid for- unless we come to Him in repentance, confessing and forsaking sin . . . THEN we'll receive His promised mercy: ■ "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13) ■ "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him . . . " (Isaiah 55:7) ■ "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord" (Acts 3:19, NKJV). ■ "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).

The more time that passes from the day i learned that the "eternal torment" doctrine was false, the sadder i get. To hear John Piper and Francis Chan and Billy Graham say with complete conviction that the unbeliever will live forever in unimaginable torment is incredibly jarring, even painful. Mixing the belief that God is just, merciful, compassionate, and loving, with the belief that he will condemn unbelievers to an unending torture, even for trillions and trillions and quadrillions of years, without making a dent in their sentence, has created enough cognitive dissonance in the denominations to result in a kind of insanity. A literal condition of madness. The damage that this belief has had on the wonderful name and reputation of the Living God is incalculable. The harm done to humans for over 1,500 years is devastating to contemplate. This demonic and pernicious teaching is pure evil, full of hate and cruelty Our praises to the Most High God for leading us out of this horrific doctrine, this mass deception on a global scale. May true believers of God, in Jesus Christ, be led out of this satanic belief.

There is a little logic why Jesus used the name of Lazarus in the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. Read Gen. 15:2-4 "But Abram said, "O Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer (a Gentile) of Damascus? And Abram said, " You have given me no children; so a (Gentile) servant in my household will be my heir." Then the word of the Lord came to Abram: "This man will not be your heir but a son coming from your own body will be your heir." The Hebrew name Eliezer is the same as the Greek name Lazarus. This seems to imply that since the Rich Man is Israel, Lazarus, is the Gentile nations and will not have the Abrahamic promise and covenant (representing Abrahams bosom) at this time. Israel was rich spiritually but the Gentile not receiving the covenant and promise given to Abraham, which represents his bosom was spiritually poor, destitute and degenerate like a poor miserable beggar. But after the death and resurrection of Jesus, Paul took the gospel to the Gentiles, which they began to believe by faith and are now grafted into the covenant and promise given to Abraham. But the nation of Israel is cut off for a time because they did not believe Jesus was the Messiah and therefore are suffering torment and pain in this lifetime and have begged to the Gentiles to grant them favors, that is why the Rich Man (Israel) is begging Abraham, have Lazarus (the Gentiles) do me needed deeds. The gulf fix Jesus mentions is the division between the customs of Israel that will not mix with the customs of Gentiles. That is sort of what I believe is happening in this parable because Jesus was talking to the Pharisees alone when he gave this parable. It has nothing to do with heaven or hell, but how the tables will be turned concerning Israel and the Gentile nations after the death and resurrection of Jesus. Paul in Romans identifies this concept in the book of Romans.
@TheBibleSays
@TheBibleSays 2 года назад
Interesting connection there concerning the name of Lazarus. Agreed, the parable is about *believing* and Israel's failure to believe, therefore believing Gentiles would soon take their place. Believing Gentiles (Lazarus) are pictured "in Abraham's bosom" because Abraham was a believer, acting on His faith and obeying God. The parable in Matthew 21:33-46 delivered the same message: Israel was about to lose its place to believing Gentiles, who will "render him [God] the fruits in their seasons" and who will later be the inheritors of the 1000 year Kingom of God. As you said, Paul wrote regarding this in Romans 10 and 11. My video about Lazarus and the rich man covers this.

Ryan, those who receive eternal life at Jesus' return will be ruling and teaching with Him, right here on earth: ⚫ "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." (Revelation 20:6) Jesus told His disciples what they would be doing in His kingdom: ⚫ "Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel." (Luke 22:28-30) Luke 19:15-19 is similar. I believe the "offices" are roles assingen in the 1000 year kingdom: ⚫ And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. (Luke 19:15-19)

23I am torn between the two". I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better indeed. 24But it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. " (Fil 1) Paul says that leaving the body is being with Christ and 2 Cor 5.8 and "willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” How can you be present with the Lord while out of body, if without consciousness?
@TheBibleSays
@TheBibleSays 5 лет назад
Regarding Paul's statements about being "absent from the body, present with the Lord" and "depart, and be with Christ." When the elect who "sleep in Jesus" are resurrected at Jesus' return their consciousness returns. Then, along with those "which are alive and remain," they rise to meet Christ. Nowhere does the Bible say they meet Christ before then. And they meet Him "in the air," not in heaven: "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) Paul understood that upon death a man's "thoughts perish" - his consciousness stops: "His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish." (Psalm 146:4) The dead are not conscious; they know nothing: "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing . . ." (Ecclesiastes 9:5). To those resurrected, it will seem like no time had passed since their last conscious moment at death. Paul understood that after departing in death, *_the very next thing he would know would be that he had been resurrected and was meeting Christ._* That seemingly immediate meeting with Christ was what Paul was referring to when he wrote "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better" (Philippians 1:23). Paul was confident and willing to die, knowing that as soon as he died the next thing he would know would be that he was with Christ: We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." (2 Corinthians 5:8) Paul was not a hypocrite, believing _he_ would go to meet Jesus at the moment of his death, but, telling the Thessalonians they would have to wait for their resurrection at Jesus' return before they could meet Jesus. No, Paul wrote that he hoped to attain the very same resurrection he told the Thessalonians about: "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead." (Philippians 3:10,11)

what about the spirit? "Today you will be with me in Paradise", how is that?
@TheBibleSays
@TheBibleSays 5 лет назад
The thief on the cross . . . Here's the account in Luke 23:43, KJV: "And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43, KJV). Actually, neither Jesus nor the thief were in paradise the same day. Jesus was in the tomb for three days and three nights, just as He said He would be: "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." (Matthew 12:40) Was Jesus really dead? Yes, He said so: "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death." (Revelation 1:18) Even after His resurrection, over three days later, He told Mary He had not yet ascended to the Father: "Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." (John 20:17) In the original texts there was no punctuation as we have today. The commas in Luke 23:43 were added, by later transcribers and translators. The second comma was added in the wrong place, giving the impression Jesus and the thief would be in paradise the same day: "And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43, KJV). Today some Bibles have the second comma in the correct place, removing the suggestion that Jesus and the thief would be in paradise the same day. Here's some examples: "And Jesus said to him, "Truly, I tell you today, you shall be with Me in paradise." (Faithful Version) "And יהושע said to him, “Truly, I say to you today, you shall be with Me in paradise.” (The Scriptures 2009) A translation of the early Curetonian Syriac text even leaves out the comma in question and still delivers the correct meaning: "Amen, I say to thee to-day that with me thou shalt be in the Garden of Eden." (F. C. Burkitt, "The Curetonian Version of the Four Gospels," Vol. I, Cambridge, 1904) Jesus was not in paradise the same day. Jesus was in the tomb three days and three nights, just as He said He would be. The thief is still in the grave, waiting for the promised resurrection of the dead: "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." (John 5:28,29) The "spirit" that we give up when we die is the breath of life: the same breath that God breathed into Adam to make him alive (Genesis 2:7). Without the breath of life, we're dead: "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." (James 2:26) Example: when Stephen was martyred: "And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." (Acts 7:59) "Spirit" in that verse (and in James 2:26 above) is from the Greek word "pneuma" meaning air or breath or movement of air. Today we have pneumatic tools - air powered tools. "Spirit" in these and many other passages has nothing at all to do with the supernatural. Stephen was dying, releasing his breath of life back to God who gave it.

We don't subsist after this life is over. There are no bible verses that says the soul continues on after death. There are plenty of twisting of the verses to suggest there is something that continues apart from the body, but only when misunderstood or used out of context. Genesis 2:7 the text is that Adam was not given a nephesh but "became a living nephesh." Nephesh ... Think for a moment, if you already have an immortal soul then why do you need God? You already have something that lives forever inside of you, why would you need a relationship with God? The Spirit that is in you is God Himself 1 Corinthians 6:17. You have no Spirit of your own. The Soul is not of the metaphysical. The Soul is something that has to be breathing and living. As exemplified in Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the BREATH OF LIFE, and man BECAME A LIVING SOUL. Notice the words BREATH, LIFE, LIVIbut SOUL. And not BREATH, LIFE, LIVING= DEATH. As exemplified in Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sins, IT SHALL DIE. To some preachers die means you are somehow still alive in some way, but to the Word of God, it means you are dead and you don't exist in any form or realm spiritual or otherwise. Humans are made from dust Gen 2:7; 3:19. We are not spirits living in a body of flesh. We are physical creatures, so no part of us survives death. When we die, our brain dies too, and our thoughts perish. Thus, Lazuli ras said nothing about his experience of death because the dead are unconscious. Psalms 146:4 Lord of Lords, 1Ti 6:16 Who ONLY hath immortality, only God has an immortal soul. Not man. When ppl say we have a soul is wrong. Scripture state that we BECAME a living soul. Gen 2:7. I think ppl say we have an immortal soul in just a desperate attempt to uphold (eternal torment.) 1 Corinthians 15:52-54 We are not immortal! We die, the Bible refers to sleep plain and simple. Study to make yourself worthy of the truth. If hell is as painful as Christians believe it to be, then the time will certainly come when the souls there will think they have had enough and repent and go back to God.”

But what about Revelation 20?
@TheBibleSays
@TheBibleSays 5 лет назад
You are perhaps referring to Revelation 20:10, where it says Satan will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. This happens just after Satan leads "Gog and Magog" - people from all over - in rebellion against Jesus at Jerusalem. And what happens? "And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them." (Revelation 20:9) Ezekiel 28:18,19 gives more detail about Satan and his fate: "Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more." (Ezekiel 28:13-19) There we have an explicit statement: "never shalt thou be any more." This syncs well with Revelation 20:10 which says he'll be cast into the "lake of fire": "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." The "lake of fire" is _defined_ as "the second death" in Revelation 21:8: "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." The second death is death from which there is no recovery. Those in the second death have no promise of resurrection and no more hope of life. It's the end of them. They will never "be" again, just as Ezek 28:19 said of Satan. Satan's "torment," "day and night for ever and ever" is permanent punishment that stands for all time, like the execution of a criminal. It is not perpetual, ongoing punishing. Jesus referred to "everlasting punishment" in Matthew 25:46: "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." (Matthew 25:46). The "everlasting punishment" is the second death: it is everlasting in the sense that it is permanent, final and irreversable punishment, like the execution of a criminal. It is not perpetual, ongoing, active punishing.

Perhaps you're referring to 1 Thessalonians 5:23: "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." When God formed Adam out of the dust, He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and Adam _became_ a living soul: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." (Genesis 2:7) That's right: Adam _became_ a living soul. God did not give Adam a soul. The Bible and pagan religion have different defintions of "soul." In the Bible we _are_ souls - persons - and we can perish in death. According to pagan religion we _have_ an immortal soul that floats out of our body when we die, and remains alive and conscious forever. The Bible says the person - the soul - that sins will die: "The soul that sinneth, it shall die." (Ezekiel 18:20) There were 276 persons - "souls" - in the ship with Paul: "And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls." (Acts 27:37) The "spirit" in many verses refers to that breath of life received from God, not to be confused with anything supernatural. Examples: All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;" (Job 27:3) "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." (Ecclesiastes 12:7, describing death) When Stephen was martyred, he asked the Lord to receive back his spirit: "And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." (Acts 7:59) "Spirit" in that verse is from the Greek word "pneuma" meaning air or breath or movement of air. Today we have pneumatic tools - air powered tools. "Spirit" in these and many other passages has nothing at all to do with the supernatural. Stephen was dying, releasing his breath of life back to God who gave it. "Spirit" in James 2:26 is from the same Greek word _pneuma:_ "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." (James 2:26) Without the spirit - the breath of life - in us, our body is dead and we are no longer living souls or persons.

Repenting -turning from sin- is taught throughout the Bible. A few Old Testament verses about repenting: turning from sin: God changed His mind about about punishing Nineveh because they repented: they changed their mind about continuing in sin. They "turned from their evil way": ■ "And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not." (Jonah 3:10) ■ "I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle." (Jeremiah 8:6) ■ "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13) ■ "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him . . . " (Isaiah 55:7) ■ “Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?” (Ezekiel 18:23) ■ “But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.” (Ezekiel 18:24) ========================================= New Testament verses about repenting: turning from sin: ■ "The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here." (Jesus, in Matthew 12:41. Obviously Jesus understood "repent" was in reference to turning from sin.) ■ "When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." (Mark 2:17) ■ "And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed." (the apostle Paul, 2 Corinthians 12:21) ■ "But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee." (Acts 8:20-22) ■ "And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts." (Revelation 9:20,21) ■ "And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds." (Rev 16:10,11) ■ "Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him." (Luke 17:3,4) ■ "And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds." (Revelation 2:21,22) ■ "I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance." (Luke 15:7) ■ "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that *repentance and remission of sins* should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." (Luke 24:45-47) ■ "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9) ■ "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
