Honestly, high quality shorter games are underrated. Not every game has to be short, but they definitely feel like they respect my time without artificially inflating the content with grind.

They didnt follow through with the promises and marketing, Redfall 30fps, Starfield 30fps, Hellblade 2 30fps and digital only, they dont even allow the option of physically owning it. If you own Hallblade 1 on Steam there is a making of documentary in the game. I really, really highly recommend to watch this. They did this kind of puzzles on a very strong purposes and because they continue the story with this character it is important to stay with the symbolic puzzles. Maybe they increase the number of different puzzles and refine what they reuse. This is no kind of "laziness" or so you really should watch the making of to understand why they doing it, after I watched it I could appropriate them much more. And if you felt the combat of the first one was very repetitive you maybe not maxed out the possibilities of the system, cause compared to most (not all, yes there are very much more refine combat games but than combat is the key element of the full game) other games.

if you enjoy movies more than games you'll probably love senua but to me its like buying movie ticket for 40 bucks that last 6 hours, im sure the first 2-3 hours will be fine but just like the original its probaly gonna overstay its welcome. We're talking about game that has more years in development than hours in content, nearly exclusively single target combat and mandatory puzzles that interrupt the games pacing... so what did the studio do for 8 years except produce an remake to the original and call it hellblade 2?

I just expected an upgrade with combat, it’s the 1v1 that makes it feel bland and the slight pause when enemies attack. Maybe it’s just me but the interactions don’t fit mentally with the context of the chaos. At least it’s on gamepass i might drop into it when another major game makes me use one of the codes I’m sitting on.

This game will be a tech demo movie game.

Honestly, I’m completely fine with it not being reworked. I love the first game. I’m actually kinda glad to know that they didn’t try to reinvent the system and potentially ruin it. Especially with it coming to gamepass immediately, I’m gonna eat that shit up.

It's a similar situation to the Order 1886 Game.. but I liked it a lot.

During the last Xbox showcase I had the biggest case of déjà vu when they showed HellBlade 2. It reminded me of Starfield. How they kept showing the same chopped up gameplay that we had been seeing. In HB2s case all the scenes were so dark and hard to see. Very little combat was shown off. It made me feel as if they were hiding something.

I’m a little curious how everyone forgot that Hellblade 1 wasn’t the last game Ninja Theory released. They may have started preproduction in 2018 but most of the team was working on Bleeding Edge until 2020. Also, even with Microsoft funding, the team is still really small comparatively.

The only issue I have with FPS is that we were sold with the PS5 and Xbox series x and new graphics cards that everything would be 60 FPS with high graphical Fidelity. Now all it seems that we just get PS4 quality games at 60 frames with not too many grapical improvements

The issue w the frame rates is we purchased a next gen console for just to keep gettin last gen quality w performance issues. There was no point of coming out w next gen consoles. It was basically to raise prices on games

Redfall was 30fps, Starfield was 30fps, and now this is 30fps. Maybe not a problem for the overall industry, but it's a huge issue for xbox. This 7-8 hour game not being able to hit 60 is ridiculous to me.

U know at this point it's not about only hellblade being 30 fps but that's the 3rd first party game in a row which is 30 fps and every game had it's excuse from them for being 30, i mean they didn't even keep their promise on "most powerful console" making it's fans look like clowns for defending what they love like which is not their fault , MS is just a disappointment... i mean why not give the option of performance or fidelity is it that hard? Not to mention games like that won't even make u buy a console or subscribe cz it as a reputation of "being a movie" u can watch it on RU-vid for free but i bet it's a nice experience to play

There's also the aspect that this was going to come with the launch of the X-box series....no definitive date 3-4 years later.

i loved the first game. Im going to replay it before the second game comes to gamepass.

I quit the original Hellblade the first time during the opening sequence, when she only used the oar on the right side of the boat. Which, if you've ever paddled a canoe, would make you spin around clockwise. I quit the second time when they insinuated there was permadeath if you lost too many fights (there isn't really). Ultimately, I played it through twice (once in VR) and enjoyed it. I'll probably buy this one. Thought the ending was the weakest part, though.

I liked the combat in the first game, it was feeling viceral!

The best way I could describe the combat for the first Hellblade, and this is just me. A very basic story mode. The focus is the narrative experience they want you to have. It’s not about a deep combat system with challenging enemy ai. It’s not a rage quit type of game.

I think the combat of Hellblade 1 is very underrated, i don't think many people have experienced all the combinations you can do because there is no tutorial. The third time i played it i still made new combo's there were new.

tbh I don't think the puzzle were that bad in the original, in my opinion, it forces you to think than just running to next action sequence or story beat. which would be uniteresting

If it were a little more grainy id say 5-6 hours not including bathroom breaks would be close to an older person's nightmare simulator

Here's the thing though a lot of us don't are about graphics and most people don't even play 4k at least on PC anyway. For instance I play in 1440p and a lot of these games are Targeting 4k and they run like shit. And the fact of the master is they're not giving people a 60fps option. In 2024 that is not good. Especially when you consider the fact that you can't really tell a difference between 1440 and 4k without a magnifying glass. Graphics should be the last things to worry about. Plus there's older games that look just as good if not better in 1440 and run better at 60+ fps.

While I agree on some points maybe, I feel like the things you are complaining of are nitpicky? Almost like the 30fps issue...... combat being, at least, as good as the first is not a loss. Not for a linear story-driven experience such as this. Played the first randomly - was on special and never looked at it prior - and was blown away by the experience. The combat being more basic than other games makes it way more easier to get through when you get into the hang of it to continue with the story but if you love the satisfaction of dodging just in-time and being able to parry like in other games with the same systems you will love this. It being difficult as well makes it a battle to get through, and you really do want to progress, to see what they throw at you next as you cannot possibly imagine the story getting any more mind-blowing. I would love of course a longer experience but if, like the first, it is about the same length and of course being on gamepass - you will not see me complaining as it is not another slog of a game to get through since I already have a few others! Really excited for this and again - if it meets the same bar that the first did at the very last, why bad, it good! unga bunga?

I bought a Series X for Starfield. Haven't used it much after that disappointment. Hellblade 2 and Stalker 2 are looking like I will be back.

Idc if its 30 fps if it actually looks like that. Also like you said 30 fps is fine in 3rd person action/adventure games + combat in Hellblade 2 isnt the main focus of the game anyway. Its a cinematic experience and I look forward to watch a lets play of it since Hellblade is not my kind of game.

30 fps is a big deal when you're using an 120hz LG OLED they don't handle 30fps gaming well way to much artifacting and motion blur 40 fps would make a big difference

This generation was advertised as 8k with 120fps the fact the cant get close to either is why people are so mad about 30fps in 2024.

Xbox says exclusives are bad, but then buys a multiplatform developer and makes the sequel to that first game that released of PS an Xbox exclusive. The bias is wild lol I played the first on PS, so being forced to play this on xbox is wack. Like I have both systems and a switch, but I like to keep game series on the same console lol

8 hours for about 120.00 dollars here in Australia so it's a hard no from me.. The first game was about 6 hours long so expect it to be over after work in the blink of an eye

Luke, do you think the graphics in this game really matters when most of the game is dark, colorless, and is constantly having distorting effects on screen? The graphics are very good but I wouldn't say it's pretty because of these things.

The combat is misunderstood. You have a light attack, a dodge, heavy attack and kick. Each of those has a running version of the attack. You have the parry, which varies from enemy to enemy. Then you unlock the Grymr sword later on which creates a new fast attack system. Then all of these together have combinations that are better for different enemies. Then you have the number of enemies - there are quite a few that all demand a different approach. The game does not tell you about all this. So most people play through the game thinking the combat was poor - it was not, it's actually quite in depth. It's frustrating when people parrot the lie that the combat is bad and repetitive.

Make a movie if you are making a project that is high fidelity and needs to be displayed in 30fps or lower. Make a game if you want to have gameplay that’s fun/addicting. This game sealed its fate and sales will show.

People get the wrong idea what this game is. This a story narrative driven game. With some 3rd person elements. IMMORTALITY is a 6 and half hour game. A solid 6 and a half. Great story. What remains of edith finch same thing. Hellblade is like this but in 3rd person setting. The combat is there to have interaction and move story forward. Its not a god of war or horizon thing. Yes technically it falls under adventure puzzle fighting game. But its not action adventure. Its just not. And because the dev didnt make this clear people have different views of it and wil be disappointment for them.

Yeah I’ll pass. I got stuck in a puzzle for hours in the first one only to find out I was stuck in a game breaking bug, I couldn’t continue. I deleted that dogsh** and never looked back.

I hate when people dismiss games as "walking simulators" It's just reductive. I got the same shit back in the day for liking JRPGs that weren't "real games." I don't know if games are art or not, but there is art *in* games that people can like over gameplay. Some people liked pong, some liked the text based DOS RPGs. Some people like Mario, some people like Final Fantasy. Cinematic and story driven games have existed for as long as games have. Given that, I never played the original Hellblade but the Xbox could use some more cinematic action adventure games. They obviously have a fanbase and getting a great single player game like that is a good thing. I agree about TLOU2, it can be draining but they did some amazing things with the ai. For instance there npc's that are bound to each other, and if you kill one near the npc bound to it that npc's ai will change and they'll cry and grieve over the death. There are a ton of different dynamic ways the ai changes depending on these relationships. It can be draining but it's nothing fans of Silent Hill and horror games like that haven't seen.

Shame this falls into the 'console war.' The first game was a great short story. Now all of a sudden instead of a sequel for fans of the first, it has to be an xbox flagship for some reason. One of my favorite games of all time is still Journey, which could be played from start to finish in 3 hours. When we look at games as content feeders instead of art we end up getting bloated ubisoft slop and live service microtransaction machines. 8 hours for $0 is fine, just like the first game.

What is really bothering me is the letterboxed gameplay this is not a movie jt is a video game and will bother me greatly if thats how it looks the whole game.

Honestly after playing so many games at 60fps with ps5. 30fps only games i don't buy. It makes my eyes ache and makes me feel sick. Every game should come with a 60fps perf mode as standard. Gamers should have the choice, if they prefer 60fps, its there, if they prefer fidelity, its there. Less options is never good!!

This obsession with fidelity, that's what is crazy. If something is locked at 30. Then it needs look like a movie, real life. A photo otherwise what are they doing?? Rise of hydra would have an excuse to be locked at 30, given it actually looks like that. Cinematics and trailers are not gameplay. This generation is a shit show, despite the good titles. A higher framerate improves visual quality, in practice it absolutely does, this obsession with fidelity is for children!

A lot of people hate dark soul's combat, yet fromsoft keeps building on it because it serves their vision. imagine having to juggle different mechanics while listening to the voices AND trying to do crowd control during combat?

Ninja Theory is that C-Grade studio that seems to get lucky with IP (Devil May Cry) or is creative enough with ideas (Hellblade) but never took the time to develop and refine mechanics and gameplay so that they actually get great game. It's sad because they have potential, but they seem to just be lazy.

Definitely a gamepass game here cause no way I’d spend 50 dollars on an game this short I’ve played indie games that were cheaper and offered more than a couple hours. Not gonna criticize the 4K 30fps as long as it’s stable.

I tried playing the first one twice and been hearing lately that the ending is epic but it was so boring I couldn’t get through it and her courage the cowardly dog mumbling walking sim was driving me insane
