Hellboy Does Horror: What To Expect From The Crooked Man | Comic Con 2024

Hellboy: The Crooked Man takes us to 1950s Appalachia where Hellboy (Jack Kesy) and rookie BRPD agent Bobbie Jo Song (Adeline Rudolph) investigate the sinister Crooked Man. Kesy is the third iteration of Hellboy, who has been portrayed by Ron Perlman in the Guillermo del Toro duology, and David Harbour in Hellboy (2019).
Hellboy creator Mike Mignola collaborated on the film’s script and joins us along with Kesy, Rudolph, and Jefferson White (Tom Ferrell) at Comic-Con 2024 to discuss the film and its move toward horror. Distributed by Ketchup entertainment, the description of the film reads as follows:
From renowned director, writer & producer Brian Taylor (Crank, Happy!) comes Hellboy: The Crooked Man, a film about survival in the face of death.
In the 1950s, Rookie BPRD agent Bobbie Jo Song is tasked with delivering a spider to the BPRD, but must seek Hellboy's help when things go awry. Together, they travel to Appalachia to take on the Crooked Man, who has been sent back to Earth to collect souls for the devil.

If you watch the other movies were very loose adaptations and didn’t adapt the comic…. They were comedy’s when hellboy is a serious horror comic..

What do you want that they dont have casual? Its a more grounded feel, more horror and not fantastical, its basically 1 to 1 to the comic, they arent playing pull a part and making their own interpretation bc what we got in the past isnt exactly what hellboy is for the most part,, just cause the desaturation is getting to you? It doesnt need a big budget to have a great story

@@psuedocreatura Exactly Mike Mignola hated that version because of the fact that it and this apparently his comment "mostly made Hellboy out to be a dimwitted jock whose first reaction is shoot first investigate later when in reality Hellboy despite the powers, and weapons was actually highly intelligent and knowledgeable especially concerning the paranormal and occult and is the world's greatest paranormal investigator who actually investigates and studies the supernatural entity he's hunting before going on the attack" plus Mike wasn't a fan of the more action-oriented focus that version had as he wanted the Del Toro films to be more horror/mystery/thrillers like the comics themselves.

Let it go. Just be glad we're probably getting a comic accurate adaption of one the best stories in the comics that actually has the appropriate horror/mystery/thriller vibe the comics have along with actually seeing Hellboy be the intelligent paranormal investigator he is.
