From renowned director, writer & producer Brian Taylor (Crank, Happy!) comes Hellboy: The Crooked Man , a film about survival in the face of death.
In the 1950s, Rookie BPRD agent Bobbie Jo Song is tasked with delivering a spider to the BPRD, but must seek Hellboy's help when things go awry. Together, they travel to Appalachia to take on the Crooked Man, who has been sent back to Earth to collect souls for the devil.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is written by original Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, and distributed in the US by Ketchup Entertainment.
The film stars Jack Kesy as Hellboy, Adeline Rudolph as Bobbie Jo Song, and Jefferson White as Tom Ferrel. Other cast includes Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher, and Martin Bassindale as The Crooked Man.

The budget is obviously lacking, but I'll give credit where credit is due - this looks like the most comic accurate Hellboy to date. The comics literally classify as dark fantasy/horror before action-adventure. It looks like the filmmakers decided to make a proper horror themed investigation story from the books, which is kind of what most of the stories are in the Hellboy comics. Budget or not, they definitely checked all the right boxes in terms of adaptation. Now, all this movie needs to be is interesting.

@arielgonzalez9993 as a previous commenter said the creator wasn't much involved in previous works. Even in the last movie, the director was pushed to the backseat by the studio. They drastically edited and changed the flow of the movie to try to be more in line with more superhero movies. Hollywood needs to learn the fact the source material is from a comic doesn't mean it has to be the the same as all other comicbook movies. This trailer gives me hope it is closer to the comic roots and not some action/adventure movie with bad "comedy" shoved down our throats after every other line.

The CGI is definitely rough, but im more interested in what the writing brings to the table. People are dismissing this too soon just because it isnt their exact idea of what theyd want out of hellboy. Gotta at least give it a shot. Despite the seas of negative comments im, STOKED by some of the film choices. Namely, giving off the expectation that this movie is going to be a horror film with hell boy getting involved as opposed to mainly action. While it does lose the charm the other films emanate it does still look interesting. Yall must not read the comics, the crooked man isn’t a action romp, it’s 1000% noir horror.

Why are people criticizing it for seemingly low budget? Hellboy is a supernatural detective and this fits perfectly into the genre he’s made for. Yeah he’s not saving the world but this is mostly what he does…

they're criticizing it for looking low budget not being low budget. While this has half the budget of any other hellboy movie it's critical to remember that 30 million dollars is actually loads in the scale of niche and low budget horror that seemingly low budget is actually a lot. The real question is how does this have 5 times the budget of a conventional low budget movie with ~6 million with no major faces and it looks like this?

From what I've recently learned, this is the only Hellboy created with the original creator having hands on the entire time/co'wrote the screenplay. So its giving off those vibes, hopefully, because thats what the comics do. Thats the vibe of the books. At least from the ones I've read, Hellboy isn't the main character. The "main character" or plot device is the "crooked man" of that book. Which is always more interesting anyhow

There is no source. Because that's not what happened. Hellboy the Golden Army didn't hit at the box office to justify the budget it had. Del Toro was not willing to take a significant budget cut, So Sony scrapped the third movie. @TheFLAMEXD

Glad we are actually getting a Hellboy story from the actual creator of the comic. The Ron Pearlman was ok at best and David Harbor one was just horrendous. Half the people complaining about the fan made look go pick up a Hellboy comic. The art wasn't the greatest but the stories were astonishing. You don't need big $ to tell a great story.
