Sheriden Boord - Trash talking, big egos and shop horse play / pranks are a very disappointing thing about a lot TV automotive shows. I though Ed China and the guy with the quality shop in New York were very good. The various guys on TV that build things that look like expensive low riders with oversized wheels are hard to watch. Everything is "badass and cool" in their minds

Tell the government to put some effort into keeping these trades alive instead of allowing technology to create disposable replacements, destroying more 'skilled' industrys every year. At least that's how it is in Australia & we are obsessed with copying America so I assume its similar there.

That kid is very lucky. 40 years ago, at age 18, I working at Pontiac Pete's shop in Brooklyn. I had the 68 LeMans about 6 months and just got the M/T 421. I was ripping out the 389 and prepping the engine compartment when Pete came by. With his help I had the 389 out and the 421 in one Sunday afternoon. From that day on Pete was the angel on my shoulder. Your are great mentor. The way of the muscle car will never die. Tommy

As a former bottle baby I have some advice for those that want to run NOS so you can learn from my mistakes. There are several things you can do to keep you from scattering your motor (and your wallet). First install a wide open throttle switch. That way if you forget to let up on the NOS button when something goes wrong your motor doesn't keep revving when you let up on the throttle. I buzzed a 440 to around 9 grand from this mistake and melted a piston. Second install a low fuel pressure cut off switch so if you lose fuel pressure the motor doesn't lean out a cook the motor. Third for any kit over 100 HP I strongly suggest a dedicated fuel system just fur the NOS system. If the kit is over 150 it is almost mandatory from my experience. The only thing this system should share with the normal fuel system is the gas tank. Separate pick up, fuel lines, pump and pressure regulator. For any kit over 100 hp forged pistons and increased ring gap is a good idea also. NOS greatly increases the cylinder temp and the rings expand more and cause the piston to separate from the first compression ring locking up.
@carlcampbell6827
@carlcampbell6827 4 года назад
Micheal Wilkening - Do you think NOS kit installations are on the way out, becoming obsolete? Honestly who can afford to risk catastrophic failure on a high quality motor?
@crankychris2
@crankychris2 4 года назад
@@carlcampbell6827 It's a valid question considering that a stock hellcat with an undersized supercharger pulley and a custom tune will put out 800 rwhp reliably on pump gas. A lot of people installed NOX "quickie" kits with 2 solenoids mounted in a plate under the carb for 150+hp and cracked a stock cast piston. Especially if they went too lean on boost.
@trailertrashlee2778
@trailertrashlee2778 4 года назад
Yes, you are referring to a wet shot. The old plate style fogger systems work but were catastrophic if fuel ran lean resulting in broken pistons. The wet shot setups resolved a lot of those issues and are much safer at higher NOS doses

Don Rutter I never took the hood off of a customers car when I was a mechanic the only thing I ever removed the hood on was my race car cause I would only have one day to pull it out rebuild it and put it back in and get down to the track to run again so removing the hood saved a bit of time cause it’s nice to get a few hours of sleep before dragging till 2-3am on Sunday morning when you got to the track at 11am on Saturday and then driving sometime 4-5 hours home depending on wear we were racing at the next day we raced 3-4 days a week but that was a huge part of our income back then the first place purse in pro was $3-10k on a regular old Saturday night at the National’s pro payed $250k first place so when your racing for that kind of money time is money so things have to get done quick

For nitrous, I mounted a $1.00 microswitch on the carb flange with scrap sheet metal. That way the nitrous and water only hit at full throttle. Similar setup on the brake pedal when released. It worked great for bracket racing and was super consistent. Our cars were crazy on our 60ft times even as weather changed, this is Oklahoma after all. I hope this helps some one.
