He really thinks Matusow is gonna fold TT with 15k already in the middle and Hellmuth is short stack squeezing from the Big Blind, while obviously trying to oversell his hand.
Phil is the idiot. Keeps playing and getting mad and acting like a child throwing a temper tantrum when he loses.vHey Phil a piece of advice for you. Quit playing and you will have no reason to throw a temper tantrum.
Yes, because they called with something you don't call with and got lucky. If everyone did that there would be no skill left in the game and you might as well play snap. If you don't get that, you don't actually understand poker.
Phil "If you win... You don't know how to play." Hellmuth. What you said is his favorite line, the venue enertains his antics for drama to make high stakes more interesting and watchable. My question is how does he get them to waive penalties and is that is a contractual obligation?
Although I get the point you're making, he is a legend of the wsop tournaments. I personally don't think he's as good as he'd like to think at cash games. He's mad if he genuinely thinks he'd be favourite against Phil ivey at a cash game...
Lol. It's like "he didn't tell me the last 5000 times I swore, why is it different now?" Well, maybe because he didnt want to make a big deal out of it and wanted to give you a chance to figure it out on your own, and then figured it wasn't going to stop. Doesn't mean he was ok with it the first 5000 times. FFS
Phil is angry that he lost and that's it. It has nothing to do with fairness or reason. It has everything to do with the sting it causes his ego, and the ego can twist everything in the world into evil when it is injured. No matter what happens Phil will react to it in anger, simply because he's losing and can't cope.
@@bryanpinto4051He is also more well known than everybody else in that room combined, he brings viewers. He is a pretty normal guy in real life, he plays this shit up in games so his name gets tossed around and he can wear his retarded ad merch he gets paid for. Of course people on RU-vid eat this up like it's a real person.
Phil is always so dead set on _"trapping"_ someone, or outplaying them that he just completely neglects the smart approach in these situations. He says they _"have it every time",_ but the truth is, shoving AJ top pair, w/4 to a straight on the board is just silliness.
Yea that was some 1/2 NL shit. Even betting into 4 opponents with AJ on JT9 is a bit questionable. Ivey's call on flop is pretty loose and I think that's why Hellmuth didn't think he would have an 8 that often.
@@avatarofcloud I have played in 5 vegas tournaments and won all 5 of them, using the "old school trap" method. 15k up for 15 hours of work using your supposed "outdated" method. It does work. You just can't trap yourself, as Helmuth loves to do.
"He made a bad call against me with tens...." Dude assumed Phil had an ace, it was the right call and Phil lost. But everyone who beats him is an idiot.
@@DrOmegaBattleSphere it also makes the likelihood of him having pocked jacks or queens high too. Whatever he was assuming, it was clear he had some type of over pair based on that information alone.
For some reason when I read this comment I was thinking Phil Ivey (even though it’s literally a video about Hellmuth, I’m an idiot) and I was like… hey! Leave Ivey alone he’s not like that! 😂
I don't think he was over his head, but I think he has a true gambling problem. At least on clip after clip I've seen of him in spots like this, he pushed the situation because he cannot stand to lose. That is a sign with someone with a gambling problem. Truthfully, if it wasn't for his endorsements, I think he'd be in real financial trouble.
"he gets lucky against me every time" = he's better than me and can read me but my ego won't let me see it. phil is a good tournament player, but shit at cash games (against other top pros)
Matusow played that hand PERFECTLY. There was no grounds for Helmuth to criticize him in any way. And he was saying, "I've got a bad feeling about this one." Sure maybe that was table talk, but I think he knew he was beat and called anyway. Phil's main problem is that he consistently overvalues his own hand. If you go back and watch all the "bad beats" videos, he's calling or shoving with a pair of queens, or a draw.
Phil should get together with Dave Hester and travel cross country As long as they get in serious trouble maybe even fight each other they get millions of views
Thought the same. Nothing on the river would beat the straight that Ivey's likely betting on. Unless he thinks he's bluffing I'd be folding every time.
But why would Hellmuth have put Ivey on 8s when there are 3 overcards on the flop... not to mention he lost $200k, you're only kidding yourself if you say you wouldn't be equally, if not more tilted.
Phil taking of his sunglasses is the biggest tell as to the strength of his hand. If he folded everytime he took his glasses off he would have been a poker god by now.
the way Phil's mind is rationalizing and finding excuses not to blame it on himself is just mind boggling. This is a prime example of somoene doing mental gymnasitcs.
9:41 *Doubtful Hellmuth* - With 4 people in and Hellmuth betting on the flop, good chance he at least paired, because anyone remaining likely paired or had a high pair or is on a flush or straight draw. Ivy just calling rather than raising back hints he doesn't have trips or a higher pair or straight yet. Hellmuth checked on the turn because Hellmuth lives and dies by the slow play, when he should have raised to sniff out Ivy's hand - if Ivy calls he's probably on a draw, if he raises back he probably hit. If 7 8 or Q hadn't come on the turn after Hellmuth checked, Ivy would have taken the free river card with 10 outs to trips or a straight.
I’d love it if when Hellmuth goes all-in, all the players would agree to call and if he doesn’t win the hand, whoever wins gifts everyone their money back other than Phil, in front of him…
@@billymabum3514 Some hands are just better than others, sometimes by 90% chance of win or more, so this is not 99% luck, it's statistics and knowing how to bluff.
“I have a bad feeling about this one Mikey, you have Kings?” Phil Helmuth to Mikey and the rest of the table… I have AK, AQ I’m all in 😂 Love how he talks himself into trouble.
Meh... It's relative to the stakes. A 300 big blind swing is nothing (assuming it's 500/1k). An appropriate bankroll should be able to absorb it comfortably; if it can't then he/she shouldn't be in the game at all.
Imagine going all in on an pair of Jacks when it should be painfully obvious that your opponent has a straight. Then having the audacity to tilt yourself completely out of the game.
On the AJ hand I push all in on flops like that with straight draws. I want to scare off the runner runner hands or the guys on the draw. Phil is out there letting them catch rivers.
Helmuth... you have to love him or hate him. But, he never disappoints. Truly one of the most charismatic characters to sit at the table. I miss the old players such as Sammy Farhar, Freddy Deebs, Mike matusow, Antonio esfandiari, and the like.
Phil is such a bad cash player. There’s no reason for him to go all in with ace queen there for that much then berate the guy who had an actual hand. I’d love to see someone stand up and aggressively tell him to shut his mouth
Hey that after interview just shows he's a class act he calmed down and talked a little poker with that dude. I would love to play poker with Phil Helmuth someday it would be an honor
@@RodJeez hes not a good FULL RING CASH GAME player. nope. ive seen 1 2 no limit players play better than him at full ring cash. hes horrible and a POW
The problem with Phil Helmuth is he frequently gives away too much information as to the strength of his hand on the turn. Why would you labour over a call on the turn? Then make a clearly crying call, because you have another street of betting. He has done this sort of thing many times, he gives away his hand. You should only ever do this when it's on the river and the call is final and closing the hand. That said, Helmuth is often touted because his tantrums are funny to watch, however, he is a great player, and always loses with grace in the end.
he gets frustrated, and then he levels himself into thinking that he's doing something clever with his talk, when really the whole table knows what his cards are. Especially that table. He can beat the joes but not the pros.
Hellmuth is a great player no doubt but sometimes he has to realize he’s out classed and other pro’s are better. He’s better than 99% of players but the 1% of situations he has got himself into have cost him millions of dollars over the years.
He's a great short stacked player, awful deep stack cash player most $5/$10 would felt him. But Tourny with increasing blinds there's not many better than him, especially considering the longevity of his success
He played that AJo pretty much as bad as humanly possible. The fact that he's done well in tournaments is just a testament to how much of a joke the format and fields are. And he must have run exceedingly good overall.
Hasn't cost him shit. It makes him more fun to watch, drives TV deals, they stake him in tournaments, so he's always losing nothing, and winning half. He is genius for keeping people emotionally involved in the broadcasts. (Yes, I know Helmuth has his OWN bankroll as well, just bringing up, its TV guys. You don't get cameras pointed at you unless you've made some kind of deal.)
Love Hellmuth's candor and honesty in the interview. You definitely shouldn't play undignified and unhappy especially if floor man is showing poor discretion
