There was a version of this Dayton TV 2 promo with a bluegrass band (The Muddy River Band) and my mom singing it (Lora Murphy). I remember it had views of the air show and was probably around 1983 as well. I would love to see this if anyone has it.
The CBS station where I live, Cape Girardeau, MO's KFVS-12, played this jingle, too, except they replaced Dayton with "America's Heartland." Even today, its news team is called Heartland News.
Shoe-horning "Dayton" into this melody really doesn't work. I remember this tune from Hello Calgary, circa 1980, only recently learning that it was used by tons of other cities. I wonder which was the first one. Well, it wasn't too hard to find out. The first place to use it was Milwaukee in 1977. Calgary was second. Songwriter Frank Gari couldn't remember if it was Calgary or Utah, but if you look up the Utah version here, there's a comment from one of the producers saying it was 1981 or 1982. I can attest that Calgary had it no later than 1980, possibly earlier. There have been untold numbers of cities that copied it. So yeah, all of our childhoods have been ruined. You're welcome. 😄
