Wow, thanks for the upload! I kind of thought this show was lost. What a strange experience to be able to watch an episode. I guess I can see why it didn’t last, the dialogue isn’t exactly sparkling… but honestly, it seems pretty harmless? And definitely not The Worst TV Show of all Time like some seem to think. It’s pretty typical “wow I just can’t relate to my teenage kids and their behavior worries and frightens me” sitcom stuff. Though maybe I’ve grown too old to relate to kids, too… because as soon as I heard that this 13 year old was seeing a 17 year old, I “tsk”ed aloud and shook my head. 😅
This is one of the best actors from the 70's. MacLean Stevenson is so talented, hilarious, and has the most bizarre lines. As Lt.Col Henry Blake he used to drop those goofy lines all the time. I'll never forget when Major Frank Burns and Major Margaret Houlihan sent another message to one of Margaret's many General "friends" about Henry Blake being unfit to command. His response to Radar, "Those two poops are going to drive me Dippy." His interactions with Corporal Max Klinger were also epic! The first three seasons of M*A*S*H are my favorites, although I love the entire series. MacLean Stevenson was a rare actor. He had the physical comedy, and his line delivery was always spot on perfection! I remember this show, Hello Larry. I also remember them making guest appearances on Different Strokes. I also had a huge crush on Kim Richards. If I remember correctly she was also starred in the Disney movie Escape From Witch Mountain. She was so cute back then. Hello Larry was a fun show. I really wish there were more complete episodes available.
This boy that played Tommy, was in Square Pegs. Don't understand why his career didn't take off. He's a funny guy. I was the same age as Ruthie. When boys started noticing me and I wasn't able to be left alone with him either l o l. My sister was pretty cool about it. But she would pull this stunt to and pay somebody to watch me.
Kim Richards, talking on the telephone, have an explicit conversations about adulthood. She don’t want to have a baby. Her sister is damn fine.❤ I love you Kim Richards.❤
Kim Richards she’s growing up very fast on this TV show she told the guy I’m not trying to make a baby but I don’t wanna have one this TV show is too funny the 80s Hollywood
McLean Stevenson said later that he wished he had never left MASH. He simply didn't want to play the "straight man" for Alan Alda. After this fiasco and several other sitcom flops he admitted it would have been better to be a "straight man".
@@thomasdonohue1833No…I think he didn’t want to be second fiddle. Same with Trapper. They both thought it had become the Alan Alda show and lost sight of how quality it really was, especially compared to the rest of what was one at the time
@@pts5217 Wayne Rodgers said he left Mash because he didn't think it was going it was going to last beyond 4 or 5 seasons and he wanted to pursue other interests. He said if he had known it was going to be on for as long as it was he wouldn't have left. McLean and Gary left because they thought they were the stars of the show and would become big stars if they left the show. Ego is a horrible thing. I bet McLean and Gary were insufferable pricks on the set.
Sweet Jesus I remember this entirely! I thought this show was so funny at the time. The girl, Ruthie, was so much like my cousin who I thought was hilarious but not as cool! That theme song is really rocking too! wow The video glitch makes it even more of a fever dream!
In 1979, I went on a field trip with Mr Duffy's theater class. We saw Hello Larry and The Jefferson's taped. It was awesome. I can remember it like last night.
This show was censored in my house after the pilot episode, lol.( Little too racy for my parents.) I think the first several episodes were shown in a late time slot (on the West Coast, anyway) then later, it came on after Diff'rent Strokes? This series is kind of like One Day At a Time in reverse: dad instead of mom as single parent raising two teenage girls.. Same kind of teen girl drama/angst/plotlines with parent not liking the boyfriend. 😅
One Day At A Time with an early version of the Different Strokes theme song. And is that the Good Times apartment? I remember watching it for the cute Witch Mountain girl.
Hey! Thanks for uploading this episode, it was interesting to see. This episode had a good lesson for what's usually deemed as a "bad" show. Also, little question as a production logo enthusiast and a television archivist. Was there anything else after end credits? (like after the video ends, did it have any production logos or did it just cut to commercials?) Mainly asking this for research purposes regarding obscure logos as a hobby. :)
It’s because all they talk about is they’re daughter growing up that’s it. 0:46 oh my god is that creepy? Edit: it turns out she has precocious puberty. Her boyfriend should go to jail I don’t care if he’s 17 he’s almost to adult hood. 5:13 there’s a bad pun.
a combination of factors. This was the 3rd very public attempt to put McLean Stevenson into a successful sitcom vehicle, having been wedged into two prior ones, and this one was a clear copy of One Day at a Time. Johnny Carson started making fun of the show by episode 4, and it became a 'thing' to pile on. TV critics were merciless, and the title made it easy to make fun of.
Hello Larry is worse or than the Brady Bunch girls in their hormones. I have to talk to you about the birds and the bees 🐝 You might get pregnant 🫃 lol 😂
@@danielboom72 I love your comment pointing out the need to be grateful when someone is nice enough to upload a privately owned 45 year old VHS tape. Especially when a posse of Net Sherriffs made that guy from Australia take down his Hello Larry videos. Having one complete episode back is priceless.
This girl, Kim, Richard, your hormones are all screwed up. You trying to be a lady at a young age your sister got your back.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you don’t wanna grow up too fast he might get you pregnant Lol 😂
