Hello Sailor @ the "Outrageous Fortune" tv show Xmas special on Campbell Live, performing "Gutter Black" (OF's theme song) Rusty Nail, Auckland, New Zealand 19-Dec-2008
September 4 1 pm today Oh man I can’t believe it. I was just driving down Dominion Rd... On ma way home... the rain was falling. Not long after passing Graham Brazier's second hand book store....on the airwaves I heard the faint message that he had died..... I had to pull over & join the rain with a few quiet tears… Just lying in the gutter. R.I.P Graham...
RIP, Graham Brazier..met you in the bar at Sky City a few years ago..you chatted away happily about music ,about life..I found you to be a real gentleman.
+Billy James I met The band HELLO SAILOR at one of their shows at the Whiskey on the Sunset Strip in 1978 - - They were all very good men - - GRAHAM BRAZIER was also a good artist too - - He even drew a sketch of me that night - - I only wish I would find it - - Hollywood Joe hollywood joe here at youtube with many videos
Watching this feeling sad for the loss of two our best muso's. Had the pleasure to meet Graham and Dave many times with and with out their various bands. Both top drawer blokes who hopefully are sitting there together, smoking a spliff and basking in the glow they rightfully deserve for creating music that touched the hearts and souls of so many Kiwis.
'Philip Gordon Brazier was originally from Liverpool. His mother being Scottish, his father was a native Liverpuddlian. PG Brazier left Liverpool at the age of 14 to join the Merchant Navy - as many young men of the time. He was very enamoured with the idea of Marxism and later life would see him become an active member of the NZ Communist Party and a staunch Trade Unionist.'
Great for Campbell to do this get legend kiwi band Hello Sailor to play their nemesis song so recently and now Dave and Graham are gone so sudden it seems makes Campbells choice even more poignant
He found himself shipped to Christchurch more by accident than design - his time previously in Australia (when he jumped ship) had been spent as a swagman (see Waltzing Matilda) and a horse breaker, cave cutter and always and advocate of Marxist Socialism.' from Hello Sailor web site
