_"Which do you find more exhilarating, Trevor, pain or pleasure? Personally, I prefer pain."_ *No no no no no...* How hard is this to get? The Cenobites are beyond the two concepts to a point that they are interchangeable. Pain is pleasure, pleasure is pain. To them there is no distinction between these concepts.

For some reason, maybe because everything after 2 forgot, people really don't seem to understand this element of the Hellraiser films. One person on his review of Hellraiser 5 even claimed that they never actually offer any pleasure and clearly have always been a part of Hell.

I'm 30, it's 2021 and I had a large, personal collection of vhs tapes as a kid growing up in the late 90s & early 2000s. The shift to DVD was unsettling at first; sometimes new movies would come out only on DVD and not VHS. Video rentals were *the* thing to do back then. It really forced people to adapt to discs instead of tapes.

Wanna know something funny? Here's the exact plot that was written on the DVD cover: "When the puzzle box is once again solved, the devastating demon, Pinhead and his legion return to unleash Hell on Earth and demolish all who dare oppose them. But standing in his way is Kirsty Cotton - the only person who has defeated Pinhead in the past - and it's up to her to save the world from this ultimate evil!" Definitely doesn't seem like what the narrator showed us. Or maybe he was reviewing the wrong movie.

A lot of direct to dvd films have standard boiler plate style descriptions, usually because the film wasn't finished at the time of writing so that have to make it up.

It doesn't matter if kirsty opens the box because she wasn't the one who wanted to open the box.
@JJewlz420
@JJewlz420 7 лет назад
I agree with you, the idea of Kirsty opening the box was stupid because her of all people would know better not to, but as in the other films as you stated she was the innocense that was caught up in the actions of evil people, but my theory is now that Kirsty is a grown adult and have been subjected to the acts of evils and desires, innocense to her is now a blurred line... my main idea is that it was the desire of getting back at her husband that made her open the box, and the pleasure was her making the deal with pinhead, being able to frame her husband for the murders that she commited and got away with thus killing him in the process.. and to me this theory works pretty well, from goign from a innocent sweet teen, having tasted many different pains and betrayed by the ones that she had once loved her, turned her into this adult that we no longer can establish connecteion with... Kirsty has grown and so hasnt her ideals and believes... its the only way i can justify why the did this to Kirsty.. maybe one day we will get a real return of Kirsty and have her seal the box for good

There are some that are definitely worse story wise when it comes to Hellraiser sequels, but I think that I would hate this one the most out of all of them because of what was done to Kirsty. One of the things I really like about the first two Hellraiser movies is Kirsty, she is a very smart and likable protagonist that I find myself cheering for, this Kirsty has none of that. I don’t think it would have saved the movie but it would have definitely made a lot more sense to have Pinhead acting on his own in tormenting Kirsty’s husband and his lovers as some sort of weird sort of affection towards her and he feels like she belongs with him in one way or another. It at least would have brought back at least some of the more ambiguous nature as well as being demons to some and angels to other being a demon to the husband and lovers as well as some sort of avenging angel towards Kirsty. Also take out the husband giving Kirsty the puzzle box, but it mysteriously appeared at the crash sight and when Kirsty sees it she realizes that Pinhead did this and that is why she looks so physically shaken.

This is not a good idea, but in the scope of this crappy movie I always thought it would make more sense to have Kristie had been reborn as the cenobite after her husband fed her to the box and then this movie is about her punishing him. Maybe she could take over for Pinhead as the main cenobite. Like I said this is a bad idea. I just think it would be better than this.

Here is a way that this could have still worked without Kirsty being the killer. She could have popped up in the end and said something along the lines of, "While opening the box does call them, one thing you didn't know that I do. It's your desire that called them". Then could have her reveal his body. It still makes it so he's the one dead the whole time. The whole Pinhead wants Kirsty thing I think is a "worthy adversary" type of thing. Having her would end the cat and mouse chase game they had. The possible deal intrigued him. I also think the not innocent anymore sadly does work. She's older likely more jaded. I can see Pinhead allowing her to observe her husband's suffering (more mental no physical) until her revealing it in the end like in my scenario. Edit: Forgpt I posed a similar idea before but less detail lol

Hell raiser 1-4 were actual Hellraiser movies the rest were written has thrillers but the studio decided to throw pinhead in it it started with part 5 because the studio was about to lose their rights to the movie Clive Barker eventually became over it and had nothing to do with the movies has well as Doug Bradley soon dropped out due to corny scripts

close but clive barker had pretty much zero input after 2, doug bradley was in every single one of the non-hellraiser movies, he dropped out of hell raiser 9 the only hell raiser film after 4 deliberately made to be a hell raiser because it was an ungodly pile of shite and didn't return to judgement because he wasn't asked, and it was also a repurposed script from the directors failed indiegogo campaign as well as an even worse pile of shite.

that’s a misunderstanding of the “it’s not hands it’s desire “ quote it has to be very rare circumstances when someone doesnt desire to open the box, for example in your idea Kirsty would have a desire to open the box because it would appease her murderous husband, there’s a will and intent there

The ending is well done as Kirsty having killed 5 people to save herself is stuck with the Lament Configuration forever , a reminder of what she has done to escape . Or it is really an escape ? I think Kirsty really did not want to deal with all this bullshit for a third time and was very desperate to get out of it once again . I wasn't bothered by her being a murderer because of it, I am however bothered that we don't get to see the character development of her turning into a killer . The movie has flaws but is still solid .

depends on which continuity you follow cause the scarlet gospels clive barkers continuation doesnt mention that, but frankly the comic and the book have many issues that i prefer to ignore.

@@deusdeaconReviews Hellraiser is a lot like Star Wars, it starts off good then goes down hill after wards.

I think at 13:37 that is another version of the Pear Of Anguish?
@deusdeaconReviews

the pear of anguish opens up like a flower theres none of that here, also the pear of anguish doesn’t and has never worked as an effective device of torture

All this is, is them trying to do a "darker" Jacobs Ladder. But without the thought, like the Tibetan Book of the Dead stuff and all that. But Jacobs ladder left you kind of hopeful in a way(because it's just a good movie). This was crap in my opinion.

Not defending this film of course, but the police think that he shot himself in the head and thats what caused the car to go off the road.

7:07-7:13 Was that a slip of the tongue, or were you _actually_ referring to Pyramid Head from the Silent Hill series? Because, coincidentally, it still makes sense either way.
@deusdeaconReviews
@deusdeaconReviews 7 лет назад
No that was a deliberate reference to the misuse of pyramid heads character, in the films and games.

Even though it's not a "Hellraiser movie", Hellraiser 6 is the best out of the post-Hellraiser 2 movies. It's got some clever little turns in it and is much better than its horrible doppelganger; Hellraiser 5. At least I liked the protagonist in this one. It's far less insulting to the franchise than what comes later or that cyber party one... :::shudders:::
