I ordered this right after Blayne's mini-review. I actually had missed this on the "Coming soon..." list, so thanks to you guys for the heads up. Hellripper is always a ton of fun. His stuff kinda reminds me of Bewitcher, who I love. Thanks for the review, Sarah!
I love how Sarah is always like, "This week I'm reviewing the highly anticipated album from [insert obscure band that only releases music on cassette tape]."
Hellripper is pretty established though for black/thrash, as is Sarah as the vocalist of Smoulder a fantastic band it it's own right. The comment is just to say she has very solid opinions if you aren't into metal on the constant watching level because it's likely she'll give you the best of the underground anyway.
Same! This new album is actually the first for me... somehow they slipped through my radar and the singles they have been releasing are so damn good! Stoked to listen to this album today!
this is up there with Havukruunu as one of my favorite releases this year. Awesome descriptions of what makes blackened speed so much fun. Vampire's Grave reminds me heavily of the iconic bar fight in From Dusk til Dawn. great review!
Early in the video and I need to say this: when I listened to the title track (still need to finish the album, since the track was randomly included in my Discover Weekly by Spotify this week) I instantly thought that if there was a time travel machine and the "second wave" of black metal was born in the 80s, I think it would sound like this! I was instantly in love with this really old school sound, plus to me the contamination between black and speed metal was phenomenal! Well, I will definitely finish the album gadly, since I have a really soft spot for "old school metal"!
Can't believe the first time I see you guys feature VHS on your channel is the artwork for the Lord Rot split. Listen to VHS, give your fellow Canadians some love!
I ordered this LP on Amazon. Was so excited. Got it in the mail, opened it and Amazon sent me A Small Faces Greatest hits record instead. So random. Now I love the Small Faces. Massive Steve Marriot fan. And in fact would say the Small Faces LP is a better record in the greater sense. But how?.... lol. Then I went to return it for to get the record I ordered and it was sold out. So I kept the Faces record lol. Oh well.....thanks Amazon. Second time this has happened. I ordered Dinasour Jr Green Thump LP and they sent me a fucking house music record. That one pissed me off massively.
Great review. Decided to give Hell ripper a second chance because of it. I like it sort... Doesn't quite land for me. But I really admire the idea and ambition behind it. Like I get it but its not for me. I think if I were in a different place or maybe down the road I could get into it more. Still got be going down the rabbit hole and checking out all the bands you mentioned and more. Definitely updated some playlists. thanks.
I listened to this record first time on the bus to work this morning. I felt like i was riding some sort of demon horse chariot made of skulls fire and snakes
Guena loco, aguante hellripper!! compre el primer álbum coagulating darkeness directo a cheryl the witches brew / barbarian wrath antes de que cerraran el sello , una joya de disco compadre
I can see why you would review this over Necrophobic but that doesn’t mean i’m not gonna vote for Necrophobic the next time you guys ask me to vote on what youse missed XD
I'm currently sitting here in one of my two hellripper shirts and have listened through the album today (stopped counting how many times I've listened through it). I really enjoy it, but I have to say that the riffs sound a tad too similair to each other for me. I still absolutely enjoy it, and yes, speedmetal tends to not be too diverse, but still they all follow a too similair pattern for my taste. Still a banger of an album, but that is something that stood out to me.
